What an AB by Davis. Classic. And so tense. Everyone is delivering. Great bunt by panik. And lagares stepping up. And replacements on the way. McNeil. Nimmo. Lowrie. Hopefully stroman is ok
Great bunt by panik
You may not have to. I would not be surprised if they DFA him tomorrow and bring up a rested pitcher. Either that, or give Syndergaard a direct order that he has to go at least seven tomorrow. Can't wait for Nimmo to be back so Altherr can be sent away.

Ehhh to be honest, don’t care enough. See ball, hit ball. But, of course, you would expect a drop in strikeouts when he's hot. His batting average is way higher during the streak. A way higher batting average means, by definition, a way lower "outs average," meaning that he's simply making fewer outs, which would include, you know, strike outs, groundouts, pop outs, etc.
What is stark, what sticks out, however, is that his walks haven't changed. Since you (or others) have decided to say that his hot streak is due to greater selectivity, you have to show your work--that is, use stats that show selectivity--not just stats that show he's hitting better and making fewer outs, and then speculate that it's selectivity.
Nimmo actually left the game in the 5th inning so hopefully no set back.
NM dropping it and enjoying the run!Except it's not two months, is it? The number I heard last night was 35 games. And, setting that aside, precisely where did you get your 2-month rule from anyway, you know the one that says that such a (non-existent here) streak could only come with greater selectivity? You've just assumed your way into your preferred conclusion--abandoning your circular strikeout argument along with way--and also used bad facts.
Along the way, you don't explain why his walks haven't changed, nor do you show any stats related to selectivity. It's a kind of a double dip into fantasy world.
Now, this has become tedious I'll admit. I'd personally love to read a targeted analysis that actually shows that Amed has been more selective--because I'd love that to be true.
But it doesn't seem to be forthcoming.
By the way, Reyes just laced a double . . . and then JD!!!
I didn't abandon the strikout argument. Do I need to put it in every post for it to be still be considered live?Except it's not two months, is it? The number I heard last night was 35 games. Well, I'd recommend abandoning it, since it's an argument that seems surprised that a player is making fewer outs during a hot streak.I didn't abandon the strikout argument. Do I need to put it in every post for it to be still be considered live?
And what were my bad facts again?
I love this TEAM! Just about everybody is contributing. Mickey Manager sounds right when he described the Mets offense as relentless after last night's game.If you don’t love JD Davis, you should.
:cool2:
That last guy was JD Davis, and we very recently heard from him. Were you not listening?Awesome. The last guy who had "tightness" was never heard from again.
July and August, simple concept.Well, I'd recommend abandoning it, since it's an argument that seems surprised that a player is making fewer outs during a hot streak.
And, of course, your 2 months.
Getting no favors from the Red Sox. I expected them to be able to do something at home vs. Philly.
Funny part is, we were just talking about how well Rosario was playing, it was you that came in and said he was not being selective enough. What is stark, what sticks out, however, is that his walks haven't changed. Doesn’t appear any injury. Maybe they feel nimmo is ready to be called up and we can dfa altherrNimmo actually left the game in the 5th inning so hopefully no set back.
Both lineups are loaded from top to bottom. Nats have great starting pitching but you are right, both of those teams have horrible pens. And just like the rest of our team, our BP is actually holding it's own right now and at times, actually good.....One thing to fear: teams we re chasing - Nats and cubs - are legit teams however both have questionable bullpens.

Cabrera is likely a better bat, but the fact that Panik looks like a pretty slick glove makes him a better fit, and if he can lay down perfect bunts in a big spot, love that too. Both lineups are loaded from top to bottom. For those who follow closely...StL/Cubs/Nats/Phils- do any of these teams have an injury to a player like McNeil who could come back soon and be like a late season great pickup? Because our lineup suddenly becomes "sick" when McNeil is back.
BTW- anyone else just like the way that Panik plays ball? He will never be a "threat" but he is just a solid, ball player. Seems to have his head in the game at all times.
Not convinced at this point in his career Cabrera is a better bat other than providing more power and that is not what they are asking Panik to do.Cabrera is likely a better bat, but the fact that Panik looks like a pretty slick glove makes him a better fit, and if he can lay down perfect bunts in a big spot, love that too.
And I don't know about the other teams, but I doubt they have the number of players who are due to return in short order. And aside from McNeil, these are guys who I had written off. Lowry, Nimmo and Cano I figured were all gone for the year. Now Lowry and Nimmo provide nice depth, but Cano could be a little tricky if he comes back and is not hitting, because he will be a down grade in the field.
Well Panik is batting .343 with the Mets. He was batting .235 with SF. So we are seeing Panik playing above his level. Not convinced at this point in his career Cabrera is a better bat other than providing more power and that is not what they are asking Panik to do.
Well they play each other this coming weekend at Wrigley so something has to give there. Not sure who to root for to be honest. I guess Chicago but if they win we have to have a good weekend vs the Braves not to lost ground to them. But then on the other hand we're only 3 games behind the Nats for the top WC spot. So if they should lose and we win...............One thing to fear: teams we re chasing - Nats and cubs - are legit teams however both have questionable bullpens.

Smith is still bringing his energy to the dug out though. People got a big kick out of him rolling out on the scooter when Conforto had his walk off hit. Saw Smith getting in on a Lets Go Mets chant last night too, and in general he is in the dugout mix.You know who would have been fun to watch during this run if he werent injured.D Smith...even when they were losing, he was just a breath of fresh air in the dugout. Alonso is also a blast to watch in the dugout and as a team mate as well.
Those un-defined intangibles that are not seen by stats...
It also put Davis in the lineup every day...Smith is still bringing his energy to the dug out though. People got a big kick out of him rolling out on the scooter when Conforto had his walk off hit. Saw Smith getting in on a Lets Go Mets chant last night too, and in general he is in the dugout mix.
I actually think him getting hurt has a silver lining in that his defense was a serious issue before he went down. Though his bat off the bench would be nice to have right now.
Alonso and McNeil certainly bring a love of life energy to the game. Those guys are workers I'm sure, McNeil for sure has that vibe, and that aspect has to be part of it, but they are not all business types, they seem like a couple goof balls really, and it's just fun. And I think with both guys, you just have the feel that they are Met's, they want to be Met's, this is their team and they know it.Another thought I had when watching these guys tear off the Jersey last night...In the past, I really think many FA's said to themselves..."Met's? Why in the F would I want to play there?" Now, watching these young guys like Davis, Alonso, Conforto, Smith, Rosario, McNeil joined in by the older guys like Frazier Ramos and then the pure business of the Starting pitchers...I can see FA's start to see that this can be a very fun place to play. And with the race and many games at home, I fully expect to start seeing the house packed every game and rocking like it did in the mid-late 80's.
Absolutely. It also put Davis in the lineup every day...
But all those team have to play us, so isn’t easy for them either heheheWe play the Phillies, Cubs, and Nats enough still where the standings day by day only matter so much. This series now is big because we had to take 2 of 3 from a good team and to keep pace but after this next Braves series until mid Sept we'll really know. 3 vs the Cubs, 3 vs the Phillies, 3 vs Washington, 3 vs Phillies, 4 vs Arizona all in the wild card mix. After that we have LA and the Rockies for 3 and Cincy for 3. Nothing easy coming our way except a 4 game set with Marlins the second to last series of the year.
But all those team have to play us, so isn’t easy for them either hehehe
All kidding aside...Nats have 3 starters that can go toe to toe with anyone but we have 5. That is a huge difference. Any 3 game series against us, you will face 3 quality starters.
Stroman has not been good thus far. But he hasn't been terrible either. And he battle's. I fee there is a good run in him. That's my point. The standings with us all playing each other will ultimately show who the best two wild card teams are so even though we're only 2 out that is going to swing wildly the next month.
I'm being hard on Stroman but after 4 starts I'm not too impressed.
