OT: 2019 Mets Season Thread

Agree but there are also the intangibles they bring too. Nimmo, is just a positive force...Lowrey, is just a "professional" baseball player. Even if their bats are a little slow, they can't be worse then we have but they are the type of players that winning teams usually have on them.
Eh, maybe. But the A’s have both won and lost with Lowry—more lost—and the Mets haven’t been tearing it up the last few years with Nimmo.

I’d just leave it at that they are good additions at a crucial time. We need players, not vaguely defined intangibles.

2018 Met's core players do not even come close to the 2019 Met core players. Last year, Nimmo and Conforto were pretty much our entire offense. As for Lowrey, he is not the type of player to carry a team on his back. But he is the type of guy that makes a good team better.

My gut tells me that if he were hitting 7th, he would walk more or be making more outs. Now that he is been moved up, he is protected and pitchers are more afraid to throw in the dirt or out of the strike zone as they do not want to walk him with Alonso, Conforto, Davis coming up behind him. Early in the year, it seemed they always went into the dirt and way out of the strike zone in an effort to get him to swing at them. If they would have lost him to a walk, not as dangerous.
In other words, Rosario is doing the job that Robinson Cano wasnt doing earlier in the year. Correct?

Thankfully Davis is back. He couldn’t last a week, but Altherr is fine for ages? Help me understand.
Altherr is gone when Nimmo returns. Unless of course neither Nimmo nor Lowrie returns by September 1, in which case Altherr survives.

R Davis would likely have been back much sooner had he not been hurt.

I would add that if Carlos Gomez had elected to accept assignment to Syracuse when he was DFA'd, he would possibly have been recalled at some point. But he opted for free agency.

My point is that Altherr is still here because the Mets have no outfielders in their system. None.

Vaguely defined intangibles are what make sports great.
Now, don’t get me wrong, if you suck- they don’t help anyone. Not sure if Nimmo is a front line player or not but Lowrey has certainly proved over the years to be a good player and a professional. “Professional is in its was a vaguely defined intangible “

An easy win against a good team against one of the best SP this year. Indians playing pretty well also. Great way to start the home stand!!!!!!!

Do you mean to tell me the Mets can't find another pitch besides Sewald? No lead is safe with him on the mound even if the game is over.

One down... two to go. Let's get the next win vs the Indians tomorrow night.

Not that it matters, but there is no way that Conforto's Homer was only 388. It cleared the 370 with a whole lot to spare.

My boy from Dutchess County is actually playing some solid ball in replacing Cano. Rosario is as hot as I have seen a player in a long time. JD still on a roll and Matz with a good game. Win tomorrow, crossing fingers, and we are looking better all the time.

Was at game tonight. Beautiful night. Beautiful crowd. Beautiful game. And reinforcements on way hopefully. Good to see rajai Davis promoted. Nimmo continuing rehab now at Syracuse. Lowrie playing games at Port St. Lucie. Hopefully McNeil back for braves series. And loved what i saw from matz tonight and loved the adjustment by conforto as Bieber owner him the first 2 abs. And no blunders from Mickey.

This lineup is good and is only going to get better when McNeil comes back. Except then you have to sit Lagares who has been contributing some at the plate and is of course excellent defensively.

Would love to see following lineup soon hopefully:

Rosario -ss
McNeil - 2b
Alonso - 1b
Conforto - rf
Davis- lf
Ramos-c
Lowrie - 3b
Nimmo - cf

Bench- frazier, rajai Davis, lagares, panik, Nido

Going to try to go to Citi Field Sunday vs the Braves. Might have to go back to my old perch in the 500s hoping that the place will be going apeshit for the Mets. Hopefully ESPN dont switch this to a Sunday night game.

I have seen, however, 2 walks in August.
3 now.

And I wonder if he has not had a change of approach at the plate.

Consider this, in May, he batted .229, struckout 31 times, and had 5 doubles, 2 triples and 4 homers, 7 bb's. .

In July he batted .350, struck out 11 times, had 5 homers 2 triples, 2 homers, 6 bb's.

In August, .390, 12 strike outs, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 1 homer, 3 bb's.

In May he had 25 total hits, 11 of which were extras. In August he has 30 base hits, 7 of which are extras. The strikeouts have seen a big drop too. July and August combined he has 23 strikeouts. He had 31 in may, but also 23 in April, 20 in June.

So is he now trying to just put the ball in play and less trying to hit for power? Did he tighten up the swing perhaps?

Whatever it is, it has been something to watch. He was losing his grip on his position in the field and if he kept hitting like that his spot in the lineup was next, couple months later and he looks like a superstar talent again.

Watching Davis and Rosario- I wonder if watching McNeil all year has changed their approach? Both are hitting mistakes very hard but also just putting everything else in play.
Amazing that Davis may turn out to be BVW best move.

BTW- credit to Chili Davis too. That guy was always a hard out and mentally tough. Seems like our hitters have responded well to him.

Agree on the Chili comment.
