Hoping Jake can pitch one more gem and get the CY . Hoping Pete finds a few more HR's to end the season as HR champ. Ah what could have been this year.

So we finally do the right thing and have Nido catch Thor but we do it when we're pretty much mathematically eliminated. Another thing they screwed the pooch on.

In the heat of a pennant race, they should have let Thor have Nido do his catching. Stupid to upset the apple cart to prove a point. It could have been addressed in the offseason.

Serious question for Mets fans on here. Do you take any pride/enjoyment that this team never gave up.? They looked dead a couple months ago and took it to the last week.
This thread became tough to read because of crazy doom and gloom Mets so called fans. I stopped reading it around August. Can't even remember my last post but did start watching games more the past month.

It was a nice run. Gave the fans something to hope for until football season.

He will be the 2nd unanimous HOF selection.

Typical of your trolling. Look at the numbers. He didn't accomplish as much as he should have, but he was way above average and his defense was much better than in the past. Hitting 35 home runs and driving in 100 runs is not a bust.
Let's not forget all the fannies in the seats. He was a gold mine for Phillies.

Getting eliminated by the team you bailed on who made the playoffs without you is a bust (especially making $330m).

You're just trolliing again -- that is, just posting to get a reaction. Every baseball fan knows that one player does not determine whether a team makes the playoffs. This isn't basketball, where you can give Michael Jordan the ball every time on offense. In baseball, players bat only once every nine at-bats.

Is that true? Did they draw a lot more fans then last year?

Still, even if he did, don't think that will last, not if he puts up solid but not great #'s while the team continues to miss the playoffs.

More Bryce contract bashing.

While 30-100 is a traditionally good stat, do consider that his 33 homers are currently tied for 15th in the league with 3 other NL players.

His 108 RBI's are tied for 8th in the NL.

His 94 runs tied for 18th.

His .873 OPS also good for 18th in the NL.

I mean, that is a really good year, he's a really good player, but that contract? Really good is not going to cut it. That contract should be a for a truly great player. Aside from one injury shortened season, he has never been that.

Edit:I see he hit a homer tonight, so he does rise in some of the rankings, but the point still stands.

Very good points, this is a historic year for power stats, overall, his season is just meh. But I will admit, he did better than Machado and Ohtani (a.k.a., Oh'tank'i).

very good points, but "bust" is still a ridiculous characterization. I know that everybody on a web board exaggerates, but a bust would be if he performed as a below average player, and he was certainly a lot better than that, even if he didn't perform to the expectations that a lot of people had for him.

As a matter of fact, the Phillies have drawn about half a million more fans this year than last. Harper isn't the only reason, but he's a big part of that. https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/PHI/attend.shtml

Ya, and bust is an even less apt description given these stats pretty much define what Bryce is. Those #'s were very predictable.

Though that does point to how dumb a contract it was.

Congratulations to the much maligned Paul Sewald. Got his first career win after 14 losses. He had appeared in 118 games, and had pitched 139 innings, without a win. Both are MLB records.

And the Mets live to fight another day. Their playoff chances (per ESPN) are down to 0.1%, but that's infinitely better than 0.0%. It really is. Do the math.

I don’t know about pride but enjoyment definitely. No one thought we would be playing meaningful games in September.
