OT: 2019 Mets Season Thread

When are mets pitchers ever going to retaliate against teams? I’m sick of mets getting hit all the time. Only mets pitcher in past few years who has balls was hansel Robles of all people.

Welp - not a fan of throwing at folks heads, but I guess you have a new favorite pitcher.

Mets are now in first place in a division where no team seems that strong. The Mets have problems, but so do the other three possible contenders in the division. You Mets fans are too hard on your team -- try rooting instead of constantly finding fault. I watched the games last night and tonight, and the Mets hitters impress me. And both Matz and Wheeler were strong the last two nights.

I didn't think it was a good idea to throw a pitch over Rhys Hoskins' head with a nine-run lead, and two out and nobody on in the ninth. It could actually wake the Phillies up; they've looked lost on this road trip, losing 3 out of 4 to Colorado. Jake Arrieta and Gabe Kapler called them out after Monday night's game, but the Phillies didn't look good tonight. Of course, Zack Wheeler had something to do with that. He kept the ball down and boy was he throwing hard!

I don't like throwing at heads....a shot to the derriere would have been fine to send a message,,,,,plus tomorrow's game may be ugly with Vargas pitching and the Phillies' heads into it as a result...Saw Rhame on tv after the game...good thing Hoskins didn;t charge the mound as Rhame may be the most feeble athlete I have ever seen....

Oddly, now that the Mets have hitting, their pitching has gone to sleep. Thankfully, Matz and Wheeler delivered. Phils may well get revenge tomorrow with Vargas pitching. And I don't think Rhame was throwing at Hoskins, but that is just a guess. Despite my comment above, I don't like when pitchers throw at batters' heads.

I have to say...with as bad as the Met's pitching has been, to be in first place with the least amount of home games and playing only one series to an under .500 team, I'll take it. The key will be to see who in the Nations East will beat up on the bad teams this year.
Wheeler was dealing last night. It's funny, most years, I catch only a few games live on TV and just follow through box scores...This is the first year in a long time that I have watched almost every game. I had not realized that Wheeler may be the hardest thrower on the team.
I think we all know that deGrom and Syndergaard will eventually get back to form but seeing that Matz has really only had the one bad game and his last start was great and Wheeler yesterday...this team could end up really good

I don't think he was throwing at his head. Did he want those pitches inside, I'm sure he did but they seemed to get away from him. Wouldnt make any sense at all to try to hit the guy with another game to go and this one already over.

could be. The home plate umpire warned the pitcher after the first pitch to Hoskins -- the one that went over his head -- but refused to do anything when Hoskins complained about the pitch on which he walked. There had been some inside pitching all game, and remember that Phillies pitchers had twice hit Mets batters the night before. Of course, those HBP's made no sense if intentional because they helped the Mets score a couple of runs when the Phillies desperately needed to shut them down. Jimmy Rollins, in the Phillies announcing booth, cursed after one of those HBPs.

Most of the top of this division seems to be just beating each other up but any of the top 4 could get on a major role and get dangerous. Injuries will also play a big part of the season.
And I LOVE the Met's hitting approach this season. It has been a lot of fun to watch.
McNeil just sprays the field and takes a ton of pitches, has also shown he can turn on a mistake. Cano looks to finally come around and he is another one that is just taking pitches where they come and doesnt try to force it. Ramos- he is a pro. Won't have a ton of power but I will take him all day long. Rosario has all of a sudden become a very professional hitter. Comforto- take it out of any ball park- take walks and also will spray the field when it is called for, Nimmo- needs to get on track but when he gets hot- he is also dangerous. Frazier/Davis- not 100% sure yet but whoever isnt playing adds to the bench in a very good way- Alfonso- love this kid and also will take a pitch where it is pitched and extra bases galoor - even JL is starting to hit. And the bench finally has professionals. Need Lowrey healthy so Rosario has a backup but dont want him taking AB's away from any of the above mentioned.
Need at least 2 guys not named Lugo to get consistent in the pen and for JF to get his control in order.
Will be a crazy lineup if Cespedes comes back for the 2nd half and JL is only on the bench.

There's a certain bull that was close by at 1st base that I have a feeling would have had his back had that happened.

Speaking of that "Bull" how great is it again for our Met's to have a home grown rookie like this again? A guy that everyone is baseball is watching and already fear. The fact that his HR's tend to be line drives to right center is also scary. Not going for the "lift"
Speaking of which- the other day against Atlanta on ESPN- they had Hank and Arod talking about hitting approach and both talking about swinging down rather than lifting - I'm sorry but even if I am a new age 20 y/o coming up, I think I would listen to those guys over any hitting coach out there. And it looks like Chilli is teaching a great approach as well.

Gio to the Brewers for only $2 million and then another $2 million possible with performance bonuses. I think we're going to really regret not making this move with Vargas killing us.
I think the Mets made an offer, although we don't know how strong-ass the offer was. Maybe he just felt more comfortable with the Brewskis, having pitched there last year. C'est la vie.

I’m dreaming but hopefully Keuchel is out there and that’s the big fish to land.

1st or 5th what does it matter if you don't fare well going up against him.
Meh. Does he do well against Robinson Cano, Wilson Ramos, Jeff McNeil, etc? What he did against guys who wore the shirt in the past is irrelevant. Besides, that was when he had a MLB-quality fastball.

That said, he's still better than Vargas. I wish we had signed him.

Reportedly teams (including the Mets?) are waiting until after the June draft to move in on Keuchel, so it won't cost them any draft picks in compensation. We shall see.

Don't forget we're probably losing Wheeler also. He's going to head to FA and got a monster deal if he keeps up his performance from the 2nd half of last year and then last night.

According to Mike Puma of the Post, the Mets were unwilling to make Gio a guaranteed offer. They view him as a marginal upgrade to Vargas at best. Just not that into him. Hopefully saving their pennies for Keuchel.

fMy understanding is that Gonzalez's deal with the Yankees was that he'd get $3 million if he was added to the roster. I also understand from a comment above that the Brewers are going to pay him only $2 million. That isn't much of a vote of confidence in him.

I thought Wheeler and his agent said they are willing to strike a deal at any time. It's been reported the Mets were going to wait until June or so to see if Wheeler, who pitched the second half of the season like an ace, is the real deal. It may cost them, but I think he's going to get a substantial offer from the Mets. It's Thor who may be the odd man out. Besides the Mets still, have some time left before they have to act on Thor. The Mets may even trade him to restock the minors. I would love for the Mets to keep the core 4 together for at least a few more years. It's how Atlanta survive all those years.

I'm just glad the Met silencer at least signed with a team in another division so won't have to see him and his 1.78 career era and 10-1 record at Citi Field as often as when he was with the Nats. There's still that other one Julio Teheran around though. :( Did his number on us once already this year. Yeah different names on the jerseys and all.

Core 4 ? The Mets have a core 4 ?
Who exactly do you consider their "core 4" ? Cespedes, Legares, Wright, and Reyes ?
