OT: 2019 Mets Season Thread

What promised to be great season for both NY teams is starting bad but we are only 20 games in. Relax everyone
I was amazed to hear this on tonight's broadcast: this is only the Mets' 6th home game of the season! If they win tonight, they will be tied for first despite playing fewer home games than anyone else in MLB. That's with deGrom on the IL and Wheeler and Syndergaard off to slow starts. Those are reasons for optimism moving forward.

Question on watching/listening to game out of market. In Arizona currently. Normally, the SNY broadcast works fine over the NBC Sports App, but not working tonight because of blackout restrictions? Also, thought the radio was broadcast on 880 am? Tried listening via internet and game is not on.

If the hitting stays hot, which I think it will, and the pitching come around, which I expect it to given past history, we should be in it until the end. If we get to the playoffs, we have strong pitching and strong hitting with a closer like Diaz, we should be in contention.

I whink we should sign both Gio and Keuchel. We need more pitching depth in the starting lineup. This would also allow us to move Gio, Vargas or Matz (2 of the three) to the bullpen. Suddenly, the bullpen does not look too shabby. We have got to man up and sign Keuchel and Gio. Wilpons need to take the money from Cespedes and Wright's insurance and re-invest in the team.

I don't understand some fans. People crap all over Matz, but other than one awful start against Philadelphia, he has been the best starter in the rotation. With Cano and Rosario both out tonight, did you guys want Jose Reyes back to play SS?
Have you ever seen Guillerme play? He’s as feeble as a mouse in the batters box. Not a major league player. See Tomas Nido. Same dna.

Cespedes may be back in August, and that could be similar to a trade at the deadline.

Needed that W
Don't see anyone praising Matz for another solid performance--congrats to Matz. Bullpen did the job.
Since could not watch, was Bryce Harper arguing his at bat or the pitches of the guy who was at bat when he was ejected. If so, don't recall seeing a player getting ejected for arguing someone else's at bat and coming out of the dugout and going after the ump. Might a suspension be in order?
Bryce is still dooshy.

Cesar Hernandez was at bat. Pitch was up and called a strike. Bryce charged out of the dugout yelling at the ump.

-Way to step up and rebound the way Matz and the Mets did last night. Hope its a start for him.

-Heres hoping the Mets gets 2 for this series tonight.

That really wasn't the Varsity. After the first four hitters the Yankees lineup was pretty much guys who would normally be in AAA.
At least Sanchez is said to be due back Wednesday.
Injuries are part of the game and yes this season what the Yankees are dealing with is over the top. Just wondering how you'd play it if this was the Mets that were injured at this rate instead of the rate they've been in the past 3 years, that has always brought on so many comical quotes from the 3 Amigos?

If the Mets had 13 guys on the DL when they were playing that cream puff schedule, I wouldn't have been so quick to point it out. Besides, I would have pointed it out to Yankees fans if they had gotten a boner over a string of early season wins over weak sisters. I don't feel the same about playing .500 vs. a string of mediocre clubs while half the team is on the DL.
And it wasn't 100 times. You guys are just sooooo sensitive.
Ok- 25 times. Lol though admit it...if roles were reversed, you may agree the injuries were devastating but then you would say how lucky we were that the schedule was so week or we would be 3-19 instead of 11-11
I actually hope the Yanks get healthy, I enjoy when both teams are playing well.
I believe Wilson is now injured for us. Can’t afford to lose any middle RO. Glad Lugo looked good. Need Wheeler to go a strong 7 today.

Yeah found that out myself. You gotta pay for out of market and most streaming audio won't carry the game audio for free either.

Not really Met related but looking at my yahoo fantasy league and when you look at the top 50 players pre-season - only 3 of those top 50 pitchers are still in the top 50 and just 10 of the batters have stayed top 50.
We know that in baseball- outside of injury or age, most players are who their stats say they are from year to year. Goes to show how long of a season it is and how what is happening in first 20 games will not stay the same all year.

Good point

Nice clean win last night exactly what the doctor ordered!! Harper and Kapler can go pound they belong with each other.

Anthony Kay with a monster start last night in Bingo. Good chance we might see him here later in the year if we need a starter. 6 innings 1 hit 0 runs 3 walks 10 k's

I'm not sure why some Mets' fans want Gio. The Yankees' staff is not full of Cy Young candidates, and they passed on him.
Is this because he would be cheaper than Keuchel? Havent followed him but wouldnt Gio be in the Bronx if he was doing well?

Bryce was tossed while he was in the dugout. He had complained about the strike zone calls in his AB (umpire was generous to Matz at the top of the zone, he was getting the borderline calls). Last straw was something Harper said while Cesar was batting. That's when he came out yelling at the ump, kind of like George Brett in the pine tar game except Kapler was coming out of the dugout a little ahead of Harper.

Right now, if you sign Keuchel, you will have to give up your your 2nd highest draft pick in the amateur draft plus 500K in international signing money. If you wait until after the draft, there is no draft pick compensation attached to him. I'm assuming business for him will pickup in a month or so. That's why there's no action on him now even if he's better than Gio.

NBC Sports App working tonight in Arizona. That has been my recollection. No idea why it did not work last night.

They might not be pitching at the level most Mets fans expect, but is there a better hitting pitching staff in baseball? So far, 3 starters have hit HR's and Matz, who hasn't is probably the best hitter of the bunch.
