Not for nothing but something really just seems off with deGrom from a mental aspect. Last year- every single pitch was thrown like a 3-2 count game 7 of the World series with a 1 run lead.
I don't know if negotiations got to him, money got to him or just a f-ing stupid manager. It has to get tiring to keep going out there and know you are not going to score and that your BP will give away any lead you have.
I would say that maybe last year was a fluke but the way he started this year with those first two games- he was even better than he was last year. It doesn't seem like an injury either.
BTW- on another note...MC better find a way to have D Smith in the lineup every single F-ing day. And when batters get 3 hits, you never sit them the next day, much less a 330 lifetime hitter

Interesting post. My thoughts:

1) Money changes people. Not saying it changed deGrom, I have no idea. Just sayin', money changes people.

2) He had the same f-ing stupid manager last year, so I don't think that's it.

3) If by "fluke" you mean "career season", then yes, last year was a fluke. Nobody expected, or should have expected, another 1.7 ERA. We were expecting 2.7. We're getting closer to 3.7.

4) D Smith is not going to play every day, because nobody does. At minimum, he will sit against tough lefties. The question is, will he play five times a week, no matter what? In order for that to happen, Conforto is going to have to become the everyday (sort of) CF. Are we good with that?

In regard to D Smith- everyday was a bit overstatement as it was easier to type then break it all down. But he needs to be considered our starting LF and BU 1B until he shows he just can’t play out there or goes into a batting tailspin.
Give him a couple of days off per week but in most cases, he has to be in LF or giving Alonso a break at 1B
And f-info A - unless injured or so sick he can’t stand up, McNeil has to be playing.

Was not paying close attention, but was wondering who the nasal, awful announcer was, and it is Girardi. He is a worse announcer than a manager.

Nice game so far. Hope the bullpen closes this out.

Would you take Girardi over Callaway? Also, bring Kevin Burkhart back.

The next time the Mets write one of these ridiculous "pay far too much money for somebody just shy of the glue factory" contracts, MLB should strip the franchise from the Wilpons.

If you're referring to the Cano contract, the Mets did not write it. They assumed a portion of it as part of the cost of acquiring Diaz.

That aside, the only way MLB will ever pull a franchise, short of an owner's criminal wrongdoing, is if the owner is in such dire financial straits that it cannot maintain a basic minimum spending level. It will never pull a franchise for spending unwisely. Nor should it.

Who are the Mets fans on here who wanted Todd benched? 4 rbs for Todd today.

Got Vargas and Wheeler going vs the Yankees. Heres hoping for a sweep to get over .500 but 1/2 might best chance.

Actually, the starting pitching has kept the Mets in games. It's been the bullpen that has faulted and cost the Mets any chances of being over. 500 by now. I like the fact the starters are not pulled immediately once they reach 100 pitches. This has made the bullpen more effective. Hopefully, the Mets can go on a run against teams who they will have to battle for the wildcard spot and close the gap.

Braves coming up on this upcoming road trip also. Haven't seen them since very early in the season. They have their own hotshot rookie whose been getting a lot of pub down here. Actually more than one. A position player named Riley and a couple of starting pitchers.

I was a big one for sitting Frazier and getting a kid like Davis in there more. Though, I did always like his defense.
At this point, the guy is carrying the team so not much you can say except it helps trade value. If he keeps playing like this, maybe Todd could be a piece that a playoff team could use.
Regardless, got to give the guy props- he has shut everyone up for now.

You counting the Mets out already?

Only reason I am not yet is because no one else is running away with it but...with that said, we ain’t winning or getting to the WS this year. I would rather free up Todd’s money, get some depth in the minors and use his money elsewhere.
His value is going up right now and if he stays hot but we don’t make huge gains as a team, get the best deal we ever will for him.

If we are going to give Frazier props for shutting us all up after we all had written him off, shouldn't we also give props to the two guys who DID NOT write him off - Callaway and Van Wagenen?

Or is giving due credit to "Mickey Moron" against Board rules?

The real question what they do with him now. He is playing the best he has in a very long time. Do they sit on it or do they make the right move now. I don't know if moving him is the right move and maybe sitting on him is. I just want to see if they do their jobs going forward.

This is a time to move him to a real contender and get back value. He's not part of the go forward plan and you know he will slump again.

Brodie did not sign him. Are you suggesting we credit him for not DFAing him? I think now is the time to trade him as others have suggested. I would like to see if Davis can develop into a player.

Definite credit to Frazier for getting into a major hot streak and Callaway for helping him through it. Not like Davis has done anything to warrant not playing either but there are only so many spots. Davis looking the major hit for BVW right now in what his "smallest" trade in terms of giving up anything.

While I'm happy to see him doing well, it was over a short period and a lot of season left.

You're not getting back much for Frazier, at least not if history is any indicator. The market for power hitting corner players has been thin. What contenders want, and are willing to pay for, is pitching.
