In regard to the Cano/Diaz deal- here now lies the question, would Kimbrel have signed with the Mets? For how long and how much. And if we waited until last month and pieced together a closer until now, would we be any worse than we are now? Maybe even have brought in a guy like Holland on the cheap.
Even if Cano and Diaz finish up strong, Cano will be a reason that a young player will get less playing time and he has to be slotted in at 2B for the next 2 years because of contract. I also wonder if we had known that both Alonso and Smith would have super breakout years at 1B, would we have still made that trade as Cano could have been a fill in at 1B if needed. Bottomline- Cano, even if he starts playing up to a .285 15 80 guy for the next year and half, is going to make us trade a young kid at some point. I would much rather be where we are now with McNeil, Davis, Smith and Alonso playing every day. As for Lowrey- I find it hard to believe he was completely healthy when signed. But I also think he would be a nice player to have on a team but not at the money we signed him for. Surprised we didn't end up with Pollack as he would have fit in perfectly- big money and on the IL. The guy I did want to sign in the OF was Brantley.
Very worried about our starters. Matz is a superstar ACE one day and a POS the next. Noah has become very middle of the road and doesn't even strike out as many as he used to. Don't know what the hell is going on with Wheeler...As for deGrom- he is just very good even in what seems to be a off year. But you can see that he is so fed up with the bullpen and offensive support. We need this guy out there knowing he has a team behind him.
And is there any way to morph Nido and Ramos...Amazing how when we saw Ramos killing us for years, he never seemed this bad behind the plate but he makes Sanchez look like a GG. At least Nido has actually hit a little this year.
