82 year old pitching coach. Have him coach a bunch of 25 year old kids who mostly don’t speak English. Does the vulture even own a smartphone or know what one is. Another Mets disaster.
Who the hell cares about a smartphone. He knew how to pitch & will be able to show the kids how to do it. Great stuff that moved all over the place. Didn't need to throw 100 mph.

I don’t get it. Mets-Cubs tied at 4. McNeill gets a hit. Runner from second is going to score easily, but McNeill gave himself up to ensure a run is scored. Stay at 1st base. Alonso is coming up. If he can hit one out we would be up 7-4. That would make it a much different game. Plays like this makes us a average to below average team.

I may be wrong, but this may be the second time in the last 2-4 games McNeil did the same thing. Love his hustle, but he has to use his head too.

My stuff moves all over the place. But it's really only been as I've gotten older.

He is the INTERIM coach, sparky. Settle down.
at 82, any job would have that classification.
But more power to him for being considered good enough at his age.
The last 3 years Phil has been the Mets minor league assistant pitching coordinator.
Before that was a minor league manager from 2009 to the end of 2015 for the Mets St. Lucie farm club.

The Vulture might be an Old Buzzard, but he's an active one :D

A bit harsh IMO. Easy to see on TV that the runner would score easily. Tougher for the hitter to know that. He can't tell what kind of break the runner got. All the hitter knows is that he cannot allow the go ahead run to be thrown out, without making the defense pay a price for trying.

Is the first base coach supposed to provide guidance in this situation?

I would be ok with it if the pitcher was coming up next but not with the middle of the lineup and one of the hottest hitters in baseball hitting next. He knew he hit the ball softly between 2nd base and 1st base. He also knew that the runner is a fast runner. Not buying the excuse. These are some of the small things that separate a good team from average team.

Oh, when the Yankees lose in the first round of the Playoffs. Got it.
Now you've done it. All readers of this board are now gonna go bet all they own on the Yankees losing in the first round of the playoffs.
Because your crystal ball says so.:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Not a single post after a dominating and glorious win against the NL Central first place Cubs?

Oh, I forgot, we can only be happy when they are over 0.500.

Notice the offensive production when Cano was out of the lineup today and not in the 3 slot?

Lol it's a beautiful Saturday no one is rushing to post.

Why does Alonso bat second? I assume Callaway's been asked that somewhere along the line, but I don't know his response.

Can anyone help here? (COMMENT: A response such as "Because Mickey is a moron" is not helpful.)

2nd is the new 3rd. Most teams have started putting their best hitter in the 2 slot. Figure it make equal 30+ more ABs over a season

I was wondering the same thing, but why mess with success?
Tied Strawberry's Met rookie home run record today.

And Davis figured in the production as expected. Notice who the only starter without a hit was?

IDK, but Ramos and Rosario have picked it up as of late. So has Frazier.
JL was the only hitless one. And yes, Rosario, Ramos, Frazier have picked it up big time. And even if they go a game or two without a hit, they shrug it off and get a big clutch hit the next day. Conforto, McNeil, Alonso have been money this year.
We really could be on the edge of being a very good tram for years but we are the Mets...

Right- the Mets will trade Alonso, McNeil and Rosario for Jay Bruce. [roll]

And I can't believe they were shopping McNeil, Alonso and Conforto around this past off season...oh boy could you imagine...
I wouldn't make too much of that. IMO there are very few "untouchables" in any sport - guys who you don't even talk about trading, no matter what the return. Going into this season, neither McNeil nor Alonso had accomplished enough to be considered untouchable. Conforto still hasn't.

GM's talk all the time. In the overwhelming majority of cases, nothing comes of it.

We have enough issues on this board, and rightly so, about trades that WERE made. No need to concern ourselves with trades that WEREN'T!
