Gary Cohen letting Mickey Mouse have it on the air. I know its not over but this could have been a big win. 3 out of 4 on the road to a top opponent before heading to face the struggling Phillies.

I know it's easy to blast Callaway for his frequently questionable decision making, but the reality is that the Mets don't have a complete pitching staff. It's got to be challenging deciding which of your shitty bullpen guys to put into the game.

Did not see game. What didn't Gary like?

Mickey verbally berating reporters now and Vargas trying to figure out one. Losers both of them.

Strongly questioned leaving Lugo in to 42 pitches when he was clearly laboring. Saying that it seemed like the ideal situation for a 4 or 5 out save. Questioned having no lefty in the bullpen when Rizzo was coming up batting .207 against lefties and .295 vs. righties. My general view is (and not just basing it on today) is that Cohen is not a big Mickey fan.

Why does Juan Lagares play? The guy can’t hit. Play Gomez

The no lefty issue is on BVW, not Mickey.

Wonder if any negative feedback arises from clubhouse brouhaha after game pertaining to Calloway

Can't stand Cohen but he was right on this one. Lugo was leaking oil after one inning and he put him back in. Gsellman had one more day's rest and was ready to go. Callaway has to go.

It may just be me but why would an everyday player like McNeil who is less then halfway through the season and only about 100 games into his career need breathers about once a ****ing week?
And I can’t get on MC too much about Lugo, you get to have him pitch once every 3 games at best and everyone else just plain sucks.
Another question, 9th inning against a righty, why didn’t McNeil bat for Gomez?

So the Mets are now challenging sports writers to fights ? Try that with Meredith Marakovits.
The Good Ship Amazins seems to be taking on a lot of water.

Difference is that Billy Martin gets his ass kicked by the reporter.....I love the comic relief from the organization that had a patent on it for about 20 years

Callaway called Newsday reporter Tim Healey "motherf---er" multiple times and told him to leave the clubhouse, while Vargas needed to be restrained by teammates as he defended Callaway, according to the New York Daily News' Deesha Thosar.
Following Callaway's postgame interview, the Mets manager, according to the Bergen Record's Justin Toscano, took exception when Healey walked by him and said, "See you tomorrow, Mickey," to which Callaway allegedly responded, "Don't be a smarta--."

Later, Callaway, according to Yahoo! Sports' Matt Ehalt, said, "Get the f--- out of here. We don't need that bulls---."
Nearby, Vargas was staring down Healey, according to Ehalt, and then said, "I'll knock you the f--- out, bro."
No punches were thrown. Both Noah Syndergaard and Carlos Gomez restrained Vargas, according to Ehalt.
The Mets issued a statement Sunday night acknowledging the incident.
"The Mets sincerely regret the incident that took place with one of our beat writers following today's game in the clubhouse," the team said. "We do not condone this type of behavior from any employee. The organization has reached out and apologized to this reporter and will have further discussions internally with all involved parties."

Go Vargas!! Fiyahh!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting comments under the SNY blog story I just posted:

A manager is often as good as the players he's given. This is a seriously flawed team. The bench is thin and the bullpen is a disaster. You can't play the same guys everyday when there are so few days off, so you have to sit guys. As a manager, getting this team through the last 3 innings is a nightmare. There is absolutely no one in that pen that he trusts 100%. That's on upper management that has cobbled together another lousy team. The frustration level is boiling over and Mickey is probably going to get canned. At this point he's probably wishing it happens. Management will do nothing to upgrade the roster if it's going to cost them money. They will never win as long as that's the way things are done.

---That is all true. Also a manager's job is to spot if a pitcher is struggling then you make a change - no matter what kind of preconceived plan there was. Lugo didn't have it, self admitted as such, Mickey says he's good for 45-50 pitches. Well not if those pitches are missing.

Not really a Mickey fan but everyone here would be licking Wally Backman if he did this. Justifying this by saying "Wally is a sparkplug."

Maybe THIS wakes the Mets TF up!!!!!

Reading the comments under the blog post, seems the Mets beat reporters have a fair share of a-holes, and the one in question is a pretty big a-hole.
Don't know what is proper decorum here in dealing with an a-hole reporter for MLB. Sometimes going off on a guy out of his lane puts him in his place. Bad sign that Mets management did not have Mickey's back.
Did not know Vargas had that kind of fire in him. But then again, he went ape shit on the third base umpire yesterday when it was clear the Cubs batter swung and missed pitch.

Yeah...it's the fake media.
A lot of people are saying Joe Girardi will be managing the Amazins soon.

It does seem that the Met's beat reporters can be dicks but this team deserves every shot it gets. MC continues to just make head scratching moves. The Lugo thing was the most glaring but for the life of me I still can't grasp that for a critical game with your Ace that gets no run support, you decide that both Conforto and McNeil need a rest. Top it off that you already have weakened your lineup because we need Nido out there instead of Ramos for deGrom. And then in the 9th with a righty pitching, you can't find a way to get the best hitter(lefty) up to bat and keep a righty no hit OF instead. Did he think Gomez gave him a better shot to get on than McNeil?
And yeah- BP is on BVW, it comes down to if a starter leaves in the 6th or earlier, he better have a 3-4 run lead and if he pitches into the 7-8th, he better have at least a 2 run lead.
As for the bench- not sure how weak it is. Most nights it is Davis(good hitter) Smith (good hitter) Hech (can hit and good def replacement) Gomez/JL(neither hit but great def replacements) and Nido It could be a lot worse.

Last night was as big of a train wreck as you could see. Sometimes I feel bad for you guys.....sometimes! :)

I'd like to hear both sides of the story before I have an opinion as to who is right or wrong. All I've heard is other beat reporters backing up their guy. Haven't heard yet what was said to Vargas.

If I read it right, Vargas was stepping up for what was said to MC. Nothing said to him directly

Is Tebow done soon?
https://www.app.com/story/sports/ba...nning-out-slumping-tim-tebow-mets/1526664001/

Fast forward to present day, and Tebow is one of the least productive hitters at the Triple-A level, throwing a wet blanket on his baseball aspirations.

Through 56 games, Tebow is hitting just .147 with just eight extra base hits. His month-to-month numbers don’t suggest any improvement is coming. A slash line of .162/,269/.250 in May was not much better than the .149/.219.194 slash line he produced in April. His numbers in June (.122/.182/.146) are even worse.

See ya tomorrow leads to that type of aggression? Why I'm glad im no longer working in sports media, you are truly a bitch to the coaches/players. No class on the Mets part if it went down like this.
Except the Mets organization has already apologized.
Do you always attribute the behavior of one person to the entire organization?

While Callaway should not have lost it, he is dealing with a tense situation. The roster, especially the bullpen, has several flaws. He worsened the situation by stretching a flailing Seth Lugo beyond his usual pitch count.

Why Vargas jumped in to defend him is a mystery.

Only hearing one side. Would like to hear both sides before forming an opinion. Vargas didn’t even play yesterday so curious what was said to him.

Callaway sounds like a dead man walking. The GM will be meeting him in Philly today? Things could happen quickly if Mets have done their homework.

We have heard from both sides. The Mets have issued a formal statement on the matter.
