If the season was played by Little League rules we would easily be in first place.

At least Callaway's managerial instincts were correct. He double switched Alonso out the game, figuring that extra innings would not be a consideration.

Diaz makes me wish for Doug Sisk or Armando Benitez. Total train wreck. He might be able to pitch in Seattle but he can’t pitch here. He’s a fragile head case and he’s done.

Imagine how many games we would have lost if BVW was not coaching from home[sick]

You must be too young to remember trading young Nolan Ryan for an over-the-hill Jim Fregosi.
Trading two top prospectsand a serviceable hitter for an over the hill, PEDed, BVW client Robinson Cano and an overrated closer who was a one year wonder is up there with Nolan Ryan. Its definitely worse than:
- Zambrano/Kazmir
- Bordick/Mora
- Samuel/Dykstra (even if Dykstra was a scumbag)

Lets take back half of the 21 games that the Mets Bullpen have blown this year. They would be 47-35, 1 game behind the Braves.

I'm actually going to defend that trade, kinda sorta. Mets had an abundance of young pitching and were dealing from excess. Ryan had plateaued as a prospect. No guarantee he would have made it big as a Met. Maybe he needed the change of scenery.

That trade was not a disaster because of what Ryan went on to do. It was a disaster because of what Fregosi failed to do.

I’d take a team of scumbags as long as they are winners. We don’t need to league the league in nice guys

I've never understood the Samuel/Dykstra trade. Did the Mets think that Samuel was an outfielder? He had played in the infield his entire career. He was also declining when the Mets got him.

Thats why that 86 team ONLY won 1 World Series, not the 2, 3 that group shouldve won.

Yes, but it doesn't say much for the Mets much-vaunted pitching coaches that they couldn't straighten Ryan out. And a lot of baseball people thought that Fregosi was through -- there's no excuse for trading for him a prospect who could look like Sandy Koufax did before Koufax figured out how to throw strikes.

We won’t make .500 with this team
Again I’d gladly take a World Series could care less about “character guys”

Diaz does not seem like a “scumbag”. Just totally not in touch with reality. I was ready to punch him thru the TV with how he answered his post game questions.

Actually agree with you about Diaz. But when Jeffy is oroving Einstein's theory on Insanity correct every year and when BVW is treating this as a Draft Kings board with his former clients, NOTHING is going to change... esp with Jeffy in charge.

Either Diaz is mentally weak and can’t handle it in New York and or he’s hurt as he rarely tries to over power hitters now. Regardless he sucks and Brodie should man up about this disaster of a trade. Also fire Calloway. The issue with relievers is they have a short life. Say 2-3 years. Seattle must have saw or known something about Diaz

And I remember when there was talk about Kimbrel, people were concerned about whether Kimbrel would be fine pitching in the 8th inning. Lol. Kimbrel was always a fantasy regardless though he ll probably be a disaster as well with cubs. Phil

My fault. Saw the nm on the blown leads post... Sorry. Forget it.
I took back what I was going to write because I did not want to do the research. Was going to say we would be in first because I believe we blew games against the Braves

Lemeiheu >>> Lowrie
Ottavino >>> Familia
Adam Jones >>> Broxton

Kimbrel >>> Cano/Diaz, which was probably the most unnecessary trade in Mets history.

I could be wrong but Boomer did say yesterday the Mets blew 19 games this year (well before last night and this morning). Wrong or not, even if they blew 15 before July is an amazing stat, let alone 21.

Or am I clairvoyant? :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Either way, hes been not good this year and this was a moment for him to reestablish himself as a big time reliever, and instead he reinforced the notion that he is not.
He showed his colors vs StL and in LA. That was it for me.

We have three players who deserve to be on the All Star team ( won’t happen as every team gets at least 1 player)

Alonso, McNeil and deGrom

What other starter would start for another team?

Conforto would start on a few teams.
Certainly neither of our center fielders
Cano? Would not start on my daughter’s softball team
Frazier. Nope
Ramos? Maybe AL team as a DH. Big maybe
Rosario? Maybe on a few teams.

Bench and Bullpen are the worst in baseball

And the bigger question(s)
Is there a worse Manager than Mickey?
GM than BVW?
Owners than Wilpons?

You willing to take over for BVW? You can't be any worse.
