OT: 2019 Mets Season Thread

Time for me to turn this one off. Now all of sudden they can't hit. If the Mets bought in one of their receivers who had a era over 7 you'd best believe he wouldn't make it through an inning without getting touched up for a run or runs. I think they're just demoralized from yet another blown game by the bullpen. This one won't have a happy ending either. If they happen to surprise me then I'll watch the highlights online tomorrow.

I know this is hushed upon here but THIS is the guy the Mets gave up Top 2 prospects for? AND for five years of Cano???

Oh yeah, thanks Jay Bruce lol.
I never liked bringing Cano in the dude is 36 and has a huge contract, but can someone explain how Diaz is this bad?

This bad, what? He pitched his requisite one inning with 0 runs and 2Ks.

The Mets knew what they were getting. He did not pitch more than one inning in any appearance last year:
http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamelog/_/id/35394/year/2018

That's pretty standard for a closer:
http://www.espn.com/mlb/player/gamelog/_/id/30442/aroldis-chapman

Diaz had 4 blown saves last year. 2 were early in the season.

He has 2 so far this year. And he has had 2 bad outings- one against LA and one against St. Louis.

I don't think this team is heartless or gutless. They just have an awful bullpen.

Once they lose the lead, the entire team stops playing in unison. They are heartless and gutless. Trade them all excepts for deGrom, Alonso, McNeill, D. Smith and possibly Conforto

4 losses and a 3.64 era. Plus the limitations. "this bad" may have been over stating it, but I thought this guy was a premier reliever.

He has been infected by the rest of the bullpen?
Seriously, the whole pitching staff has not been up to par. deGrom, while better as of late is way off from last year's phenomenal performance. Noah is way off. Wheeler and Matz are doing very poorly. Vargas is the only bright spot, perhaps along with Lugo, who has been spotty.
So is it on Diaz? That's hard to say. Maybe Regan will get it straightened out.

I am a bit surprised that no one has brought up the key play of the game - the Nido passed ball on what should have been an inning-ending K. (Yeah, I know it hit the dirt and thus was technically a wild pitch. But Nido HAS to block that ball.)

I can say with confidence that if Ramos had missed that pitch, there would be at least three posts on the topic.

The Phillies' color guy,a former MLcatcher, was all over Nido about his technique. You'll notice that Nido had one knee on the ground and the other knee in a squat, and that means the ball goes off the chest protector at an angle. Give credit to Kingery for hustling on the play. By contrast, Cano won't run out a ground ball. The Phillies are not, IMHO, that good a team, but the Mets can make them look like the 1927 Yankees. I feel bad for you guys because the Mets do have some promising young players: Smith has homered in all three games against the Phillies (which no doubt is why he was pulled in a double switch!)

Good observations, except I'm not giving Kingery credit for hustling. Nido botched that ball so badly Kingery could have walked to first.

Dang I didn't realize Vargas had only thrown 77 pitches.

You know your bullpen is awful, why pull your starter in the 6th inning when he has given up one run and has thrown that few pitches? Because of one deep out?

At this point- don't care if you think it is MC's fault or not but the Met's have to make a statement. BVW made the infamous "Come get us" pre season- They got us...So, in the GM's mind, he did a great job putting this team together. The blame has to go somewhere.
Right now, this organization is the joke of baseball. It is obvious, you have an ex agent making lineups and in game managerial calls. This is not even a lifelong baseball guy who has been around a dugout and on the field all of his life. He is a fantasy league player with real real players.
Let's be honest...Halfway point and with our staters and supposedly one of the best closers in MLB we had going in, if someone told me the following
We found a ROY who is going to shatter every single Met power record
We will have a 2nd year player hitting a clutch .350
Catcher would hit 15 HR 80 RBI
SS who would hit 15 HR 80 RBI
OF who will hit 30-35 HR
3B who we had on the trash heap would be clutch and on pace for 20+ HR
One backup who would be hitting a clutch .330 and on pace for 15-20 HR in a limited role
Another backup on pace for .280 and 15-20 HR
The 5th starter who we all gave up on is pitching like a number 2 or 3 starter.

I would have said that BVW was right "Come get us" So- WHO THE FLAMING FVK has to go? And you know it won't be BVW or the Wilpons

Meanwhile Jared Kelenic is ranked #25 in either ESPN or MLB's top 100 ranking of prospects which is about 15 slots higher than the first Met prospect Gimenez. Season has been a disaster from a distance. I guess its a good thing I rarely watch baseball games anymore.

It was costly, yet I think Ramos has been worse defensively for the season

A ray of good news did shine through for the Mets yesterday, in that they signed Matt Allen, a 3rd round pick who was thought to be first round talent, but slipped because it was believed he was going the college route.

Could this be an instance where BVW's agent charm was able to woo a player into signing?

You're a day late. I posted this 24 hours ago.

Jeopardy questions. When you suck so bad that the pitcher is the only thing preventing you from being no-hit. When you're on the verge of being swept by a team that had lost 7 straight games. When you're much closer to last place than first. Things that could get your manager canned for $500 Alex.

I have hung in there all year ( long suffering fan).

Cardiologist wants me to reduce stress. Can’t watch any longer

Like I was saying in regards to Diaz.

Ultra dissapointing.
