OT: 2022 World Cup Thread

I mean….no need to give up on USA yet! Likely gonna be a “goal differential” situation between us a Wales.
I think Iran can beat both Wales and the US, if they play at their best. They are better than they showed against England. I also think we are better than we showed agaisnt Wales, whom I do not think are very good.

At this point, and until I see how we do Friday, I think it’s 50/50 that we advance. I think it’ll be tough unless we can play with a lot more confidence than we demonstrated on Monday. If we can play loose and aggressive, then we have a good chance.

The Friday after Thanksgiving vs. 2PM on a work day?

EASILY
Work schmerck. This is soccer. People should quit their jobs so they can watch. Companies should install TVs all throughout their facilities and give employees time off during the games.

Yeah. People are waaay too dismissive of Iran.

I thought our “confidence” was just fine. That has nothing to do with our head coach being a moron and neither making the proper subs nor adjusting in the 2nd half.

You should Tweet Elon Musk and let him know.
He's too busy firing everybody to take my tweets. Or to notice that all 3.5 remaining twitter employees are watching the game while getting drunk at the office he's forcing them to "work" 20 hours days.

No worries, though. He hired a famous hacker to fix twitter search. Woo hoo! 🤣

We'll have to agree to disagree. I saw ample evidence of a pronounced lack of confidence in most of the players for the entire game. Even in the first half a lot of players were tentative and cautious until we reached Wales final third. And that was when Wales was sitting back and defending their own half, not attacking except on some weak counters. In the second half, we went into a fearful shell and our whole team kept finding itself pinned back from the pressure.

I've seen this US team play loose and aggressive against much better teams than Wales. That was missing on Monday.

I saw no evidence of the head coach being a moron at all. I felt GB should've started subbing 5 minutes earlier than he did or so. But ultimately I don't think it would've made much difference to the outcome. The way the players performed on the field left us lucky to get out with a draw.

Canada is holding its own so far against Belgium.

If anything I’d say they look better currently.

Huge mistake by DeBruyne. Had a teammate wide open on his right, forced pass to the left. Got nothing of it.

Oh man so typical in sports, control the game but can’t score. The other side gets their shot and they score.

Canada came to play.

This is the direct attacking soccer I wish the US would play.
I was thinking about that and wondering if the US shouldn’t play this kind of style. If you have the athleticism but not as much touch and finesse it doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

The US did, at times in the qualifiers, play a very aggressive, attacking style. They have the technical skill to do so. But they are inconsistent with it. No idea why.

For me the US needs to play “Patton Soccer”

Hi energy. Always forward and direct.

That is a national style I can get behind and it fits our mentality.

Lol, I wasn’t giving up on the US. I meant in regards to Germany and not getting out of the group again possibly.

I’ll be watching Friday alongside all the CFB games. I’m sure a lot of people will be. I read the US/Wales game had 8.3M viewers. I figure the England game should beat that.

It'll also be 7pm Friday night in England.
I would imagine the entire country will be out and watching.

If you think that GB didn’t **** up coaching the other day then you’re one of the only people in the world, including most of the experts, who feel that way. Even Alexi, Carli and Clint Dempsey were absolutely stunned at the fact that Gio wasn’t put in the game on Monday. He did absolutely nothing to change the flow of the game in the second half.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s your opinion, but I can’t even come close to agreeing with it.

Belgian GK hasn’t had to do too much but when called upon he’s come through. Think the save on the header was better than the PK. I’m not sure the PK was placed all that well but the header looked like it was.

You said he was a moron. Show me where any of the people you mentioned said he was a moron.

What are “experts“ saying GB did so wrong besides what I already said, and said in the midst of the match, about being late with the subs?

Oh, and regarding Reyna, did any of the experts know, factually, why GB didn’t play him? Because without knowing that, I’m not sure how the experts could know if it was wise or not. I suspect we’ll learn more about Reyna’s post-injury health and fitness Friday.
