OT: 2023 NJ HS Football Season

Shabazz has kids from like 10 towns and 4 states.
Not surprised. I always laugh at the people that tell me public schools don't recruit. It's always "my nephew moved in with me from XYZ - it just happens he's good".

West orange, Irvington, union city, Clifton etc but these kids don’t ever move to the town. They just go to the school and nobody blinks an eye
Yup. Not nearly as common in north jersey as it is in south jersey. SJ is the wild west.

2 of my buddies coach down there and we were at a bbq 3-4 weeks ago before they opened camp and they were talking about their new transfers. They get them fake addresses haha, its nuts.

NJ football is overrated. The top ranked kids hit rate is extremely low compared with other states.

Also, the quality of coaching in NJ is lesser than that of other states.

You can blame the teachers union for the Sub Cert requirement to coach in Public Schools. I’ve seen teachers do a piss poor job coach high school and even middle school sports only so that they can get that $8K stipend (JCBOE Middle School Stipend). They only got the jobs because they’re teachers while non instructionals like custodians, security, and others, who already passed background checks to work for the board, we’re more qualified to coach those teams but legally cant.

It won’t change between that and the usual politics and favoritism at most districts.

@tico brown great game. Whata comeback. Down 34-7 and then 40-26 with 9 mins left.

Heartbreak for Shabazz. It’s a young team who was coached by some of the worst coaches the last four years. New HC Naz Oliver has done a great job in turning that program around. They score 40 in their loss last night as they only scored 64 in all of their losses last season. So they’re headed in the right direction.

So does Haddonfield. They been getting kids from all over Camden County, esp Cherry Hill, for decades but no one bats an eye.

I agree. QB play is seriously lacking. Good defensive talent.

Seems like a few steps down overall from years past.

Pretty good NJ matchup right now down in Ocean City BATTLE AT THE BEACH: Union vs Rancocas Valley.

State champion Chaminade (FL) just beat snake bitten St. Francis (MD). Bergen Catholic takes on Chaminade in a few weeks. That should be a doozie.

South jersey is the wild west.

Anything short of winning it all for shabazz this year will be a failure. Theyve loaded up with talent and size and are a group 1. No group 1 has the size and talent they have.

St Peter’s Prep vs Creekside HS (Ga) which may answer some questions on Jersey Football vs other states.

St John Bosco prevailed over Aquinas 20-7..Game did not live up to hype. Bosco QB had good numbers, mostly YAC, but to me he seemed a cut below recent SJB QBs. Aquihas QB was nothing special today. Worst thing about the game was the incredible number of penalties called. Shocking for teams of this quality. Still a lot of P5 talent on display.

Next up IMG.

Wondering why FloFootball YouTube channel cut off the St Peter’s/ Creekside game in the third quarter? Pretty damm good game.

Damm shame…

Can’t have anything. Hope it wasn’t because the NFHS Network idiots had anything to do with this.
