OT: 2023 NJ HS Football Season

Great comeback win by Paramus Catholic to defeat Cleveland Heights 43-41. Onside kick recovery did it.Jersey needed that.

@tico brown watched this, this morning. NH is one of the most well coached teams in the state. Love a team that runs vertical choice.

Yes, they remind me of Haddonfield in the 2010s with how they play the game with precision and always seemed to be two steps ahead of the other team. NH is one of the better public school programs today.

Here’s a game that probably won’t mean much state wide (don’t think they’ll be beating those 295 schools anytime soon: Penns Grove, Salem, Paulsboro, Woodbury, etc).

But two small schools from South Jersey going at it in Ocean City: Collingswood HS vs Maple Shade.

Collingswood up 34-0 at the half. Going to be a running clock in the second half. This what happens when small and outmanned schools try to run the same spread offenses that Bergen, Bosco, TRN, Irvington, and all the other power schools with 150 pound Center and 180 pound guards going both ways. Gotta figure out a way to compensate your weaknesses instead of running the same thing all the big schools run.

That said, Collingswood backs and recievers looking pretty good. Would like to see them perform like this vs the those 295 schools, which lucky for them are not in their 2023 schedule.

Who’s the maple shade qb? He looks really good. If he’s an underclass man , we should take a look

Better Game 2 in todays BATTLE AT THE BEACH with Matawan HS vs Cedar Creek HS, two of the better programs the last few years down the shore.

Just Sayin (lol) but did anyone see the Carlsbad (CA) QB in action. This kid has the goods. I think he’s the top rated high school QB in the country.

@tico brown who are the best group 2’s in SJ this year. Assume Haddonfield probably top 4 along with Rumson. I got Westwood winning group 2 in North Jersey. Just watched their opener. They scored 3 TD’s on 2 offensive plays haha (1 punt block).

Always keep an eye on Haddonfield. They’re always in the playoffs and have done well. West Deptford is the same as HF but hasn’t been as successful. RFH is a great program who competes in a big school schedule. Dark horses might be Haddon Heights and Oakcrest.

Up north you have Westwood and of course Caldwell, who always win every year. Dark horse up here may be Hanover Park, who scores like 45-50 a game.

Caldwell was never really a good football program until the past 2 years. Came out of nowhere.

New coach? IIRC Glen Rock used to have a solid Group 2 program. What happened?
Coach Romano is a great coach. Long time assistant who took over in 2022. But they were also good in 2021 when he was the 2nd man in charge.

They changed up their whole scheme. Scheme means alot these days in modern football.

My alma matter West Essex has so much talent but they run an offense from 1970 and lose to any team with a halfway decent coach. When west essex changes coaches and brings in a legit coach (who knows when that’ll happen), theyll be a group 3 perennial power. Theyre winning 7-10 games a year in spite of how poorly coached they are on offense. Theyve made the playoffs every year since 2001.

I grew up one town over. I follow them pretty close. They have traditionally been a pretty average program. Past 2 years came out of nowhere. I think theyre in good shape now though. Very good staff.

Tried to give a program too much props I guess. But whatever they’ve been doing last few years definitely is working.

Coach Delano easily a top 10 coach in NJ imo. Hes a sharp guy. I watch all their game replays on youtube. Channel is “haddonfield athletics”
Thanks - didn't know about the channel. Interesting there are no bleachers on the visitors side but then I was there A LONG time ago.

A lot of schools with stands on only one side. But Haddonfield is a nice place to play/ watch a game. Unlike most schools down there that’s wide open, Haddonfield’s field is hidden away behind the school. But once you get inside, it is a nice field.

Some pretty good Week One games being streamed on the Morris Sussex Sports YouTube page. Most of the games are done a lot better than some companies who charges money for you to watch online.

Was just about to say this. Game of the week imo will be mount olive vs randolph.

Other north jersey games that should be good

Don Bosco vs Erasmus Hall
Bishop McDevitt vs Depaul
Northern Highlands vs Wayne Valley (NH will roll but I love watching them, so so well coached)
St peters vs st joes prep (pa)

St Peter's is way down this year.

@tico brown not big name programs but this was a fun watch. Good game that came down to the wire. More 12 personnel than im a fan of (im a spread em and shred em guy) but nonetheless good game.

They've had sucess going back to the 90's. Typically one of the better small school programs in Essex County.
