Less than 2 days in and I'm finding them to be a tad bit on the rude/unsportsmanlike side. Cheering hard for Poland in Beach Volleyball against the U.S.A. is wonderful (there is a decent # of Polish people/people with Polish roots in Brazil) but chanting "zika" when our women are serving?? WTF (Hope Solo deserves brought the chant on herself, no doubt, however these women didn't and it got louder and louder as the match went on...)???

This is NOT just about the U.S.A.. They were also booing when the Russian women were serving against the home team earlier today. Booing? Really? (* as I mention below they were also booing points scored by an Italian fencer, on a Brazilian, in the foil earlier today).

This is The Olympics, for crying out loud, and you're a nation of people that prides itself on being as fun as any ethnicity on Earth, so what gives? Show a little class, Brazil, thank you!

:cool2:

They definitely spend too much time in the sun and it affects them in a negative way, Big time. Still time to reverse this situation.

If the women's Soccer final comes down to USA vs Brazil, the ugliness will become even more extreme.

Hope Solo did herself, her team, and her country no favor with her series of tasteless tweets about the Zika threat in Brazil. But 2 wrongs do not make a right.

A lot of countries really hate the US.

I don't think people realized how much some people hate us.

They're booing teams/athletes from other nations as well. They were actually booing during a fencing match when the opponent (I forget where he was from...) was scoring. They just appear to be incredibly poor sports.

"South of the border" lol...assume that not a phrase you use while conducting business.

I haven't heard any booing outside of the US Women's Soccer match. Not saying it's not happening just that this might be a bit overstated.

They hate 'cause they ain't us.
There's a fair amount of truth to that.

That's a real shame if true. Usually the host's fans behave pretty well.

How do you know all the people that are booing actually are brazillians ? Lots of people from different nations attend these events . It's an international competition ! You know what happens when you assume .

It's happening specifically in events featuring Brazilians while the other team/Olympian is scoring/serving/etc. not too difficult to figure out. Also, it's not just isolated incidents in those events.

BTW - I've got Brazilians in my family, and love them all, just pointing out something that has surprised me a bit.

Well unless Canada traveled in droves to see Men's volleyball than somebody sure as hell is booing the USA team and cheering for Canada. You do know volleyball is huge in Brazil right. I have a sneaky suspicion it's Brazilian natives booing us.

Maybe they consider the United States their rival in volleyball.

For the past 15 years, I have traveled to Brazil every 90 days for at least 10 days, resided in SP for one year, and speak Portuguese fairly fluent....if there is one country in the entire Western Hemisphere that looks forward and is influenced by American Culture is Brazil. The dream for every Brazilian is to gain that dual US Brazilian citizenship. US influence is so strong that at times there is pushback and (and unfortunately backlash to protect its culture-particularly its language-US English is eating away Portuguese particularly in the business, tech and media sector. Of course there is going to sports fans that take it too far notwithstanding who the opponent is.....Brazilian do not perceive aqual except anyone in Latin America as their equal except the US.

The bottom line, you may hear jeers from the crowd but I assure you they are far from being representative of mainstream Brazilian,

Has very little to do with this thread Roman but thanks. The thing is, as I've already mentioned, this IS NOT just against competition from the USA nor is it random during the events I have mentioned. It has been every point, or serve, and is quite audible as well.

No, not possible, home fans don't fill empty seats and foreigners are breaking records traveling to Rio this week!!!!

I have been to Brazil, they do not hate Americans whatsoever. Brazil is one of the countries (where like the US) if you ask someone there the best the country in the world they will all say Brazil and not think twice. The only other country that is in their head a little bit is Argentina and that's mostly soccer related.

I'm pretty sure they were annoyed with the Zika net and if there is one rare thing that annoys Brazilians it's the impression that outsiders have about safety there. That and the fact that Americans lump them in with every other LatAm nation and don't realize they don't speak Spanish. And I don't blame them as I have had people make insane assumptions about Americans abroad as well.

Again:

- never said anything about Brazilian "hating" Americans

- clearly stated this IS NOT just about the USA

Geeze.

Sorry, but if your ranked in the top ten of countries from around the world for murders and crime that impression is well deserved.

Maybe another reason why they might not like us is, we were being very picky about the polluted water over there. They think the water is fine and they bath in it all the time but it is not good enough for the snooty Americans.

Cmon man you're wrong singling out a county and its fans when you have zero proof of anything . It's just hearsay . If you want to say fine it's a message board bs than ok . But otherwise you're wrong .

During the women's beach volleyball game last night, the USA girls were booed quite a bit and the announcers said that the USA only gets cheered in the USA. I don't think the people booing hate us, they are just poor sports.

They obviously haven't been to Philly

How can you say that I'm "wrong" when others here have backed me up? I have no anti-Brazil feelings, hence, no need to just make shit up.. As I stated I have Brazilians in my family, love them, and would have gone down to Rio if I could have afforded to do so. I'm just pointing out something that has been very obvious to me over the 1st 2 days of competition.

I'm trying to figure out whose fans they would be IF NOT Brazilian? I've actually discussed events in which Brazil was one of the nations involved, hence, it's pretty damn obvious who is doing the "booing" when the other team scores, don't you think?

Peace.

Folks , they are not a culture with much class. Sorry to say that for the PC libs on the board. It is what it is. The Portuguese down neck Newark actually cringe at the brazilians and their antics . They speak Portuguese but that is where similarities end.

At the end of the games they're still living in that crime infested open sewer so waaaaaaah!

They can always revel in the fact that they'll likely be the reason a developing country is never given the games ever again...
