OT: NCAA College Football Games Thread (Championship Weekend) 12/6-12/7 Fri-Sat

PSU getting the ball back down 8 with 2 mins left

I think any movement of the arm is a fair catch…it doesn’t have to be way over the head…otherwise it would be too confusing

They brought the ball back

OMG what a way to lose for SMU….16 secs left and that KO return killed them
You just can't allow that return - kicking it out of bounds would've been better than that. But what a kick from 56 to win. Dick punch to SMU, though, after that incredible comeback. Hoping that comeback is enough to hold off Bama. Eff Bama.

It would be horribly unfair if the committee screws SMU for losing on a 56 yard FG to Clemson.

This sport is amazing. Don’t care playoff and what all those old people hired by ESPN businessmen “committee” people rank or don’t rank .. college football on the field is the greatest sport there is. Conference titles mean something. Mean more than a stupid playoff game and probably more than a bowl win to some. These are the best 2 days of the year, what classic games tonight.

It was an obvious decision to those that understand the math…more and more coaches (at all levels) are getting it, and you’ll only see it more I the future.
I don't know if it's obvious but I get it. I think it's more philosophical and also depends on how the game is going.

If a coach wants to avoid OT and say I'm going to try and get the win here by avoiding a tie they go for it with the thinking they could have another chance for a 2 to tie later if they don't convert the 2 now. That part to me is philosophical if the coach wants to go that route.

The other part to me is the game was back and forth but PSU was always just a step behind. So that's kind of more reason to try and end it in regulation if the potential exists because it's been difficult to try and keep up with the opponent.

Projection from Dinich at ESPN. I'd probably flip Clemson and SMU but if it was like this projection you'd have a couple Texas teams and Indiana teams facing off.

No. 1 Oregon (Big Ten champ)
No. 2 Georgia (SEC champ)
No. 3 Boise State (Mountain West champ)
No. 4 Arizona State (Big 12 champ)

First-round games

On campus, Dec. 20 and 21

No. 12 Clemson (ACC champ) at No. 5 Penn State
No. 11 SMU at No. 6 Texas
No. 10 Indiana at No. 7 Notre Dame
No. 9 Tennessee at No. 8 Ohio State

My predicted seedings:

1) Oregon
2) Georgia
3) Boise State
4) Arizona State
5) Texas
6) Penn State
7) Notre Dame
8) Ohio State
9) Tennessee
10) Clemson
11) SMU
12) Indiana

10 -12 are pretty much interchangeable.

One thing I do not know is - will the committee actively be looking to avoid early rematches? I think they will. For instance, I think they will avoid seeding Texas #7 which would set up a possible Georgia-Texas rematch

Couple thoughts

1. Nitts came back, but oregon is legit. Theyre record since 2000 and since JF arrived vs top 5 teams is atrocious

2. Clemson kicker has ice in his veins

3. Can’t keep SMU out. No way, no how

4. Selection teams and Herbie kept a certain 13-0/conference champ out last year, even though they won the final 3 game w their backup QB (and the conference champ game w their 3rd stringer), citing the starter being out as the primary reason. By that methodology, shouldn’t UGA be out as well?

*** this is obviously being said tounge in cheek as UGA deserves to be in, I would just like to see the selection committee and Herbie’s hypocrotical spin on this if they were asked
