OT: New Jersey Delis Make the Best Subs

Density, probably not. But that doesn't mean that chains are best they have on offer.

Backcountry Deli is a small Colorado franchise that makes some pretty mean subs.

Tony Caputo's .. Italian deli in Salt Lake City, complete with locally cured meats and nice sub menu.

Go to pretty much any other city or sizable town across the country, and I'll bet you can find something better than the chains.
I second Tony Caputo's. Phenomenal sandwiches.

Mario Batali's dad's place Salumi is in Seattle. They cure their own meats and make sandwiches. I've never eaten there, but it's supposed to be very good.

Yes it is.....I think his sister runs it now. I plan to try it but they have limited hours. I wanted to go over the holidays but when I went t online they were sold out of everything. Italian food and subs here are definitely not the same as NJ.

LOL at any dolt that would actually put down Tastee. Is it gourmet? No! Was it meant to be? No! It's consistently a very, very good sandwich which I agree has a lot to do with their bread. #4 with Cap is the goto Italian sub.

Mr. Sub in Union is the same. Not gourmet but consistently good.

Hershey's in Westfield is a prime example of a sandwich shop that used to be on this level but has slipped over the years.

If you're looking for fancy stuff these aren't your shops. But if you want just a plain old good sub sandwich with your usual suspect in meat they are tough to beat.

"Hurr Durr if you like Tastee, Hurr Durr..." STFU!
