OT: New York Mets 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

Some rumors swirling that the Blue Jays and Alonso are advancing talks... I need to come to reality that Pete is probably gone. I'm totally bummed and disagree with it, especially if he was willing to take 3 years.
If he goes anywhere, I guess I sort of hope it's Toronto, a team that's very far out of sight out of mind and I won't think about much at all.
This is a case of management winning the battle against Pete, but likely to lose the war against the Dodgers, Braves, Phillies, etc. The lineup is no different than last year if not slightly worse. Both sides (Pete & management) lose in this case.

Oh you'll think about it all right. Mets 2025 home opening series is against Toronto!

Slightly worse??? Soto>>>Alonso.

My read is this. IF Jays sign Alonso, that's a tell that they can't or won't re-sign Vlad, and plan to move him. Vlad immediately becomes the Mets Plan A. Maybe he is already.

Only the Mets can think of penny pinching with an owner who was “willing to spend” while the Dodgers find every code, chapter, paragraph, sidenote, and every other nook and cranny to sign $2 Billion + worth of players.

But yeah… They’re wearing the 1987 Road unis!!!!

If the Mets don't re-sign Alonso, it has nothing to do with pennies. It is because THEY DON'T WANT HIM. (And yes I am shouting.)

I continue to believe that if the Mets let Pete go, it's because they plan to spend a lot more on Vlad. If not this year, then next .

Or:

One of Japan's top sluggers is eyeing a move to Major League Baseball in 2026. According to a report from Yahoo Sports Japan, corner infielder Munetaka Murakami announced that 2025 will be his final season in Nippon Professional Baseball, after which he will look to sign with an MLB team. DODGERS?

Until I read that Vlad Guerrero Jr is legitimately in these talks and not some Jomboy/ Barstool/ WFAN goof talking about it, then it’s not a legit thing. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes to the Dodgers anyway.

He's going west coast or Yankees most likely.

He's a FA next year.

Profar to the Braves. Going to be a steal for them and should have been a possible move for us especially if we're losing Pete.

I told everyone a long time ago, nobody wants Fat Pete (i.e., Chris Davis 2.0). I'm sure someone will get stuck with him, but he's nobody's first or second choice.

Your counting on Baty and Mauricio to fill that spot like Vientos did in the lineup last year. There is no guarantee Vlad will sign with the Mets if available. We've seen money isn't everything to certain plays.

FWIW. These two guys cover the Blue Jays for Sportsnet.ca, which is basically Canada's version of ESPN. They say that talks between the Jays and Alonso are NOT progressing well. A far cry from Andy Martino who said that negotiations were on the 10 yard line. (Although to be fair, I don't think he specified WHICH ten year line.)

It turns out that the Santander deal was very heavily deferred. While the nominal value of the 5 year deal is $92.5M, the present value is more like $68.5M. Which results in a real AAV is less than $14M.

I don't think this is helpful to Alonso as his negotiations proceed.

The Mets have agreed to a minor league deal with right-hander Adbert Alzolay

Ugh. Just sign Pete already !

Shame they are putting Mr Met thru this pathetic ordeal !
How dare they offer him a $158 million contract that he was forced to turn down and then, over a year later after he chose to go on the open market, not agree to the earlier of his ever-decreasing contracts demands.

Pete signed up for this when he hired Boras. You don’t sign with him without knowing that negotiations just like this are a possibility.

I just want this Alonso mess to be over already. Either sign with the Msts or sign elsewhere. Tired of all of the click bait headlines from the many so-called people in the know

Man Cohen wasn't pulling any punches about the Pete negotiations that at the fan fest. There's multiple tweets so you'll have to click in to see the rest.

The 'highly assymetric against us" comment is interesting. I assume this has to do with Boras demanding one or more opt outs. Cohen probably responded with OK then we need the option to extend. Boras said no, and Cohen said FU.
