OT: New York Mets 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

Either way, the current roster construction is untenable in terms of infield depth. You have four backup OF - Taylor or Siri, Marte, Winker, and McNeil. But you only have one backup IF.

Marte must be moved somehow, even if the Mets have to eat 75% of his salary.
Having Taylor/Winker/Siri doesn't make much sense. Out of the 3- I like Winker in our lineup but Taylor/Siri both provide elite defense- but why have both and have such an uneven bench

Fat Pete's negotiating tactics finally paid off:

I am so glad that we got your "Fat" Pete back and his 34/88 rather than have to make a trade for a guy who hit 18/78 in a little league field and an aging 1B that got 22/65

So, barring trades or injuries, here's your opening day lineup and bench. I will not attempt to predict batting order.

1B Alonso
2B McNeil
SS Lindor
3B Vientos
LF Nimmo
CF Taylor/Siri
RF Soto
C Alvarez
DH Winker/Marte

BENCH
Torrens
Taylor/Siri
Winker/Marte
Madrigal

No room for Acuna, Baty, or Mauricio. Unless one of them beats out Madrigal.

That said, there are always injuries, and possibly trades.

Jose Siri is going to frustrate fans on this board. He strikes out a ton, doesn't walk all that much, and has a low BA, OBP and OPS.

So my son and I are seriously considering heading down to Port St. Lucie in early March.

Who’s done it before? Any recommendations? Where to stay, eat, etc. ?

Stay on Hutchinson island. Its about a half hour from the stadium. There are hotel resorts and air bnbs on the island

Happened to be in Palm Beach area with a few of my friends a number of years back. Just so happened to be in February, and all parties were cool with the 1 hour drive north to catch an exhibition game (couple huge Mets fans in the mix). Didn't look like that much in the area, but the drive back was painless.

I also recall thinking Bryce Harper was 1000 notches above anyone else I saw on the Mets (except Wright).

My wife and I are going to be there March 1 - 10. We are spending most of time at Hutchinson Island Resort and Spy. Very nice, on ocean but pricey. We will spend a couple of days at Best Western in Port St Lucie. Lots less. We have tickets to 3 games. Very good restaurants. Good side trips to Fort Pierce and to Jensen Beach and Stuart that are not far away. Pretty easy to go to Jupiter for an away game. Can get very close to players. We have been going yearly for a number of years. My wife is the big fan. She treasures photos with David Wright and Darryl Strawberry. Enjoy!⚾️

Siri is a legitimate four-tool player. He provides plus-plus speed, defense, and arm strength, along with decent power.

Problem is, the one tool that he lacks is kind of important.

.187 LY .210 career. 👀💩💩💩

If Alvarez and McNeil hit it will be less of an issue.
If not Taylor and Nimmo will play more CF and Nimmo or McNeil will play LF and Acuña gets a shot

Agree that if Alvarez gets back to 20+ HR, McNeil is .280+ and Winker/Marte are hitting- Siri batting 9th is ok.
But man, guy Ks about 35% of his AB’s.

An example of why counting tools doesn’t mean much unless you start with the base: can hit.

IF- the other guys at 6/7/8 do their job, then we all can like with a 9 hole guy batting .210 with power and speed.
If not- it will be a black hole at the bottom of the lineup that kills anything in front of Lindor.
This is where I would prefer an OMG on the team over Siri

Tango can you stop posting crappy articles in here without any other information about them please? Thanks.

A young Patrick Mahomes shagging fly balls at Shea Stadium. Mike Hampton unexpectedly hit with a roughing the passer penalty. 😆 Even Patrick caught the fly ball that 99 dropped in the World Series wow
