OT: New York Mets 2024-2025 Off Season Thread

Maton was solid. Wonder if they try and bring him back at a lower price.

Travis d’Arnaud is now a free agent, Braves didn’t pick up his option

Mets decline to offer arbitration to DJ Stewart and Joey Lucchesi, who have elected free agency. They have also outrighted Matt Gage, who has accepted minor league assignment.

Mets claim utility man Luis De Los Santos on waivers from Toronto. 26 year old righty hitter who made his MLB debut last year, playing in 13 games.

After years of watching D'Arnaud kill the Mets time again, they sign him this winter in time to watch him spend 3/4 of 2025 on the F'n DL. 😆

Yikes !

Maton is awful.

Bringing him back would be the same as bringing back Heilman / Schoenweis etc.

It’s best he resumes his career somewhere else torturing them !

He was really good in the second half of the year and settled the pen down in September when we needed it most. Yeah he didn't have a good playoffs but to bring him as a mid RP would be smart depending on the money. They obviously didn't think he was worth the option amount.

His performance during the regular season was an outlier from his entire career. His stint with the Mets was 28 innings of a 7-year career that has seen five teams, 400 innings and a 4.16 ERA. Of course the Mets declined the option. Last season, he was a mid-season acquisition that cost the Mets little. Now it's the off-season, more options are available, and the Mets will look for something else and better. If they sign him, it'll be because they couldn't find it.

Roki Sasaki might get posted now this off-season. He'd be one of the top SP available, if not the best. Rumor is the Dodgers would be front-runner to get him.

As usual, it's the Mets, Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, etc. And go . . .

Sasaki isn't going to be like Yamamoto. He's still subject to IFA rules so only smaller pools of money to offer and a lot of the teams are already maxxed out since those deals are agreed upon so early.

Sure, different, way cheaper (which may still mean that he's not posted), but those teams would pursue him. Mets have been scouting him. At least the Mets will have a successful season and Senga to show him. That said, the kid has no experience with 150+ inning seasons, or anything close to that.

Yeah just wanted to make it clear that Cohen's money would not be a factor in this one and how it differs from the pursuit of Yamamoto. This will probably be a West Coast team even if not Dodgers.

Certainly, Cohen's ability to give him a big contract for next year won't be a factor because he can't. But his financial resources to build a a championship caliber team, the huge media market, a potential entertainment destination in Queens (is that thing still even viable), and (we'd hope) a good word from Senga could help. This isn't the jughead Wilpons. It's Cohen and a superstar POBO. That may help. Of course, it may not.

Yes on the other stuff you mentioned you're preaching to the choir. I've been saying the same stuff since he took over and especially since he hired Stearns. I haven't wavered from that and said multiple times last year we've probably never been in better hands. This continues to be the case and the reason I didnt give up on the team even through the slow start this season.

For me, if Adames is not at SS - he is just an average corner infielder. I assume he is a plus fielder.
But for the same money- we know Pete can handle New York. I would feel better with Vientos/Alonso on the corners over Adames/Vientos

Know, if you don’t get Soto- you sign Adames, Alonso, Burns for less than you would pay Soto..,

There are so many numbnuts on X now that paying attention to most of it is pointless. DiComo is real.
