I'm not saying it was a good trade. However, I'm convinced he only reached this level of success because he left. Our ability to develop high major talent is pretty crappy.
So that means it's back to the same hitting instructions based on the same Cashman analytics team. Ugh.

I'm not sure if that guy will be the agent of many free agents if he's going to "warn" players not to negotiate with the Yankees. Outside of the big names out there- what are your thoughts on how the Yankees can fix this for next year and the near future? Ohtani or Bellinger would be huge gets but where do they find the other pieces? Are they, in some part, the kids?
The Yankees have to make a decision as to how large their payroll will be. They have 2 bad contracts left: Stanton and Hicks. They should be able to get 2 splashy free agents to help solidify the team. They also need to hope for bounce back years from Rodon and Cortes. The best possible pickups for this team are the Japanese pitcher and Soto. I'm not even a huge Soto guy but he would fill a huge void in the lineup with his lefty bat and ability to play left field. We also have the prospects to pull it off, especially if we're never going to give them a fair chance to produce, we might as well ditch them.
They also need a one year CF along with some bullpen help.
Not much that can be done at this point with Hicks. Stanton- wow, what a mess he is and with all the money he has stolen from them, his crap and his agent is so pathetic. I normally side with players but this guy is just bad shit.
Agree that you really do have to hope you get good Rodon and Cortes- that would do wonders. Soto would crush it here with his bat but I understand he is closer to being a DH then a good OF, but I may be wrong.
I do think a couple of these kids can become very good. And hope Volpe can figure out his bat, if he does, he can be elite.

The trade may be on the verge of happening. Giving up Thorpe, King, Schmidt, Vasquez, and Brito for one-year guarantee with this guy does seem too much.
Michael Kay seemed confident the Yankees could sign him to a huge long term contract.

Also, the Yanks trade with Boston for Alex Verdugo. For three minor league pitchers: Richard Fitts, Greg Weissert, and Nicholas Judice...all righties.

MLB is talking like the Soto is almost a done deal. He is the last guy I want unless it includes trading Stanton. Soto will be Stanton in a few years. He already is a bad outfielder.

Only King would hurt losing, but you can't get a Soto without giving up someone legit.
I agree but 7 high potential players for a guy in a walk year is too much. Current deal is King, Thorpe, Higgy, Brito and Vasquez for Soto and Grisham. That's much more realistic.
They Yankees should go the way of the Boss as the window for winning is narrow and ticking.
Don't give nothing good. First no one else is trying to trade for Soto. San Diego doesn't want to pay him as his last arbitration is going to be
big $. Paying top dollar for a guy the media is in love with. How did the Padres do with the their trade getting him??
I get that prospects are just that, but giving up the farm for a one year rental makes no sense. Soto is a great player, but not worth the asking price for only 1 guaranteed year. All that to say, I agree with you.

As a guy who watched 90% of Soto's games in a Padres uniform I'll be happy to see him go. He's an analytics dream with all of his walks and numbers but I can't tell you how many borderline third strikes he took with runners on base this year. For ever 450 foot HR you'll see 4 weak groundballs to second with a runner on second and two outs.
His one great ability is to hit when things don't matter. Like a 3 run blast in the bottom of the 8th when your team is up 9-2. I'm sure one of you stats freaks will come up with a number to prove me wrong but I'm just saying what I've seen. He'll be better at Yankee Stadium but personally I'll be glad to see him go. The Padres will regret the trading of Abrams and Gore for years to come just like when they traded Trea Turner and ended up with Wil Myers.
