They cut the rate from $15 to $9 in a bid to make it more palatable to people. Plus they're offering a discount to lower income families.

Congestion pricing plan opposed by Trump returns with new reduced tolls

The decision, Hochul explained, was crafted to ease the financial burden on New York's working families while maintaining critical funding for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Additional discounts are being introduced for low-income drivers making less than $50,000 annually, who will receive a 50% discount after their 10th toll each month.

"No New Yorker should have to pay a penny more than necessary," Hochul said.

Hochul had abruptly paused the program just before it was set to go into effect in June with a base rate of $15 — and then relaunched with with the lower fee just before President-elect Donald Trump’s administration had an opportunity to block it.

Critics argue the first-in-the-nation toll — which was first approved by state lawmakers and then-Gov. Andrew Cuomo in 2019 — is just a cash grab for the MTA that’ll saddle New York City drivers with yet another fee.

Did they fix fare evasion?

good job Hochul and whoever else is running the shit show .

Did they fix fare evasion?

Of course not!

The biggest fare evasion came from buses, where a third of riders failed to pay the fare, costing $315 million, the panel found. Another $285 million came from subway riders jumping the turnstiles and not paying, while commuter rail fare evasion came to about $44 million.

Finally, drivers with obscured or counterfeit licenses plates cost $46 million in lost revenue from the MTA’s bridges and tunnels, the report says.

Funny to hear a quote from Hochul saying how the new plan was going to "save commuters money", because this cash grab is less than the initial one. The balls on that broad. And of course, as stated above, you'd have to be a complete idiot to think this pause was nothing other than strictly for the election. No wonder NYC is such a cesspool.

Why actually prosecute crime like fare evasion when you can stick it to the people that are powerless in the situation? Cash grab and an appeal to her likely voters.

This is when I miss Christie. He always stuck up for NJ and he would tell NY to shuff it and figure out a way to tax NY residents that come to NJ.
That's coming EZ Pass will be setup on the Jersey side and there will be a tax credit for NJ residents that incur congestion charges in NYC

“broad”, lol

Ok boomer

What a surprise. They waited one week after the elections to bring it back. Did anyone think they were not going to do that.

@DJ Spanky - can you PM me because I'm very confused by what is acceptable and what is not acceptable to post on the forum these days.

I wrote a post the other day in which I teased Bac about his frequent use of the term "nothingburger" years ago. I mentioned no specific politician, no political issue, no political party or ideology. And that post was apparently deleted for being political.

This thread starts out by specifically mentioning a politician, taking a position with respect to that politician, and then has several subsequent posts bringing up other politicians also with people taking positions about them, all over something that seems to a politically divisive issue.

I am 100% fine with this thread, personally. I see nothing wrong with it. And I don't really care that my post the other day was deleted as it was totally unimportant and just about having fun with Bac.

I just want to know why a post that wasn't political, where I didn't take anybody's side on any issues, where I never mentioned anything at all about politics except in a totally hypothetical way by writing "politician X" in an entirely and obviously joking manner, was deleted as being political but this thread and most of the posts in it, which are obviously and overtly political are okay.

What is the difference?

Again, if you don't want to clarify for everybody, please reach out to me via PM. I'm just looking for clarification on what is and is not acceptable to post.

She had the worst approval rate (28%) ever before this reversal--after this political fiasco it will go lower.

do u people want to see a play that badly?

She was never going to be good what made you ever think that ? At least you finally saw the real person .
Admittedly I didn’t know much about her but she did seem more moderate. I figured she would be more sensible coming from upstate but was so wrong on her.

I particularly annoyed at paying crazy high tunnel tolls plus congestion pricing tolls or alternatively deal with more traffic at GWB along with everyone else avoiding the fee. Solving congestion in NYC should not cause more congestion in NJ. I’m assuming a lot of federal funding went into those crossings to improve regional flow. NYC should be fined or charged back by the Feds. If I want to take the tunnel to go somewhere above the congestion zone I should not have to pay to pass through, and the same tech should be able to figure that out.

They have some exceptions for disabled riders who have difficulty with taking the trains, but it’s a PITA to get it and requires an evaluation appt in NYC.

This looks like a good

thread
People from NJ will have to pay the price if they want to see Rutgers play Syracuse in the Pinstripe
They own NY so the Orange will make Scarlet Knight fans pay a high "toll" to see the game

So instead of driving there I suggest :
Skip the bother
Skip the fuss
Take a Public Service Bus
Public Service sure is great
It takes you right up to the gate

Lol you want a PM and then spill the whole thing out in a public post.
It's a valid ask of course but just found it unlike you..
