OT: OFFICIAL 2017 LET'S GO METS SEASON THREAD

Stay classy Sanchez, lol. Sucker punched a player on the ground!!!!! Went so far as to compare it to the Ray Rice incident because there is a video of it.
Jealous you don't have Sanchez? Looks like an all-star for the next decade. The Tigers learned a lesson, don't intentionally throw at him.

Travis Taijeron has been called up and is in the lineup today. I love it when "non-prospects" finally get their shot. May he make the most of it. Gio Gonzalez is a tough way to break in though. EDIT: Also, Reyes has been activated from the DL and is playing 2B. Expect to see him in CF at some point.

An update for those who have made the very rational decision to stop paying attention:
  • David Wright, who had been hoping to return this year at least as a pinch-hitter, suffered a setback and is done for the year. Most likely for good, which is not good.
  • Michael Conforto has elected to have shoulder surgery. Not yet scheduled. Mets will see how it goes and plan accordingly.
  • Asdrubal Cabrera is still here. What would have been the odds on that six weeks ago?
  • Mets have brought up two of the pitchers acquired in the clearance sale - Jacob Rhame and Jamie Callahan. Both pitched yesterday.
  • Rafael Montero pitched 8.1 shutout innings on Wednesday! Only game the Mets have won all week.
  • Mets signed veteran OF Nori Aoki who had been DFA'd by Toronto. I doubt he is in their future plans, just a body to help finish the season.
  • Matt Harvey pitched two innings yesterday and gave up seven runs, but afterward was upbeat (as opposed to beat up). He said that the main thing was that he felt good. The mechanics, velocity, and results will return. We shall see.
  • Noah Syndergaard has begun a rehab assignment, so we should see him again before the year is out. That would be a welcome sight.
  • Another injury - this time to Wilmer Flores. Fouled a ball off his face and broke his nose. Can't make this shit up.
If you think the Mets look like a AAA team now, you are correct. Prior to the acquisition of Aoki and injury to Flores, they had twelve healthy position players. Seven of them (Rosario, Smith, Cecchini, Reynolds, Nimmo, Plawecki, and Taijeron) have spent most of the season in AAA.

And now Rosario got hit by a pitch. Xrays for his finger were negative. So with the medical staff, he won't be back until August, 2018.

Feel badly for DeGrom, could have won 18 games but the pathetic lineup behind him now.

Nah. The most wins any NL pitcher has is 16. Gio Gonzalez and Max Scherzer, with much lower ERAs and a much better team behind them, each only has 13 wins. Starting pitchers just don't get as many decisions as they used to.

Next up for Mets?

Okay 17. Should have at least one more win.
Nah again. DeGrom has 14 wins, 17 would be three more. Shed no tears for Jake. He has been the beneficiary of 5.8 runs per game, 13th highest total among starting pitchers in all of MLB.

This Mets lineup is eerily reminiscent of a time when their offense was the worst in the league. A time when they were playing guys like Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Darrell Ceciliani, Eric Campbell, Johnny Monell, John Mayberry Jr., Danny Muno, and Anthony Recker.

Remember then? I know you do, because it was only two years ago. Then some guys got healthy, they made some trades, and got lucky with a trade that they didn't make. And they rebuilt the team and made it to the World Series.

The process took about two months. Not years, months.

How was that possible? Because with all that turmoil in their lineup, they had one constant, GREAT STARTING PITCHING. Their pitching kept them afloat when the offense was anemic, and catapulted them to the top when the offense turned it around.

This team has not given up on 2018. IF the pitching rebounds (and that is one gigantic IF), then they will contend next year. If it doesn't, they won't.

Some of their starting pitching would still be around if their worthless pitching coach didn't run them into the ground with his THROW HARD philosophy. The only pitcher who survived this season was deGrom and that was because he listened to John Smoltz on how to keep himself in pitching shape throughout the season.

Have the wilpons set up some extra lighting rods at Citi field? I sure wouldn't want to play on that field.

Getting ready for the excuse when the Mets are up 4 games over the Yankees, 16 games into the season, lol. Of course, this will be highlighted, and thrown in my face if in fact this isn't the case, but either way, the Mets will own the media, and city once again. Irregardless, of turnstile counts, of course the Yankees are a corporate draw, greater than the Mets will ever be, never the less, the Mets WILL own the back sports page, all summer long, and the Yankees story will be about the "kids" being a year away. LGM

Bump.

Wilmer Flores out for season with broken nose. Somewhere there is a hockey player rolling in laughter.

Harvey started tonight, 92-93 on the fastball, 5 innings, 2 runs, 1 strikeout, 1 win. Forget the Harvey of old, will be ever again be a serviceable back of the rotation starter? Do the Mets make him a qualifying offer for 2018? I think they do, but it would be nice if over the next three weeks he could erase all doubts.

Wanna hear something funny? Nimmo batted cleanup tonight. Wanna hear something funnier? He hit two homers and a double. Sometimes you just grow into your role. There's something you gotta love about Nimmo. Such joy of the game. Like Pete Rose without all the ick. Also without about 4,200 hits.

Wanna hear something even funnier? (Not ha-ha funny, weird funny.) Alderson referred to d'Arnaud and Plawecki as "above average catchers", and said he "feels pretty good" about going into 2018 with the two of them. So it looks like Mets won't be in the market for a catcher. Of course that could just be GM-speak.

The Mets really need to move on from Alderson. Get a new GM and a new training and medical staff. And 2 new catchers.
