This Mets lineup is eerily reminiscent of a time when their offense was the worst in the league. A time when they were playing guys like Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Darrell Ceciliani, Eric Campbell, Johnny Monell, John Mayberry Jr., Danny Muno, and Anthony Recker.
Remember then? I know you do, because it was only two years ago. Then some guys got healthy, they made some trades, and got lucky with a trade that they didn't make. And they rebuilt the team and made it to the World Series.
The process took about two months. Not years, months.
How was that possible? Because with all that turmoil in their lineup, they had one constant, GREAT STARTING PITCHING. Their pitching kept them afloat when the offense was anemic, and catapulted them to the top when the offense turned it around.
This team has not given up on 2018. IF the pitching rebounds (and that is one gigantic IF), then they will contend next year. If it doesn't, they won't.
