From the replay I saw the ball was clearly fair. Unless, as has been suggested, it hit the batter's leg (which I did not see). If so, it should have immediately been called foul and there would have been no need to swipe at the ball.

The way Walker played it, it must have looked to be foul. You see guys toss the ball off like that with the glove quite a bit if it is foul of the line. I wonder if it bouncing foul and then came back into play through him off and maybe the last time he actually looked it was on the fould side of the line

I agree with Doc above the replay showed the ball to be fair although we will never know from Walker's angle if he saw it clearly in the midst of the play. I am glad the team got fired up over something. Reds just got swept by the Brewers and may be giving up. We really need to go in there and win the series.
Go to 3:10 of this Jomboy video. Like I said earlier from the home plate view, ball is over the line but not touching it ( maybe that’s too technical so I’d say it’s fair. But next shot is from Walkers view and it looked like there was a slither of some dirt between the ball and the line before Walker scooped it up. So he may have a point in the argument.

As a general rule, when you want a slow roller to be ruled foul, we were trained to quickly touch the ball to establish it as foul, which at times resulted in slapping it away rather than taking the time to pick it up. But if the foul/fair call is going to be close and could go either way, it's none-too-smart to slap it away, and certainly not that far away. As we all saw. It's even less smart to argue about it after the ump calls it fair. As far as the ump's call, it was reasonable, and I don't agree that it could've been overturned by replay.

As I watch this closer- the base of the ball that is actually in contact with the ground may actually be foul but the side of the ball that is not in contact with the ground is just on the line. It is a lot closer to foul than I initially thought.

Them Pirates were tough. They hate the Mets, it seems. Maybe they will drift back to crappiness, but just by the eyeball test, they had some solid hitters who were hitting. Found it hard to believe they had the worst offense in the NL. Just looked it up, they are now 9th in NL in batting average, (0.005 behind the Phils), but last in slugging %, and second to last in OPS.

Y'all probably know this, but the play was not reviewable. Fair/foul calls are only reviewable after the ball passes 1st or 3rd base. No idea why.

As a ball is round, the bottom of it could possibly be in foul territory but the "fatter" part of the ball that is not in contact with the ground could actually be over the line. If the part of the ball not touching the ground is over the line when touched but the bottom is not, what is it, fair or foul?
