Now, if our current starters continue what they are doing- deGrom, Stroman, Walker, Megill- that gives us 4 guys pitching at elite level or what I call 1 and 2 starter levels. We bring in Hill, who would be a 3/4 on many teams. That is a solid to very good staff. If Carasco can come in and get up to speed and hopefully Noah after that, our big question becomes, who do we put in the pen? If MeGill is still pitching like this, would almost be afraid to screw him up with it.
but these are 1st level problems. If we get our hitters doing their part- will be a fun ride.

Noah at the earliest won’t be back until Labor Day or so. Thus I wouldn’t expect him being more than a bullpen arm for this year.
I’d like to see Carrasco get 1 more start in the minors before his promotion to the Mets
Right now just hoping we stay healthy and Lindor and McNeil return shortly

With this looking like a very tight race right through September, I'd be a little worried about Thor starting any games that late in the season, sorry, I am. Use him as mop-up or middle relief until he shows to be all the way back.

I would be ok with Noah being the one going to the pen. And hopefully he does well and we get him back on a very short “ show-me” contract.
with Hill coming- I think we can give Carasco another start down there but I am a bit concerned with deGrom. I am sure his next 2 start will max out at 80 pitches or 5 innings.
not sure how many BO performances we can get like yesterday.

Depth move. Compensates for loss of Fargas. Nothing to get excited or upset about.

The headline item IMO is moving Peterson to the 60 day. He won't be back in until September at the earliest. You may recall that Peterson's injury had a standard 8 week recovery period, but for some unknown reason the Mets believed he'd be back sooner. Obviously they no longer do.

Transactions du jour:

Rich Hill activated.
Brandon Drury back up (which may suggest McNeil's return is not imminent).
Stephen Nogosek to 10 day IL.
David Peterson to 60 day IL as discussed.
Nick Tropeano optioned to Syracuse.
Newly acquired Mark Payton optioned to Syracuse.
Jared Eickhoff cleared waivers, but declined assignment to Syracuse and has elected free agency.

SO... back to a 13 man staff with 5 man bench (but only 4 healthy). Until that changes tomorrow.

Walker Allstar hangover.
Being scouted better. Overall he outperformed in first half. I’m not expecting similar second half for him. Knew it would be a tough game for him given blue jays were shut out yesterday and Springer hit him hard in first ab. I’m at game.

Walker winced on a swing and miss .

Teach pitchers to choke up , widen stance and take short compact swings .

In other news, guess who threw six no-run one-hit innings tonight? HINT: it's the same guy who threw six scoreless innings in his last start before tonight.

Want more hints? He plays for the Orioles and his initials are MH.

Hmmm...
