OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

In some part, we came into the season thinking the hitters were going to produce at their best. But even if they played up to their real normal, we would be so much better. The injuries have hurt us there too.
McCann is actually where he is normally. Pete slightly down in power. McNeil- he isn’t a .270 hitter- he is at least 20-30 points below , Davis is doing expected but missed so much time- his replacements cost us 40-50 points in BA, Lindor is not a .230 hitter- 40 points, Smith- he is the unknown - so maybe he is a .250 hitter and not .300 Nimmo is actually hitting for a higher BA but he hasn’t had power but his replacements cost us 40-50 points of OBP and Conforto- like him or not, he isn’t a .225 hitter so there is another 40-50 points off BA
So, even if these guys just hit to their low expectation and if there were a couple less injury- it would be different.
Pitching- you are right. But think our management- is more to blame. We have seen our starters visibly upset when taken out of games so early. The bullpen has been pretty good, but you are right, way overworked. Seems we go with a min of 4 guys every night.
I think we gave the hitter too much credit when they truly haven't earned it. Go back to 2019 with most of these hitters, and you'll see a pattern developing, and you won't like it. 2019 when the Mets were way behind Atlanta in the standings, they went on a run for the ages. They hit like world-beaters and climbed back into the race. Then when it matter most, they showed up small in September. The pundits chalked it up to the Mets running out of energy and time, but the call went out "wait 'til next year." In 2020 the inability to hit in clutch situations flashed again. This time when men were in scoring position. The Mets can collect hits to get on base but can't get that timely hit to drive in those runs. It cost the Mets a chance to make the playoffs when the league gave slots to anyone who wanted one. Again, the pundits placed the blame on the pandemic. The 2021 season is similar in the fact the offense has been hit and miss once again. It actually is more frustrating than 2020 because the pitching was superior in 2021 for 2/3 of the year, giving everyone hope. All we need was for the offense to be average when it counts. The disappearance of the offense all season has led to a pitching staff that is taxed beyond belief.

I think Cohen has to clean house, starting with management if he wasn't to break bad habits. Find a president who will do his job of finding a VP and a GM. Find a balance between the baseball people and the analytics. Last, hire a manager who isn't learning on the run. Rojas would be fine if the expectations of making the playoffs weren't within reach this year.

3-10 is looking like a real possibility now. Can't seem to beat the Dodgers no matter what. Whether the pitching is mediocre or damn good they find a way to come up short against them and it's been that way for the last few years. Think the Dodgers have beaten us at Citi like it's their home. Something like 21 out of the last 25 or some crazy number like that. Our only hope to stay in this through the end of the month is for those other 2 teams to start losing some games at the same time. If nor we'll be 5 or so games behind by September 1st

Not true at all. Prospects hold value.
Really. Until they prove it they mean nothing. Now if you are saying others may had had more interest in PCA and have a better trade then that is something else. For me I’d rather the proven major league player that when healthy can be a very good player then someone who may or may not do well in the majors.

Nothing will change until Sandy Alderson is gone. Until then…

At game. Have never before been to a Met game where the flags are hanging completely limp. No breeze at all.

Why does every hit and every ball hitting the catcher's mitt sound greatly enhanced on ESPN? Annoying.
Because ESPN are like Brooklyn Hipsters with their 10 inch beards, $13 beer with 6.4% alcohol, moving into other cities to force unused bike lanes on everyone. ESPN is that annoying.

Going to try and stay positive. When the DH finally comes to the NL maybe we keep Jake Reed where he can pitch out of the pen and be our pinch runner. Loved his hustle down to first

You at the game again?
Yep. Mets now 0-10 with RISP after just four innings. Two of those outs scored runs, so at least there's that. Mets trail 6-2 after four, at a four hour pace.

Dodgers trying to keep Mets in the game with some laughable defense. Only one charged error, but three or four other misplays.

Conforto misplay leads to 3 runs
Thank you for not signing any type of extension to stay with the Mets…

Or does he and Boras have a plan for him to play so bad that the Mets won’t even give him a qualifying offer in the offseason.

Team is on Life Support....will probaly be DOA after next weekend.......

Cohen better do whatever it takes to get Theo Epstein....and don't whiff going after big free agents for $25M like Springer........and revamp the offense as it's repulsive

Oh I thought you never posted anything negative about the Yankees! You are just another troll just like the rest. ****ing clown
I said not in the Yankee thread moron.

Geez, Shortbus, I said not in the Yankee thread, like so many as you call it "ing clowns", Yankees fans do in this thread, 👀 lol. I didn't realize that little tidbit would blow your skirt up and get your panties in such a bunch. LMFAO. Of course I post negative stuff about The Frontrunners, what a moron you are. Thanks for trolling ME again though. How foolish you look. That took a short time before another short response from you. Nice and short, I like it.😁
