Its hard to evaluate this team due to all the injuries. Was the time in first place a mirage or was it proof they were on the right track. Others may disagree but I still say Rojas burnt the pen out in the first half.
Its going to be hard to decide what to do with guys like Smith and Conforto who have had really sub par years. Conforto I probably make a qualifying offer and let him walk if someone offers big $$$. Smith has really regressed at the plate and I am not sure if the Smith we saw last year or this years version is the real Smith. These two compromise the bulk of our left handed power and combined have not hit 20 home runs. Put another way, they only have 5 more homeruns combined than Villar. One of them has to be replaced in the off season.
If Uncle Stevie ain't happy, ain't nobody happy.
To both posts--Steve is purportedly a smart guy who has made billions. He should be able to hire somebody to figure it out. What has changed in the last 2 years?
Alonso's power production is way down from 2019, or maybe that was a flash in the pan?
Conforto, McNeil are far down from last several years, as we know.
Nimmo, Davis and McCann seem to be on par.
Did not realize that Smith has never had more than 177 ABs prior to this season. He had a decent 2020 with a 316 avg, and he was trending up. He's having a rough year.
So with Alonso, McNeil, Conforto and Smith not hitting well, and no deGrom and the pitching slipping after the All Star break, you get a losing streak.
Stroman's frustration is bubbling over. Remember when he was asked to not swing with the bases loaded and then Nimmo (I think) grounded out ending the inning 2 or 3 games ago? Considering he put up a respectable game holding a division leading team to 3 runs, why the hell should he have to answer the question as to the results not being there. I like his answer and what he muttered after the answer. Those are better questions for Nimmo, McNeil, Conforto, Davis and others.
