OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

Mets also set a franchise record - most position players used as pitcher in one game - two.

The Mets' pitching has falling off, but the anger and disappointment should be directed at the hitters. They haven't bothered to show all season. The hitters put too much pressure on the pitching and now it's catching up to the pitching staff.

Who are you keeping ?
Who are you forced to keep ?

need to make some big moves in the off-season .
DH will help solve a few issues but this group can’t come back next year. Maybe being so friendly isn’t that important or these guys can’t get it done with all friends.

just like other professions some people work harder and better with friends , others may not and be too relaxed around friends

Other then helping our pitchers not get injured swinging the Bat, how will the DH help? It is not like we have solid hitters riding the bench because they don’t have a position open for them.

It'll move Alonso off first and put a better fielder there. But, yeah, they will then need an outfielder who can hit and field. They could use a couple of those.

But before all that, they have to get the front office in order and properly build or rebuild the organization. They just do.

Hate to say it, but I've moved on.
Symbolically, watched the first two Rambo movies last night instead of the remainder of the game. In Rambo 2, he says to Col Trautman, "Do we get to win this time?" In Rambo 2, they got to win.

The Mets lately have been a bad movie with nearly the same story line and the same tragic ending. It is not enjoyable any longer.

Football season starts in nearly 2 weeks, which will help in moving on.

2.5 out, with 7 weeks left in the season, really? Wasn't it you that was so fed up with so many negative Mets fans postings? It's bad enough we have so many short sighted fans, and so many Amigos who come visiting with their short lived rooting interest when things are going good to bust balls. 😁

What has changed in the last 2 weeks to inspire confidence that the Mets will win the East as compared to the Braves and the Phillies? Have not seen anything. The pitching as declined. The hitting may have actually declined too. Hate to be a downer, but show me a sign that the Mets will pull this out, other than waiting for the Braves or the Phillies to fail worse.

In case anyone didn't know we lost last night. Kris Bryant hit 2 HRs.
Positives:
  • Alonso hit a triple, to break MLB record team streak of 68 games without one.
  • Scored five runs, unfortunately conceded seven.
  • Actually led for half an inning!
  • Villar hit his 14th HR - who would have thought Villar would be second on the team in homers?
  • Got a hit (Alonso's triple) with RISP. One for seven with RISP, which is a big improvement over the Dodger series.
Yeah I know that was lame, but it's the best I got.

Watched most of the game but not once it came to the Trevor May portion. Not even after I checked the score and saw they had cut it from 7-3 to 7-5, because I knew two things. The home run that cut the deficit only happened because they were down 4, and would have never happened if they had been down by a run or two at the time. Think I'll watch a movie tonight instead.

If they score some runs it will only be when the pitching gives up more. When they get a good pitching performance they won't score a damn thing.

@RuBird and @Doctor Worm starring on Broadway in a remake of the Sunshine Boys?

Just ribbing you guys. I try to maintain a positive outlook, and as I watched through the sixth inning last night, I thought, maybe they are getting it together? But lately, it's like Rosanna Rosanna Danna used to say:

sub-buzz-1583-1579270524-8.jpg

Or something like that.

Sad, because Castro has not been terrible. Heck, after 3 innings of good work, was thinking Rich Hill may have turned a corner. But then, bam, and dark thoughts crept in:

Take it easy, I am well aware of how bad the Mets are and what little chance of the playoffs is fading quickly. I also am a Rutgers fan as everyone is on this board. It has taught me to root for your team no matter how bad they are. I’d rather try to see the positives ( trust me it has not been easy) then give up and watch movies I have seen hundreds of times. To each his/her own.

I am mostly with you, and I was merely trying to inject a few humorous memes to relate the feelings of some Mets fans. I noticed the positives, but when playing teams like the Giants and Dodgers, obviously more is needed.

Consistency is key. Pete has flashed the bat over the last couple of weeks, and the pitching has not been horrific, but Mets are going to need a sustained run on offense and reasonable pitching to make a run. Yeah, that's a big duh statement.

The best teams in baseball have quality depth that can fill in when injuries happen. Safe to say the Villar, Pillar, Drurys, etc etc are much better coming off the bench. Stro and Walker are much better 2 and 3 starters the. 1 and 2 without Jake ( even 3 and 4 if you include Thor).
A healthy Jake, Baez and Lindor would make a big difference. Enough to make the playoffs? Maybe with a week NL East. Enough to make the World Series. Nope, even with those three, way too many holes

The season really went down the tubes with the loss of Lindor and deGrom. Baez, the jury is out, but hopefully the Mets to not make him a long term offer.
It will be interesting to see what they do with Conforto (some fans' favorite punching bag). According to the SNY crew, he is and Schwarber are the only 2 left hand batting free agent outfielders, and they think Conforto will get paid.

Normally I would say at least Conforto is an good defender with a very good arm. This year he looks lost out there, minus a few put outs at home.

Does it matter anymore? Even trolling this thread has gotten dull. :)
Amazing how you've forgotten how dead your thread has been for 4 months. Frontrunners, shortsighted, lmfao. Wasn't it you just a few weeks ago that said blow it up, the Yankees are done? lmfao. Forget it, can't even get any of you losers to admit the prediction of multiple titles in a 5 year period by your New Core 4. PS. It's year 5.

What will the Mets draw at home for the rest of the year,if Billy D. enforces his plan at Citi Field?Fortunately, the Islanders' new place is outside of the city's limits.

I think the Lindor injury was the straw that broke the camel's back. He was the glue defensively even though his hitting was well below his career numbers. I also think the manager overworked the BP in the 1st half of the year. Granted the injuries to the pitching staff were insane but I still think he needs work on handling his pen.

People want to knock Lindor, but you are right. He was the guy who held this team together.

Even before the injuries became an issue, Rojas' approach was the same. Rojas would overwork the BP because he doesn't know any better. The bigger the situation, the more it exposed Rojas' lack of experience. He never deviates from the game plan because that's his comfort level. By the 6th inning, you go to the bullpen regardless of what the starting pitcher is doing.

I'm more upset with management. They were more concerned with a rat vs. a squirrel or following injury protocols than addressing the team's shortcomings. Btw, why would I listen to management (or the trainers) when they misdiagnose injuries a few times. We had the Nimmo finger situation and the seriousness of deGrom's injury, which management failed to address at the trade deadline.

Sadly, I was about to compliment Lindor for always being on the field - then the next game he goes down and hasn’t been heard from since.

Nimmo gave management the finger? (sorry)

You look at the Phils and Girardi is getting more from his imho less talented team then we are. His bullpen has been terrible but he has managed it better. Our manager got a lesson over the weekend from Roberts. Hope it sinks in.

How has he managed it better? Their bullpen was a laughing stock the first half. One reason the Phils have surged is that they have played terrible teams, and Neris' ERA is less than half (4.72) of what it was first half in the second half (2.12). It may be more on the players playing better and the level of competition than managing.

The 3 months that the Mets spent in first place was mostly because Phillies and Braves were struggling. They should have taken the team apart in April when these guys had high value. Now, not so much. We added at least another 5 years for the inevitable rebuild. Sad state of affairs.
