OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

The Athletic has reported several of the balls used by Bauer, against Oakland, were sent to the MLB's office. The balls had clear visible markings that were not present when first put into play. Also, the balls had a sticky substance on them.
Didn't he admit the using substances on the ball not too long ago? Way to cash in on your newfound success going from an average pitcher to a stud.

Ten years ago, yes. Now, IDK. Umps may give both managers a pregame warning. Anybody gets drilled, your pitcher gets run, as do you.

I remember being at the first Met-Dodger game of 2016. First inning, Noah Syndergaard pitching to Chase F'n Utley. First pitch sails over Utley's head. Noah gets run. I wound up paying to see Logan Verrett. Needless to say the Mets didn't win that game.
I can't see a pre-game warning issued. The only time you really see that is when the prior game had either a dust-up or some HBP.

I am actually glad we did not sign him. Would rather give the money to Thor.

What's interesting is his response last month about MLB getting serious about monitoring foreign substances on baseballs. He basically pointed fingers at everyone else on his own team that may come into contact with the baseball as opposed to his own actions. That changed my view of Bauer. He would have been really difficult to root for if he would have signed with the Mets. Comes off as a loud mouth jerk.

Wow. That elbow thrust into a pitch right over the plate reeks of desperation. I say that play becomes reviewable in 2022.
I can only imagine Mets fans reaction if Sanchez or Stanton pulled a move like that and was rewarded by the umpire.

Jeffrey Maher...

Roger Clemens...

Aroldis Chapman...

Domingo German...

And who cares about the Yankees on this thread? It’s not all about the Yankees 24/7...

And that person wondered why Mets threads were twice the length more than Yankee or Phillies threads. It’s because of non related nonsense like this.

But... But... Bauer Fans were saying that he was the best pitcher in baseball because of a 2 month season!!!!!! He deserved a contract twice as DeGrom even though he has the same stats as Stroman, who sucked according to those same nimrods.

Let's not exaggerate - I wanted him on the Mets and not the Dodgers. I'm looking for another ring sometime soon while I'm still alive, and him signing with LAD doesn't help that cause.

Im sure I have seen Derek and Paul take a few like that over the years.

BTW- watching it for the first time...kind of interesting...Just reading the thread and facebook with Yankee fans, it seemed that Conforto jumped into this pitch over the middle of the plate. While, he could have moved out of the way, the real issue is that he didn't move. And there is a part of me seeing the location and that it only grazed him, he may have expected it to be dropping more and got kind of fooled.

It is a strange look but not as cut and dry as I thought.

I see Baseball implementing a rule next year in that the same way it’s a strike if you swing and miss at a pitch that hits you, it will be a strike if you get hit by a pitch in the strike zone, no exemptions. I’m shocked that it’s not a rule right now.

And I’ve been saying this for years that those Barry Bonds elbow armor should be illegal unless you’re coming off documented elbow surgery for this reason. It would prevent BS like this.
But still, a win is a win and I’ll take it, esp after years of being on the wrong side of those calls.

Why would we be upset with that? Whatever it takes within the rules. One of the funniest HBP I’ve ever seen was during one of my daughters club softball games. With the windmill motion every si often a pitcher will clip her hip or leg on a pitch and throw a grounder. We were at a tourney in NY and one of her teammates was batting. Pitcher caught the ball on her hip and ball rolled super slow to home. Her teammate stood there and watched ball roll into her foot. HBP, take first (no requirement to try to get out of way of a pitch in girls softball). We were all laughing hysterically.

Well as a Yankee fan, I would hope you wouldn't want Plexiglass Judge to try that, he'd be out for 3 months, lmfao!!!! Sanchez wouldn't put forth the effort, and Stanton is just looking to collect a paycheck.

"That person" thinks it's because Yankee fans are front runners that don't come out until the Yankees are doing something good! Hence, the Dead Zone from the "Varsity", lol. If your speaking of me, and what you thought was my take on the lack of Yankee action in your above post, your wrong . Mets fans, are just more into talking baseball, win or lose than the "varsity" who haven't won nearly as much as they thought they would the last 12 years.

Keith Hernandez and his cat talked about this this morning on the Dan Patrick Show. Apparently there IS a rule that it’s a strike if you get hit by a pitch that’s in the strike zone but the ump blew the call.

And he would understand if the Marlins blasted Conforto with a 100 mph fastball to his ribs Saturday.

So I guess you’re admitting that you have multiple accounts on Rivals.com because I wasn’t referring to you or your account. I don’t know wtf your problem is with me since this is the second time you went after me on something that had nothing to do with you but congrats.

You didn't "like" a post from a d-bag calling me a moron? Those actions get a response. I've posted several times, just in the last couple of pages that the Yankee thread is a Dead Zone, so I don't understand your comment Sherlock. So I should take it that it's OK to mock me, but if I call you out, you go all snowflake on me? Lmao.
moron

You got in a tiff because I simply did a thumbs up on a reaction on someone (anyone) bringing political crap on an unrelated thread last week and you call me a snowflake?

And what does that got to do with what was talked about the Yankees and thread size? Now your just making excuses lol.

Whatever, Lets Go Mets, I'm pretty sure we can agree on that.

I think ALL of us agreed with the insult based on the random political statements you threw into the middle of a baseball discussion. Like it or not- you caught a break a moderator didn’t give a timeout on it.

The Mets fans are mostly Jets fans yet they call NE Patriots cheaters. Too funny.

Wrong and a random assertion tonight. Worry about your Yanks getting killed by the Rays tonight.
Wrong how? Jet fans cry more then Mets fans which is excessive beyond belief. Your own announcer admits the Mets cheated. You are saying you are smarter baseball wise the Keith??

The Mets announcers never stated or implied that the Mets cheated. Cheating requires intent, and they did not opine on that. They did say that Conforto had extended his elbow into the strike zone, and should have been called out. Their complaint was with the fact that the call could not be overturned on replay.

Even if Conforto did make a split second decision to cheat, there is no comparison with the institutional cheating practiced by the Patriots.

Keith Hernandez did on Dan Patrick radio

Conforto choked again with a runner at third and less than two outs. He’s lost at the plate right now. I’ll take it, however.

What i'd give to have Terry Collins back.... that guy loved to manage baseball and lived for his players.

This new manager doesn't have a fraction of that passion
I hated Collins yet I’d take him over Calloway or Rojas in a heartbeat

And the biggest abusers of steroids played for the Yankees. Clemmons, Jason G., Pettite, etc. I am sure in your outrage you wish to renounce the championships those teams won since you are so anti roid I applaud you for your courage and we can both agree that those teams should not be recognized as champions for cheating.

Notice Bus is always on the rag whenever the Yankees are going bad? After the 1st loss, one Mets fan, one, made a borderline comment in the Dead Zone, and he ragged him. Now at 3-4, again, he's bleeding, too funny. What's that about fans going to other teams threads?
