OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

An infield single and a botched attempted on a questionable double away from a perfect game. DAMN!!!

Just when you think you have seen the best of deGrom- he hands you a beer.
I think I heard he is the first pitcher to K 50 in his first 4 starts of a season.
This game was a masterpiece

The long ball has made the game nearly unwatchable. If you want more excitement in the game, hit & run is a great way to generate excitement and help a struggling offense.

One problem I find with baseball is tradition overrules everything. If you can't adapt or adjust, you will continue to fail.
Ricky Henderson may have been the most exciting player and game disruptor I have ever seen and it wasn’t because of the HR. Would love to see a player like him come up again.
mans to your point, I bet most fans under the age of 25 couldn’t tell you the difference between a hit and run vs a run and hit

Wasn't he on a pitch count the first couple of games. Even a pitch count can't stop him from setting records.
You are going to see more opposing managers resting starters on the day he pitches.

So- he has pitched 29 innings has given up 1 earned run, 13 hits 3 walks and 50 K’s
And somehow he has lost a game and had a ND
The legend of deGrom just continues.
mall kidding aside- 3 walks...that is nuts

You can make the argument that the Mets would have been better off trading for Arenado than Lindor; provided they could keep Gimenz. I think the offense between Arenado and Lindor would be a wash and a left side of Arenado and Gimenz is superior to Davis and Lindor.
Very good point. I much rather would have preferred Arenado at the corner than Lindor - who looks awful. How can he just have a handful of RBI’s with Nimmo hitting ahead of him.

It’s very early but $341 million for Lindor is looking kind of silly right now. .204 with 3 RBI in 14 games.
I would have preferred Mets wait and see whether Lindor can handle the stress of NY and take the risk of him becoming a free agent. How many choices does he really have ? And if he went elsewhere there’s a surplus of Shortstops available - Story, Correa etc. I expect Seager to remain with Dodgers.

A thumbnail sketch of deGrom's four starts:

1) Opening day (delayed) 4/5 against Phils. 6 innings, 0 runs, 3 hits, 2 BB, 7 K. 2-3 at plate with an RBI. Pulled after 6 innings and 77 pitches, much to the dismay of everyone except the Phils. Left game with 2-0 lead, but wound up with ND as Mets lost 5-3. Turning point was an error by the 3B. Not Davis - Guillorme, who had come in for defense!

2) 4/10 against Marlins. 8 innings, 95 pitches, 1 run (HR), 5 hits, 0 BB, 14 K. 1-2 at plate. Removed for PH in bottom of eighth with Mets down 1-0. Diaz then gave up two in the top of the ninth to complete the 3-0 loss.

3) 4/17 in the Denver chill. 6 innings (in a 7 inning game), 99 pitches, 3 runs, 0 earned, 3 hits, 1 BB, 14K. 1-2 at plate with a run scored. Removed in the 7th and final inning for a PH, as the Mets went on to a comeback win for which he got the decision. Had his only bad inning of the season that day. A McNeil error got him in trouble but he was unable to pitch out of it.

4) Last night's gem. 9 innings, 109 pitches, 0 runs, 2 hits (one of which could have been an error), 0 BB, 15 K. 2-4 at plate with 2 runs scored and an RBI.

Holy crap- this thread is becoming a Rutgers game thread and we are 4 minutes into the game.
All these baseball fans stressing so much about a player of Lindor’s background after 15 games.
guys like him and even Conforto- (at their age) you can write down a number and over the next 5 years they will end up right about there. Maybe one year that is an outliner down and one that is an outliner up. But you will see Lindor in the .275ish 30 HR area by end of year. Conforto will most likely be around that same number as well.
I would also bet that Davis doesn’t end up having 3 errors every two games either.

And meanwhile Matz is 4-0 and pitching like a stud for Toronto. Lol. Typical Mets story. Lol
Can’t look back. And if he goes 15 wins and a sub 3.00 era this year- the first guy that doesn’t act like they would have game him away for free- gets called out.
Speaking of which- our neighbors to the northwest- imagine their staff if you had Lynn, Gray and Happ
Even though Gray has been out most of this year. He has kicked ass since leaving the Bronx

I would have driven Matz to Toronto Let’s see where he winds up at end of year because he had had good stretches before.

Straight garbage
2 hop throw from just behind where second baseman plays

Leaves 2 men on in first after horrendous play in top of first that lead to unearned run.

Why would you have a shift on for the pitcher? This analytic crap is getting out of control. Washington stole a run because of this BS crap.

The. Mets defense is really bad. If that doesn’t improve they are not going anywhere this year. The starting pitching has saved them thus far but if the hitting and defense doesn’t get better it will be another long year.

You just can’t play Smith in the OF, and Davis at 3rd in the same game...two of the worst fielders
in the league.

Where do they get these high school pitchers from? Tarpley gave up 2 walks, a hit, and a HBP in four batters throwing absolute garbage. How is he in the majors?

The Mets are having a bad day:Bieber just passed deGrom for strikeouts, getting 4 in a row to total 52.He'll likely be at 60 or beyond by game's end.By the end of Monday's games,de Grom may be in 4th place behind Cole and Burnes as well as Bieber.

You do realize this Bieber, Cole, etc. will have pitched in 5 games while deGrom has only appeared in 4.

Why do we always fill out the back end of our bullpen with guys who were dumped by other teams? Why do we have a catcher who despite being behind the plate constantly apparently can't tell a ball from a strike. 3-1 count with 2 men on and McCann swings at what would have been ball four twice. Last chance to get back i the game gone because then Tarpley came in.
