OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

Not sure if this has been mentioned in the thread but with the reorganization of the Minor Leagues (and the Toronto AAA team becoming the Trenton Thunder this season) there are more than a few close by options to check out future Mets:

AAA Trenton Thunder will play the Syracuse Mets

AA Somerset Patriots will play Binghamton Rumble Ponies

High A Jersey Shore BlueClaws will play the Brooklyn Cyclones
I checked the Somerset schedule and didn't look like Binghamton plays once there. I don't know how that was possible so maybe the schedule was out dated?

Strongly disagree with your opinion. When you have a struggling pitcher, make him work. Get the count to 2-0 / 3-1 so a lob fastball is expected and you can drive it etc.
Also right now Lindor is a struggling hitter that I certainly don’t have much confidence in along with the rest of the lineup. I’m sure this will change as the season progresses and weather gets warmer etc but a struggling hitter swinging at the first pitch in a critical moment of the game when Kimbrel has been wild was not the smartest thing to do.
When a pitcher is struggling first pitch may be best pitch to hit as he is trying to get ahead in count. Also, if hitter is struggling you don’t want him to get passive.

The problem with many of us fans, we still see baseball as the game we grew up with. The leadoff hitter is that guy that just gets on base- no power needed. And he should be speedy and a SB guy. The number 2 guy is a guy that makes contact0 goes the other way, works the count...Get as many looks at pitches as possible for the number 3 guy sitting in the batter box.
That is no longer what we have. 2 is the new 3 and that guy is no longer taking pitches, he is not working counts and he is not looking to move a guy over by hitting behind him.
Lindor is a slugger. He will usually hit in the 270-280 area, he will K but he most likely goes 30+ HR. And his way out of a slump is by swinging. Not looking at hittable pitches.

Hitting at 3-1 count or 2-0 count is more advantageous imho especially with bases loaded.

Conforto getting hammered by D-bags
like me , but Lindor outside of single vs Rockies has been just as bad. Outside of McNeil’s 2 big hits he also has been putrid. hopefully playing 5/6 games in a row will help these guys. Pitching has been fantastic with the exception of Peterson’s first inning vs Phillies along with the Villar misplay inning for Luchesi and walkers 5th last night .
Even with offensive struggles I like the Mets chances to win division more than I did at the beginning of the year.

Has to be as that was one of the reasons for the restructuring of the Minors...keep everyone closer to the parent club and shorter road trips.

They are also in the same reorganized division, AA-Northeast, so one would think you play everyone in your own division at least once.

I just checked again. Mets aren't playing them at all home or away! Makes no sense. Maybe because of Covid they kept the teams as close as possible.

Yeah, but they are in the same division.

And Binghamton goes as far as Richmond (which is pretty far) and as close as Reading for games.

Weird.

Potential inning ending double play up 2-1 Davis error leads to all of this garbage

up 2-0
Second and third Conforto weak whimpy lame grounder to end inning

What is the Mets record with Davis in the lineup and without this year?

One positive from last night is Lindor's 3 hit night. If they can put this game behind them and Joey Luccs pitches well, they have a shot at a .500 road trip in two tough places to play. Win tonight and let Jake rake against the Nats.

Was the worst defensive performance and worst lack of effort I have seen in my life last night.
I was worried about the D in the pre season. Peterson should have been out of the inning with a 1 run lead. I know JD has a bat that can help us but he is killing us in the field. You cannot start imho Davis and Dom in the same game. Villar has a good glove and at least brings speed to the team. Let him play third and give Dom the majority of time in LF. Davis can be a pinch hitter and get the odd start at 3rd or in left. Davis is a dh at best and I like the guy. We just cannot afford to keep him in the field.

Agreed with everything but I would start Guillorme at 3B.

Guillorme in, Davis out...

But don’t worry, Sandy Rojas said Davis will play this weekend.

Walk marisnek to leadoff inning
Walk pitcher trying to bunt on 4 pitches
2 out ball off pitcher that rolls too far away
Now down 3-0 💩💩💩💩💩

Pete 💣

Conforto 1 inch from HR
3-2
