On the Yankees broadcast they were talking about hitting being a league-wide problem. Someone mentioned that the league-wide batting average was currently .238....the lowest its ever been. And that something needed to be done to help the hitters.
Hmmm are you saying launch angles, ignoring strike outs and not being to hit the other way against the shift isn't an issue??? Phew that's good news! 😂
F helping the hitters! This nonsense about moving the mound or banning the shift is bullshit. Play the game without the nerds telling you numbers win games. Tell Brian Cashman first!

I get if you are up in a situation where it calls for power but we see the shift put against a lead off hiring in a 2 run game and the f-big guy isn’t smart enough to understand he just needs to get on base because he can’t hit a lead off 2 run HR.

I have to agree with you. Cash had a winning formula for years. Left handed power, good starting pitching and a deep pen. Why he ever deviated from that is beyond me.

He also just always had good ball players.,Jeter, Bernie guys like Broshius O’Neill, Knoblauch etc
Those guys just sprayed the ball all over, behind the runners when needed deep when needed.
go to our 86 team as well. Same thing

I hate the shift!!!!! It takes the bat out of the hands of players who grew up hitting a certain way. Imagine Mantle trying to learn to go the other way or any other of the greats relearning that skill at the major league level. It's ignorant to suggest it can just be done. I hate the 7 inning DH and the extra inning rule of starting with a man on 2nd base. The 1st team that builds a roster full of small ball players throughout their starting lineup, sprinkled with one or two HR hitters will be the next team that wins multiple WS in a 3 -5 year time frame. Bunt runners over, hit and run, productive outs that move runners over, are all forgotten skills. Throw in the shift, the game sucks. How come baseball can't mandate position players must be in certain spots in the infield/ In football, don't you HAVE TO HAVE 5 men on the line? Imagine what craziness would happen if football didn't have just that "little" rule? We could call it Rugby!!!!

You realize that the shift has been used for over half a century...And now that is has been a major way of the game- a hitter has to start thinking about it starting in highschool. Instead of the game talking about moving pitchers back, maybe guys that have to hit against them and the shift need to learn how to do so.
If you go back into the pre 2000's- baseball was full of guys that would have done very well against these shifts. But now, kids are just learning launch and exit V and not learning how to hit- it may have already pushed our next Tony Gwynn out of baseball.

Yes, I'm fully aware of the shift being around, but NEVER to the extent it is now, not even close. Me personally, if I have to suffer through watching HR hitters K - 3 out of every four times, then it might as well be from them swinging from their heels than trying to become a Punch and Judy hitter. Actually, since Owners feel the HR is the driving force behind attendance, I'm surprised they haven't pushed for the elimination of the shift totally.

I’m sure Ted Williams and other greats did well against the shift. Other great hitters hit to all fields. What’s next? Ban curve balls and sliders? Throw all fast balls so that these sluggers can be able to hit the ball they way they want to?

So you want to ban 4 wide and go back to the two back, two wide, one tight end formations so that we don’t have 400 yard games every week? Or seven footers banned from shooting threes, or better yet, only allowed to play only inside the paint?

It’s funny- to me, there is never anything more exciting than watching guys like Mookie and Reyes running out a triple.
HOT TAKE: Mets should’ve kept Reyes instead of Wright. He was more built for OLD Citi Field and wouldn’t have had to move fences in like they did for DWright.

The shit of it is that they had to move them in for just about everyone. As for David- I am going to say his back hurt him more than the fences did and it was a problem well before we all found out about it.
I love Citi Field but whoever first designed that field was an idiot. We saw some bad baseball when that new stadium went up. During those years- Beltran and the others had dramatic drops as well. I think our last year at Shea we had just over 170 HR and dropped to the 90's low 100's in those first few Citi years.
And even with David's drop and injury, when he was on the field, he still ended up being pretty good. I would still rather have him over Reyes. But I don't think it was the field that was the real issue with him

So wrong on so many levels. Just start with the fact David was a class act on and off the field and 100% represented the Mets that way his entire career. Reyes resented David, and dogged it sometimes and had to be put in his place by Terry on more than one occasion.

Wow, you guys don't agree with me, I'm so pissed, too forkin funny. So yea, use Ted Williams as the yard stick, and of course he could handle the shift. I'm sure Rod Carew would also. What does that do to the over all quality of today's game and the way it's over used?

Talk about going hysterical Nancy!!! Do they require 5 men on the line in football or not? Who said anything about wideouts or 7 footers in basketball. Stay on the rails buddy, lol. So do you like all the changes made in the name of the pandemic? If so, I'm betting your in the minority.

As long as you got sluggers trying to pull every single pitch into the bleachers with an exit velo of 110 mph, why not use the shift? That’s smart managing.

You talking about banning the shift is like people complaining about the Chuck and Duck and that your no playing football if you don’t have a fullback back in the 90s... or people complaining about 7 footers shooting 3s today.

Every sport evolves...

BTW, 7 innings suck...
Extra inning rules suck...
Rob Manfred suck...

Chili shouldn't fall before Rojas and Sandy. Sandy is trying to relive the Moneyball era. Sandy loves guys with high OBP but ignores the batting average. What good is it when you have a ton of guys on base but can't get the timely hit? What's the Mets batting average with running in scoring position? Rojas has to stop being everyone's friend and start holding guys accountable.

Sometimes you would think these guys have never played the game. Alonso gets brushed back on an 0-2. How do you not know that the next pitch is gonna be an attempt to get you fishing at some junk out of the strike zone. Of course they do just that and he flails at a pitch that was never in the strike zone. All we can do is hope somebody gets a hold of one for a solo dinger. That's about all we've got folks. String some hits together? Work a pitcher? Forget it.

I’m at game. Lindor just got boo’d and rightfully so. He looks awful. He better turn it on soon. Put me in the quite concerned column for him.

I am old fashion but I prefer a high batting avg guy to a guy who walks alot. With two outs and a runner on second that walk may not matter. if the high avg. guy gets a hit you scored a run.

Rojas needs to bench Lindor or bat him 7th. He’s useless right now. I’d rather see Peterson taking hacks than Lindor swinging like a little leaguer.

Amazing, we hold the best hitting team in baseball to two runs with our 5th starter and make Garret Richards look like JR Richard.

These bats better get going. What was supposed to be the strength of the team it looks bleak.

Pen looks a lot better than we though so that's the positive.

So you've already stated just learn to go the other way, at the MLB level. Someone else stated Ted Williams could. Would you really want to have watched Willie Mays, Orlando Cepeda, Willie Mc Covey and Willie Stargell play poke it the other way? Sure Pete Rose and Clemente could all day, but it's a different game than it was in the 40's- early 70's with 'Closers" becoming a main feature. Back then, you'd be lucky if each team had a guy throwing in the 90's, and most finished games so you saw the same pitcher all 4 at bats. Today every team has multiple starters throws mid 90's and bullpen guys that throw 95+. Complete games, don't make me laugh. Your lucky to face the same guy more than twice. Try working the pitch the other way in todays game. Football? You have running backs today bigger and stronger than linemen from the era of the great Giants, Colts and Packers days. I believe your the one that doesn't understand sports.
