3 serious points:

1. It's a shame we can;t be talking about Lindor's HR.

2. Why was Lindor bunting in the 9th inning?

3. Don't sleep on Mazieka. He's a decent hitter. Saw him 2 years ago in Trenton. Can hit.

The only people caught up about the rat/raccoon story are the fans and media. Some shit stays in the locker room, and it's not for public consumption. What can't some fans and the media respect that? Now you're going to have fans go crazy with rumors, and the media are going to battle one another for a Pulitzer Prize for investigative journalism just to get to the bottom of the story. In the end, who really gives a f*ck?

1. We can. Let's do.

2. Excellent question. One of the journalists in the post game interview should have asked that, instead of continually probing about the altercation. It was obvious Lindor was not going to talk about it, and the rat-raccoon nonsense was his way of saying he was not going to talk about it. Once that was clear, they should have moved on to your very relevant question. Bad job by the press IMO.

3. We know this about Mazeika - the Mets had to choose being rostering Mazeika or Sanchez, and they chose Mazeika.

While the rat-raccoon story is silly, the underlying issue is not. Lindor does not like being crowded in an overshifted infield, which limits his range and athleticism.
This is why I think the shift is counterproductive to some with his skills. I think it hurt the defense more than helps it.

Left-handed batting catchers are priceless.

Could the incident that took place in the tunnel be more about Lindor and/or McNeil expressing displeasure with this over-the-top analytics on every play? They seem uneasy deciding who takes charge of routine plays. It takes away from their natural ability and instincts to play the game.

Between Donnie and now the rat and the raccoon its been a crazy year with our team already. I know they decided they wanted to give them something but I'd rather they had not. I would have rather Lindor and all the others just have said we're all good it was nothing and we handled it in house and thats it. And when pressed just state that I'm here to talk about the game. Any questions about the game? Shit happens and they don't owe it to the overbearing media to share all family business.

It would not have mattered. The media was going to ask them over and over until they were satisfied. The media want juice stories because they believe that sells more than anything else. The media likes controversy and would not mind dividing a locker room to achieve this.

This is a case where the cover up makes the story more interesting than the incident. Agree that some stuff is best kept in the locker room, but Lindors silly story stoked interest. Coupled with NY media that loves a dumpster fire, and the result is expected.

Trying to make a serious evaluation of a baseball team after the first month of the season is pure folly. We‘ll see what things look like in June. I would say a positive to take is that the Mets are a game over .500 despite being inept on offense. Maybe last night’s dust up can have a beneficial effect.

When we were in the car and on the way to the hospital for the birth of our second son my Mom called us to ask again what names we were thinking of. My Wife and I weren’t 100% in agreement about names so we just stopped talking about it. But not my Mom. She kept asking and asking even up to the point while my Wife was in labor on the way to the hospital. So when she called to ask my Wife gave her two crazy, wacky names for a boy or a girl. At that point my Mom realized (after a polite “oh”) my Wife just told her (while having a contraction) in a passive aggressive way to STFU.

Basically she told her it was going to be a rat or a raccoon. 😉

Reading David Wright’s memoir. Very good read. As a Rangers fan I loved the story he told about a former coach sailing into the team the very next day after one of their own players took a pitch off his head. No nasty letter was written. coach just told them to protect each other.

Not for nothing but all of the more minor moves the Mets made this year are doing everything expected and more.
Loup, May, Walker, Villar, Pillar - these are the type of moves that the big boys make. Just wish they had picked up a big RH power bat off the bench

Tommy Hunter to serve as opener tonight, despite pitching two innings yesterday. Lucchesi to follow I assume.

It’s interesting that a lot of people assume our hitting will improve (and is probably will), but they also assume that our top starters will continue to be as good as they have been (this, to me, is more doubtful).
That's the glass half full side of the fan base. The glass half empty side says hitters will continue to struggle and starters will tank.

Interesting statement just made by Nationals' play by play man,Bob Carpenter:

"Is there anyone in baseball with more mound presence than Max Scherzer?"

Thats why I said you say early on I'm here to talk about the game and anything else stays in house. Do that and they'll soon stop asking. At least once you make it abundantly clear. They might be able to fine you for not making yourself available to the media but they can't for refusing to answer certain questions.

What would you expect the Nationals guy to say when the guy is striking out 14 and has already had a HOF career? You can't take offense to that. Jake is our guy and on top of the game but as far as career- he is still chasing Max and it isn't like Max is dropping all that much either.

When will the Mets figure out the shift is leading to more excuse me hits from opposing team than taking them away.
