Cleveland and Seattle have worst BAs and CLE is 0.5 out of first and SEA is 2.5 out of first. And their pitching is not close to Mets. Pitching matters and so does gutting out wins.
Right now- Mets have to make sure to stay in it near the top of the NL East. No one else is playing great either.
McNeil, Lindor, Smith, Conforto are not going to be this bad all year. Not even close.
the pitching may drop slightly as there may be no way to stay this good either...but that drop should be much less than the gain in offense.
what I do like this year though...we are missing two starters in the field and it doesn’t feel like we are just filling holes with AA players. Same with the pitching. We are missing two huge starters and our top RP. That alone would cripple most teams.

Cue the glass is empty naysayers.
I am not sure many teams would be able to hang in with not having two starters like Noah and Carasco- on about 1/2 of major league teams- that would be a strong 1-2 punch. Get them back- and have our hitting even get to middle of the pack, and this is the typr of team that would be built for a big playoff run.

The Diamondbacks today are conducting a poll of their viewers as to who is the greatest Mets' pitcher since Seaver, listing Gooden,Franco,Leiter, and deGrom.

Hate to say it but put him on the 10 day IL to ensure he does not aggravate the injury. It’s a marathon - not a sprint.
Have to be extremely cautious and careful with your franchise. Hope everything is ok with Jacob but I would have preferred Mets have shut him down for awhile. It’s a marathon and your franchise.
Heyman tweeted Mets are concerned.
Fingers crossed once again.

The Mets do an excellent job of finding bums like Barnes who are no MLB caliber. Somehow they find a way into games when they shouldn't be on the roster. Rojas loves making the game closer than it has to be. Throw Alderson in for signing these types of players thinking he outsmarting other teams.

If Jacob freaking deGrom can figure out how to beat the shift, how come these Professional Launch Angle Goofs in all of baseball can’t and all they do is to cry to have it banned????

Here’s hoping to a NOTHING SERIOUS or a 10 DAY IL VISIT for deGrom:

I know that baseball has a lot of unwritten rules, but where does it say that a pitcher is not allowed to catch a pop up hit right towards him? Why is it his job to point at the sky, in the general direction of the ball, and stay out of the way?

A pet peeve

Well the D'Backs made the Mets look like the '27 Yankees offensively. Take the off day and pray Jake is not going on the DL. I think if the team did not have to use an opener Saturday and so much BP on Friday, they could have held Jake out to the better weather expected on Tuesday. It will be interesting to see how we do against Harvey on Wednesday.

The Dark Knight scheduled to pitch against the Mets on Wednesday.

Matt Harvey was traded by the Mets to the Reds on May 8, 2018 - almost exactly three years to the day. Do you know how many current Mets (on 25 man active roster) were his teammates at that time?

The answer is pretty shocking, at least to me. It is FOUR. DeGrom, Familia, Gsellman, and Conforto. That's it.

That is a bit of a trick question because there are three Mets currently on the IL (Lugo, Nimmo, and Syndergaard) who were his teammates then. Plus Dom Smith was his teammate for part of 2017, but was in AAA at the time of the trade.

Still, that seems like a lot of roster churn in three years.

EDIT: Actually, there were FIVE current Mets on the roster when Harvey was traded. Tomas Nido was up as backup catcher, same as now. When Devin Mesoraco arrived from the Reds in exchange for Harvey, Nido went back down.

Before we worry about Harvey, we have to get a hit on Tuesday. The O's starter is coming off a no no.

I had an interesting discussion with someone over analytics taking over the game. He said those analytic experts had bullied their way into controlling the game. He said baseball is a game of skills in which a person is rewarded for being a selected few who can play the game at a high level. He said the Lindor/McNeil incident is directly related to analytics micro-managing the game and showing those who were once excluded from the game now control it. Analytics has these guys playing in areas of the field that is not natural or conducive to making routine plays. I did agree with him that analytics has taken some of the fun out of the game. I said baseball used to be a game where guys showed off their athletic abilities/skills, and the manager had to be several steps ahead of the other team if they were going to win. Now, analytics has covered every angle, and that's no fun. That's like two computers play chess which has diminished some aspects of the game.

I believe analytics has a place at the table in baseball these days, but it shouldn't control every event that takes place during a game. I believe a good manager should be able to incorporate analytics into his decisions but maintain the ability to have a feel for the game. For example, analytics may say your pitcher should have the advantage over the opposing team, but an astute manager could see his pitcher doesn't have today and pull him from the game before it gets ugly.

That's a false narrative repeated by people are hate analytics and refuse to evolve their thinking.

Nobody who values analytics says "this is the only way to do things and the analytics must be followed absolutely at all times."

It's always been a combination.

Are you saying I'm promoting a false narrative or the guy with who I have the conversation the other day?

Does Sandy Alderson knows this?

Yeah, it’s going to be DefCom 1 for some here for the next few days...

Thanks BVW!!!

If the Mets win a WS with Edwin Diaz as their dominant closer, then it's a good trade. Period. Regardless of what Kelenic goes on to do. Even if he's a first ballot Hall of Famer.

That's what it will take. A World Series championship. Nothing less will suffice.
Will never happen with Sandy Alderson in charge of the lineup cards.
