Good win today. Hitting is still terrible. I can't believe the number of times they take pitches down the middle and swing at pitches outside the strike zone. Please stop trying to hit pitches in the dirt. These are not nasty pitches.

If you suck that bad you don't belong in the majors. Never throw towards the head. It was either a purpose pitch that got away or he has not enough control. Either way he can end a career without consequences.
Pitches get away it happens. Just like hitters sometimes lose control of the bat and it goes flying.

Maybe I’m being nit picky here. But how long did it took Sandy Rojas to waltz himself out to home plate as Pillar’s nose looked like a faucet of blood? Then looked like an arseling flapping that towel as Pillar staggers by him towards the duggout.

How about that trainer who probably gets 6 figures. Even I can put on gloves quicker for an emergency... He looked like E. Scissorhands out there.

Even the Braves announcers had more concern with Pillar than Rojas did 🤷🏻‍♂️

Armstrong likely to be shoulder surgery which will keep him out the rest of the year. That means another top 5 prospect of ours that will be out for the year and that has barely played in 2 years.

First and foremost best wishes to Pillar on a speedy recovery. Let's hope he returns at the same level. Second, why not hit Villar 1st? He has speed and can make things happen on the base paths. It would also lengthen the lineup a little bit moving Lindor, Pete and Dom down a spot. 5-8 will still be ugly until we get some guys back. JD starts rehab assignment tonight. This lineup is so bad right now it almost makes me wish Cano were available.

I still do not wish Cano was available. We have many players who can hit slow rollers to 2nd base and they make a fraction of what Cano does.
Pillar is one tough dude. If anyone is coming back quickly from this, it’s him.

I get it but Cano did not perform terribly last year and I would rather have him hitting than any of these reserves currently with the team.

Look at the pitch sequence before Pillar being hit in the face. The Braves catcher called for two straight pitches to be thrown up in the strike zone to get Pillar to chase. Both pitches were in the dirt. Too many organizations are in love with guys who throw 100 mph. Very little is invested in developing guys until they reach the MLB level.

Yeah but the Mets bench has been hitting better than their starters: Pillar, Villar, Nido, Guillorme, even Fargas.

I know its not popular but I would not mind having a few more Tommy John or Randy Jones type pitchers on the staff. They knew how to pitch, pitch to soft contact and have batters pound balls into the dirt. The obsession with true outcomes means pitchers never learn to pitch, just to throw.

How about Cabrera who hit Harper and Didi back to back. Both missed games. Pillar sounds like he will be out awhile yet both pitchers allowed to continue pitching and neither were fined.

It funny you mentioned Tommy John. It seems guys who have the surgery come back throwing harder, but realize it's time to learn how to pitch.

Kinda like Stroman and Walker right now.

Pitcher that hit Pillar shouldn’t be fined or suspended. He had no control. You don’t hit someone intentionally with bases loaded.

You have to be fair- if not for the trade itself and the insane amount of money he makes - he had a very respectable year at the plate last year. I would take that in a heart beat right now.

Stroman fits that bill perfectly. And let's be honest- even though he throws it 101 and has a 92 changeup- deGrom can flat out "pitch" with the best of them. Peterson and Walker arent flame throwers either.

Problem is, his 2020 performance was aided by banned substances.

And so were his Yankee performances...so, there is that. I know that Yankee Amigo's on here will say it only happened when he was with the Met's but...lol Anyway- regardless, Cano's issue with Met's fans, except for the PED is the salary and who we gave up. If we had only given up Dunn and taken Cano's salary in order to get Diaz...then it would only be money and most fans would be pretty much ok with it. Cano carried this team for a few weeks last year.

I struggle with pulled hamstrings at this point in the season. I've pulled mine a couple of times but it was always due to not being in great shape (weekend warrior).

Tovar up to replace Pillar.

C Deivy Grullon DFA's on the 40 to make room.
They put Pillar on the 10 day IL rather than the 60 day, which is a good sign, I guess maybe?

Throughout all the 40 man roster upheaval, Daniel Zamora just keeps on keeping on.

My son tweaked his training for pro day and pulled it on his first attempt at the 40...So, you never really know when it may get you

Mets acquire Cameron Maybin for cash.

Hildenberger claimed by the Giants.

Walker MRI clean but still might miss a start.

The sad thing is that right now, I think that's their strongest lineup.
IIRC was not Nido a minor league batting champ? Who knows, maybe with regular PT he can prove he can hit at this level. It appears McCann got his contract and has decided to take a year off.
