That seems to be the mantra. But:

Villar: .225
Pillar: .250
Peraza: .219
Mazieka: .125
Nido: .265

The reason the Mets are over .500 is the pitching. It's an odd year in baseball, with hitting numbers down, so I'm not sure what normal is. But the Mets aren't hitting much (23d in baseball OPS), and there doesn't seem to be a breaking ball in the dirt that they won't swing at. The Mets's bench is, well, fine I guess. But the pitching is leading the way--3d best ERA in baseball. Let's not get confused about what we're seeing.

Now, is this a different team healthy? Sure. How much. We'll see.
Most of the teams avgs are like this. Wish it wasn’t but until everyone stops with the launch angles...

I saw one of the worst innings you can imagine, from a fan standpoint. Exhibit A where we are today. Forget which game but pitcher walked the bases loaded and struck out the side. Seemed to be 3-2 on everyone. 1/2 inning took about 40 minutes and not a ball put in play.

Nope. Mets are in the bottom half of the league and MLB in batting average, whcih is to say that most team's averages are better.
Technically you’re right as they’re 17th out of 30 teams, just below average. Not exactly Bottom 10 or Bottom 5 though.

Pillar looked like Rocky Balboa:

I really like Pillar and hope he comes back at the same level. I don't think David Wright was ever the same after his beaning. Some other guys who were never the same after being hit in the face iirc were Dickie Thon and Ellis Valentine.

Yes, bottom half, just like I said. Not like most teams; worse than most teams. Their OPS is even worse. It's bottom 10. They're a below-average hitting team right now, and the bench is hitting just as badly, even a bit worse.

I don't buy the "bench" argument. It doesn't stand up to even mild scrutiny. It's been pitching, pitching, pitching.

I'm not saying that this is the team for the year. It's too early. But right now they aren't hitting much, and neither is their bench.

Its a team game and you need to hit and field besides pitch. Bench guys Nido and Villar provided the 3 of the 4 runs needed to win last night. Bench guy Lee made a great play to rob the Braves of an extra base hit. Without contributions from the bench we lose 3-1 last night, so while the pitching has been very good, the bench guys are contributing and making a difference. Team game. The bench guys are doing just enough to keep us in 1st with all the injuries.

Freeman's homerun should have never happened. The ump blew the check-swing third strike. The next pitch was a home run. 🤬 🤬 🤬 Maybe, it's 2-1 instead. 😁

The umpiring on balls and strikes has been terrible across the league this year.

Mets were so concerned about Diaz being unavailable tonight, that they got themselves a spare. Andy Martino is reporting that RHP Yennsy Diaz has been called up. Yennsy is one of the pitchers obtained from Toronto in the Matz trade.

No word yet on who is going down. Would not be surprised if it's Taijuan Walker to IL. Him skipping one start may not be the worst idea in the world.

All they need now is to add a Gomez to the roster and I can recite one of my favorite lines from Scarface when a Diaz blows a save. (Hopefully not to often)

Pillar quickly becoming my favorite Met
“My face will heal, but my heart’s broken right now because this team is hurting right now,” Pillar said before bringing out the lineup card against the Braves. “I think at the end of my career, I hit .240, .250, whatever it is, I think if people talk about me as a guy that was reliable, was available and was tough as hell, that’s more than enough for me to ride off another sunset with.”

Cameron Maybin has arrived in Atlanta and is in the lineup hitting third. Being a Mets fan is so cool.

DeGrom is making a rehab start in St. Lucie tomorrow, so he won't be starting for the Mets until next week at the earliest.

MLB avg is 238, Mets is 233, unlike the Mariners hitting 199.

Players today don’t care about contact, unfortunately.

Walker to IL as expected. Maybin takes his roster spot. Yennsy Diaz is in Atlanta but on taxi squad and inactive, which makes absolutely no sense to me, since the team returns to NYC right after tonight's game.

So you're trying to make my point? Hitting is way down all over the league, and yet the Mets still found a way to be in the bottom half in batting average and bottome 10 on OPS. And their bench is worse. They are not hitting. The bench isnt either. It's the pitching, where the Mets are top 3 in ERA. I can see the massive difference between top 3 and bottom 10 and bottom half. I'm sure you can too.

Nido hot. Benched

I’m trying to be more positive but Lee is an embarrassment!

let’s go Mets 😎

Being 17th is really not the bottom half as the mid-point is 15/16. You are just are being dickish.

Yeah, he’s acting like the Mets are batting .126 and will never get a base hit. It’s not like the Mets are batting 233 while the league average is 280. But whatever lol.

BTW, Villar just hit a homer. But he sucks and is a disgrace.

Lee is in over his head, but it's not his fault. Meanwhile, Charlie Morton can't last past 5 innings because everyone is crushing his pitches looks like a Cy Young award candidate. Only the Mets.

I think with the way things are pitching-wise, the Mets might have sacrificed tonight's game. It will allow them to reset the staff going into Miami.

So it looks like the Cohen paid $341 million in addition to $22.3 million this year for a lighter hitting and a poor man’s Rey Ordonez.

Would be nice for Lindor to be on the right side of .200 at some point this season 🤦‍♂️
