OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

It's early, but no doubt, the best path to the post season will be winning the NL East. The NL West is the best division in ALL of baseball and should get 3 teams in. Time will tell, plus the Mets having played between 6 or 7 games less than those teams hurts the math at the moment.

Who is the oldest living Met who started his career with them?

The condition eliminates Craig,Thomas,Mays,et al.

I assume that Fargas goes on the 10 day IL to make room on the MLB roster.

McKinney is a stopgap, no more no less. Lefty corner OF with some pop. Won't hit for average, but who does nowadays. Has no experience in CF, but then McCann had no experience at 1B before Monday. So we'll see.

Got him for the cost of a lottery ticket. Not a $1 lottery ticket, but a 17 year old Venezulan pitcher. Most lottery tickets do not pay off. If this one does for the Brewers, I'm sure we'll be reminded of it again, and again, and again.
Well that's just what the team needs. A stopgap. The injured OF's will be coming back. Just need someone to more capably hold down the fort than Maybin and Lee have. Not light the world on fire but at least get the occasional hit.

McKinney will hit .200 or below and has HR power. He’s never made it big time in the majors because he is quite limited. Think he started career with Yankees.

Wonder if Dom Smith is banged up? I know he hasn't been hitting great, but under the circumstances how do you bench him, especially against a righthander?

This nerd group is doubling down on trying to show how smart they really are by running out a sh*tty lineup. This is to show everyone the team is crap without their brains.

There's literally no one else left to play. Sandy did create some depth for the team but it's been washed away two fold. Hard to blame them for the mess we're in right now. Lindor aside and that's on him.

Even a hurt Dom is better than a rental player. Any minor bump gets you a stay on the 60 day IL or at least a spot on the bench for a day or two before you go on the 10 day IL.

That's easy to say now. What if he further injures himself playing hurt, and goes on the 10 or 60 day IL? Then we will have a cadre of screaming fans saying it was stupid to play him.

Calling it right now. Cameron Maybin gets off the schneid tonight with a long HR. And when I say long, I mean 430+ feet.

If you can find a book who takes prop bets on Maybin homering tonight, jump on it with both feet.*

* Sorry, no refunds.

I've never seen a team experience large numbers of injuries from what appear to be minor situations when they occurred. Either the players are not training properly (soft tissue-Conforto & Nimmo), or the medical staff is questionable in first treating Alonso and Davis' bruises. I've experienced several of the same injuries and never been down as long as some of these guys. I think part of the problem is that the medical staff, under management guidance, is being overly cautious. It appears playing it safe has only made things worse. Anyway, fans are already crying about players missing games for a boo-boo on the knee.

A reasonable theory, but...

The slide should never have been necessary. It was on Nido's HR. The umps blew the call initially, and then corrected it.

That's so Mets.
Only a met could get injured getting thrown out at home on a home run. Actually surprised he doesn’t have a compound fracture. That will probably show up when he comes back in a couple weeks.
Seriously wondering if anyone on this team really wants to play. This can’t be real.

I have had similar thoughts. The number of injuries is concerning, especially minor ones. On one of the broadcasts thought I heard the Phillies had a number of players on IL. Saw that Harper went on last night.

For the Mets, did the training and medical staff change with the change of ownership?

he’ll trip over first base and lapse into a coma too.

Would you believe I only saw a couple things from last night's game and one was Dom's slide - my immediate thought was "He probably got hurt". I mean 😩

While the injuries on the Mets are overwhelming, injuries across the league is scary. I have 4 fantasy teams that allow 4 players on IL...in all four, I am trying to carry 6-8 injured as it happens to be a number of top players out. This is both with pitching and hitting.

Will be in Arizona while Mets are in town May 31-June 2. Unfortunately, they have deGrom slated to start on May 30 in Atlanta (seems a long way out from his last start).
Anyway, which seats are best for perhaps getting a close up of some Mets. Box B row 5, next to dugout or Box D, row 2 over the dugout-tickets over Mets dugout right in front of first base:

I'd go Box D row 2. I had similar seats at Citi a few times and watching everyone coming in and out of the dugout was cool. That Box B you might be boxed out from seeing much because of the angle.

When this first news about Callaway came out I couldn't blame the Mets. I had no issues of them missing this. You can read my earlier posts. Today I need to read if the Mets overlooked it.
What happened? practice what you preach please. """Too funny that my stalker can dish it but can't take it. It's annoying isn't it? Go back to your Mets thread and I'll stay over on this one""".PS. It's not stalking when I come to read in my Mets thread, and your sorry ass is reposting when you suggested what you did above.😁

Did I follow your post?? I responded to @tico brown post. What is your issue??
You told me to stay in my Mets thread, and you would do the same and stay in yours that's my issue. Well, really not an issue, but I figured I'd call you out on statements you make with no thought behind them. Did I miss quote you? I'll allow you to post wherever you want,👌

I remembered that Callaway had issues in Cleveland which
1: Looks like Cleveland covered up his shenanigans before the Mets hired him,
2: If potential new bosses can easily find info on either of us getting parking tickets in 1997 or if we did anything on Callaway’s aledged level, I’m sure the Mets (and Angels) and their resources can find out through the grapevine that Callaway had some issues here and there.

Hell, it looks like Alex Cora and Carlos Beltran got fired for way less...
