deGrom is unreal!
Had to chk it out. 0.62 era. 93K's in 58 innings. I'm not sure which is more impressive.

Only 8 walks allowed. 4 earned runs in 9 starts.

My goodness.

And given it's early June, I'm on the side of taking him out of games a little early, rather then pushing pitch counts. Especially when your up in the standings.

Just looking at some Diaz stats.

3.09 ERA. Pretty Meh, and I'd say not that good really.

BUT

10 saves and just 1 blown save.

AND, probably more importantly.

Zero HR's allowed thus far(no whammies). This after allowing 2 last year. So 2 HR's allowed in the last 48 innings. Of course he allowed a brutal 15 HR's in 58 innings in 2019.

Figure he has earned Met's fans trust in the midterm, but like any player, but maybe moreso closer's, will need to show he can hold up when the pressure builds late in the season, and fingers crossed, in the post season.

Off to see the future Mets tonight in Lakewood. Picked up a 3 seat social distance pod, along the 1b line for $18 each. Lakewood with a walk off double in the 9th to win it after trailing 4-0 and being no-hit into the 7th, 5-4. I'm thinking there isn't a closer at Brooklyn.

Diaz had the bad Philly game which jacked up the ERA. Jacob said he was tired, so now I understand . Wanted at least one out in the 8th. Bullpen has blown enough Jacob games last 3 years.

Thought I heard Lindor was on a 7 game hit streak entering last night and hitting .400 over that stretch.

So 2 more hits in 5 ab's last night, keeps that streak going and keeps that ba and that .400 level.

There was no way he was going to hit sub .200 for the entirety of his contract, or even this season, still wondering how good can he be this year and beyond. Looking at his career stats I'm surprised to see he was a 32+ HR hitting .275ish ba type player in his best years with Cleveland.

Just wondering, how good is he in the field?

That's the problem with Tatis. I think that he leads the majors in errors for any position.
I think in 2023 or 2024 they'll move him to left field. The Padres have another young stud shortstop in Double A right now, C.J. Abrams, who is a better SS and a excellent on base guy with great speed. They'll plug him into the lead off spot and by moving Tatis to the OF cuts down his risk of injury.

Tatis has another problem too- he has Judgitis...

Err, does this mean you think Lindor is OK in the field?

Whats that?
If it's a bad thing he's only 22, plenty of time for correction. Judge is 29. His case would be diagnosed as terminal.
What is the longest stretch of games played without the IL for Tatis?80 at most? Maybe???

I would say so. He earned mine, fwiw. But you got some here who will be pissed that he’s not Mariano Gossage.

A relief pitchers era is almost meaningless. Because they pitch so few innings compared to starters one bad inning can blow up their era.

I think it is fair to note that they can be skewed by a bad inning, especially in this case with Diaz having had a bad inning relatively early in the season, but I would definitely not say the stat is almost meaningless.

For relief pitcher, particularly closers, it is. More important are blown saves, inherited runners scored, etc.

Inherited runners is important,(but maybe less so for closers as they most often start an inning) as is blown saves, as is ERA.

You can certainly look at Diaz's career ERA and quickly figure out in what season he was, to put it kindly, not good.

Now was his 2020 better then his 2018? Despite the better ERA I'd say that's a pretty clear no, but that was a much shorter sample size, and it doesn't make the stat meaningless.

We don’t need a DH with our pitchers putting up these RBIs😎

I’ll take a split vs the Padres, one of the better teams in MLB. They keep their 3.5 game lead in the East. Bench Mob holds down the fort while some of the FAs are slowly coming back one way or another. Stroman pitches another gem, although Alonso should get some blame for not scooping a scoopable throw, and wtf was that throw all about?

Anyway, Hopefully this is a good sign for Los Mets.

Nice comeback in this series to get the last 2. Especially given that the Braves won their series vs. the Dodgers. A result I hadn't counted on. Now as we move on to Baltimore the Braves travel to play the Philthies. Dont know who to root for there.

Phillies play Braves, Yankees then head out west for Dodgers and giants

Braves , Phillies Marlins Boston St. Louis

Villar DH Tuesday ?
McCann or Nido Wednesday ?

off Monday and Thursday
Friday night DeGrom 33,000 in the building should be a playoff atmosphere vs Tatis and the Padres

I think that West coast swing is gonna put a dent in Philly so I will root for them over the Braves. Besides at the end of the day as the defending NL East champs I still think of the Braves as the team we'll have to beat. Especially in our head to head matchups of which their will be plenty before the month of June is over.

Wow, tell me again what fanbase is bitching about their team again? The Mets are doing it with mirrors, and Rojas HAS to start getting some love.

If Villar is healthy enough to play the field let Alonso DH and strengthen the D by playing Dom at first.
