OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

Have the results improved or gotten worst? Nope, it's the same. It's all about perception. Last year we compared Peterson to Wacha and Porcello. This year Peterson is compared to deGrom, Stroman, and Walker.

They've gotten worse which I said would happen unless he improved. It has nothing to do with perception based on who our other SPs are.

Thankfully the Yanks and O's are in the same division 😂
The Rays have some weird numbers. Leads MLB in strike outs. Near the bottom in batting average yet 3rd in runs scored and 4th in run differential
The O's have come to life, and Mets worst pitcher was out there. AL East and NL West have at least 3 very strong teams. It would be very Mets like to split 4 with the Padres and then lose to the O's.

Misplay McCann at first
Pillar catches that in left
Guess they wanted another righty in lineup Nido/mcann vs LHP

Peterson CAN NOT pitch when Mets have 3 double headers in 1 week. He will single handedly ruin the bullpen
Every hit by the O's have been rocket shots. Are you sure Pillar would have caught that ball in left? Villar probably needs a new glove on that hot shot at third. 🤬

I think the trade deadline most active divisions will be the NL East and West.
Beyond that every team in the majors have major flaws.

I argued with @yesrutgers01 over Peterson all off-season about how Peterson's numbers last year were smoke and mirrors and how he was due for some hard regression. This isn't a surprise.

On top of that, the lineup seems deflated before the start of the game when Peterson pitches. Also, why does it seem the Mets struggle against pitchers who stink? I'm talking any era north of 4.90+ have owned the Mets.

It’s funny- I was just about to come on and give some props but had forgotten who I debated with.
Looks like you were right on this one...👍

I thought Nimmo would be out like a week and going to be like 6 weeks.

According to Mets.com, Carrasco is due to return late June or early July. However, since he has not begun a rehab assignment, it's doubtful he'll be back before the All Star break.
It's going to take him at least a month to ramp up and get hasn't even started throwing again. All star break at minimum which I even doubt so that's why I said August.

Thanks, I was worried that I might not get to see the nearly impossible task of a pitcher throwing 100 pitches in the first inning, but it looks like Peterson will be around for a while longer trying to accomplish that feat.

Basically, our AAAA team lost to a bad Major League team.
it happens.
Lindor, Smith, McCann, Alonso are now hitting, so, I am not going to stress one game.

Peterson gets one more start. If he is ineffective, I doubt he gets a second.

Not a whole lot of replacement options. Thomas Szapucki is the most obvious, as he is pitching well at Syracuse. But he has only thrown 22 innings at the AAA level, and I don't think the Mets want to rush him. Similarly, Tyler Megill was pitching well at AA and just got promoted to AAA. A decent prospect but probably not ready. Franklyn Kilome would be an option but is on the minor league IL. Not sure what's going on with Sean Reid-Phillips, who hasn't been pitching at all, despite the fact he is not on the IL.

That leaves Jerad Eickhoff, a veteran whose ceiling is probably five innings, two or three runs. Maybe the Mets will take that. Beats two innings, four runs. My guess is that he's next man up.

That's basically it. The other two starters, Jesus Reyes and Akeem Bostick, aren't pitching well enough to be in the conversation. One would think that Corey Oswalt would be a consideration, but Syracuse has been using him solely in relief.

I was there. Baty signed a ball for my son. We were sitting front row in front of the Cyclones bull pen. When we blew the game, my son put his head in his hands. A Cyclones pitcher (Andrew Edwards) came over to give him a fist bump and to console him. Awesome gesture.
How cool is that!!!!!

I see the bad penny is back in this thread, trying to bait me, too friggin funny, LFGM.

Tough day today for Szapucki. 3.2 innings, 5 runs.

On a happier note, Guillorme played nine innings for the first time in his rehab assignment. Mets policy for rehabbing position players is that before you are activated, you must go nine innings back to back. So if all goes well for him tomorrow, he should be activated by the weekend as scheduled.

Almora played five innings which was the plan for him.

The Met injuries this year are the strangest I have ever seen. Almost every one of them progressed nicely until rehab and then almost immediately shut down...something is seriously wrong somewhere. Just never seen anything like this.

I get the impression that the lead doctor has no sports background. Everything is overly cautious as if sports injuries are new to the staff and the training staff follows without questioning a thing. Just sad. 😭

or the opposite...still, no sports history but don't understand they are working with world class athletes that tax their bodies harder that other humans...including those that do not feel baseball players have to do much physically. lol

Yeah the SNY box had it outside but the official StatCast box had it as a strike clipping the plate.

What I'm starting to notice are teams hitting away from the shift as a way to defeat it. San Diego did it, and now Baltimore is executing it well too.
