Getting as well as you could have asked for from Eickhoff. Actually better after he gutted his way thru that 1st inning. How about score a run or two and put your foot on this team's neck.
We need to score and not waste his effort

I think a guy like deGrom is just contagious. Guys are afraid to give up more runs in a game then he has all year lol

Bad fundamental baseball right there. On a ball that gets pretty far away you're not alert enough to get to 3rd and then you run on a ball right in front of you.

While I am not in Peraza's head, my guess is that after he blundered by not advancing on the short wild pitch, he was mentally on tilt. He was intent on making up for his error one way or another.

Villar left the game with an injury as well. Just as we're getting some players back a new wave of injuries.

It is funny that is only 4th starter level pitching on this team. Was he just a 1 year signing?
Lucchesi was acquired in trade as mentioned. He is arbitration eligible in 2022. Whether the Mets will make him a tender offer, knowing that he likely won't be pitching in 2022, is a question for another day.

The Mets have two more years of control after that, if they choose to use them.

Forgot it was a trade. This injury is a really bad break for the guy and makes for some tough decisions. He is almost certain to miss next year. No reason.to make a tensor offer as it isn’t likely he will make much at arbitration with this injury, but what do we do for 2023. We got both very good and very bad with him. I really don’t know what he is…
Just a tough break all around

I was hoping we would grove this stretch and run away with the division. Now I would be happy to play .500 ball and get to the break with no more injuries.

Back to deGrom- has any pitcher had a ERA lower than their WHIP in this many games/innings? .50 ERA .51 WHIP
He is having a career year and the team is finally scoring runs for him. Gooden in 85 was the closest I have seen from a Met pitcher to this kind of dominance. I am too young to remember Seaver in 69.

Met pitcher???? How about All Time -
the best pitching seasons of all time: 2000 Pedro Martínez (291 ERA+), or 1994 Greg Maddux (271), or 1968 Bob Gibson (258) or 1913 Walter Johnson (259). And then think of the fact that 2021 deGrom’s ERA+ is 777. His year is not just better than all of the storied ones listed above. It’s better several times over.

I was thinking all time but was too lazy to do the research. Thanks for searching those guys. I just hope you and I did not jinx Jake with these posts.

@cicero grimes is not old enough to remember Seaver in 1969, but you are old enough to remember Walter Johnson in 1913? [roll]

Actually- I was still to young to appreciate the 68 Gibson or 69 Seaver performances too. Very much remember Pedro Gooden Maddox though. Funny thing is- I put Maddox at the top of the list as he just made hitter look stupid for so long barely hitting 90 on his fast ball.
Doc had the uear I was able to watch every start

Roster moves announced today:

1) Mazeika up. Drury optioned to Syracuse. Didn't think Mets could option him but they obviously could. This move strongly suggests that Nido's HBP yesterday is problematic, although not enough to disable him at this time.

2) Tarpley returned to Syracuse. He was 27th man yesterday. No surprise there.

3) Robert Stock, the Cub pitcher who started against the Mets last week, was claimed on waivers and optioned to Syracuse.

NOW, the transactions which have NOT been announced - yet...

1) Conforto not yet activated. Maybe the condition of the field has prompted them to wait a day?

2) Villar not placed on IL, which is good, although he is not in the lineup tonight.
