Even then, still only .10 behind Villar with the same OBP...I would bet that with an additional 100 AB's he would be well above Villar. I also like Villar better late for the reasons I gave. Our best pure hitter has not hit all season. Even before he got hurt did he look like the Jeff McNeill of the past few years. Let him hit his way up the lineup.
I am not arguing Villar vs. McNeil. Villar at 3B and McNeil at 2B They both need to play. I only had Perazza in there because Villar is hurt.Even then, still only .10 behind Villar with the same OBP...I would bet that with an additional 100 AB's he would be well above Villar. This is just your perception, not reality. The pitching staff has many players outperforming their average year: deGrom, Stroman, Walker, Castro, Loup, etc. Even Diaz is average to a bit better than his average year. The offense has players, mostly backups, playing around their average years, even McCann. Nido is better than he ordinarility is.I know players have seasons where they underperform from their career numbers but this is the first time I can recall an entire team underperforming to this extent. . . . .
We all know he was talking offense…This is just your perception, not reality. Your beef is with certain offensive starters, including Lindor, McNeil, Alonso, Conforto, and Smith. But some have limited playing time because of injuries, including Conforto, McNeil and, less so, Smith. Moreover, Alonso has a limited sample size, with one great year and a lot of struggling since then. If he doesn't learn how to handle breaking stuff, that will continue. On the other hand, Nimmo's numbers are good for him, he's just been injured. Conforto's down too, but he's been injured and has always been a hot or cold guy. JD Davis has just been injured, but he hit when he wasn't.
This is nowhere near an entire team underperforming. The O has some serious contributors underperforming, but many with limited time due to injuries. There's a reason that we're a winning team right now, though, and it's because many are overperforming.
That was a riotThis is too friggin funny!! NSFW
In retrospect, I agree. Still like Rojas less though.Girardi unimpressive and was a total asshat last night. Glad Mets passed.
Right. So you address something different from the "entire team." You pick just offense and exclude more than half the roster. But you go further. You also subdivide your partial list by including only certain offensive players and excluding others. You include players with significant injury time who haven't hit, like McNeil Conforto, and exclude other players with significant injury time who have hit, like Davis and Nimmo. You change the comparator by selecting only McCann's last two years and not the career numbers that the other guy was talking about. You ignore Nido altogether. And you just leave Alfonso's short sample size and worse numbers last year out of the discussion. You're less convincing than the first guy. This is nowhere close to an entire team underperforming their career numbers. We all know he was talking offense…
Davis and Nimmo are the only 2 starters and they have been hurt all year.
McCann semi clise to career numbers but not up to his past 2 years. Every other start AND replacements- are below
Well- They did pay McCann based on his last 2 years so that counts. Alonso is pretty much on last year except for a significant power shortage.Right. This is basically a complete retreat from the other guy's position.. . .
Whole F-INg offense is down.pretty simple
. . .
You made me look but it is exactly what his position was. This is basically a complete retreat from the other guy's position.
But we can agree that the offense is down. But offense is down across baseball. But the Mets even more so. Almost the worst offense in the game right now.
Nope! I was wrong on that one.Almora gone I hope.
Well, they got 2 runs for him in the first. He has something to work with now.The best thing that could happen for this kid would be for the offense to step up and give him some early runs to work with. But we know how that idea typically goes.
So looking didn't help. You made me look but it is exactly what his position was.
Kind of like Leslie Nielsen looking for the gun to be used to kill the queenKid having moment of his life walking off mound in MLB debut to standing ovation gets interrupted by umpire at foul line to check for illegal substance
That statement is provably false. EVERY team has "organizational depth" guys who may not be good enough to hold down a regular MLB job, but are in the pool of potential call-ups when you need somebody to hold the fort for a week or two.Only the Mets recycle guys like Oswalt who don't belong in the majors.
Must everything have a response? lolThat statement is provably false. EVERY team has "organizational depth" guys who may not be good enough to hold down a regular MLB job, but are in the pool of potential call-ups when you need somebody to hold the fort for a week or two.
Plus, some guys figure it out over time. Chris Flexen seems to have done that. Maybe Oswalt will too.
