I don't want to spend the a top ten draft pick on a HS pitcher. Too risky. Either of the Vandy pitchers would be nice but I doubt either will be available.

One unique aspect of the MLB draft is that picks are non-negotiable. Can't trade up or down. Nor can you trade a pick for an established player.

I looked at four mocks and each had the Mets taking a different player, so who knows.

Since the HS kid isn’t named Gooden- I wouldn’t go that direction. If I couldn’t get either college pitcher, I go fo BPA. Regardless of position

Actually, I’d rather Pillar in CF and Nimmo in left. I realize Pillar’s obp is low but his obs is an ok 667. Dom Smith’s OBP is only .319 and he’s a terrible outfielder.
You know there's no DH right. What are we gonna move Dom to first since he's a far superior defender than Alonso?

I would love to step on the Phils this weekend. Phils are 13-23 on the road. Need to win this series and then get the makeup game on Monday. After that we get the Braves Yanks and Brew Crew going onto the break. If we struggle the surging Nats could catch us before the AS game. Next two weeks are critical.

This is the problem...we can't sit Dom even when he is in a slump. You can't sit Nimmo either when healthy. There is no DH and we are not benching Alonso. Pillar is such a great hustle hard nosed guy, good defender but let's face it...he does not make any pitcher study him too much before a game.
We are a few games in first place but I feel that while the guys like Pillar kept us from falling out of it, if we had the offense we need, we would be much more than 4 games up. I would rather win 7-3 than lose 2-0

Just saying

Don't we have a home series vs Pittsburgh tossed in there before the break also? Definitely a big 2 weeks coming up.

The mighty Dodgers, who haven't been so mighty of late were the latest no-hit victims last night. By 4 Cubs pitchers combined.
One of the local newscasts made a big deal bout the seventh no-hitter of the year. Maybe my knowledge of baseball history is off, but always thought a no-hitter was a thing when done by a single pitcher. Yeah, next to nobody pitches complete games anymore, but a 4 pitcher no hitter just does not seem like a no hitter. Need to go chase the kids off my lawn now. [roll]

A combined no hitter IS officially a no hitter.

However, earlier this year Madison Bumgartner pitched a 7 inning doubleheader game in which he gave up no hits. For some reason that does NOT officially count as a no hitter - even though it counts as a complete game shutout. Go figure.

The difference between a real corner outfielder and Dom is much greater than the difference between Alonso and Dom at first IMO. To me, Dom is the odd man out, but he will get plenty of playtime with all our injuries, his ability to backup the OF or 1B, pinch-hitting and DH when we are at American League parks. Having him in left along with Davis at 3rd (when he returns), is a nightmare on the left side.

I assure you that when we are an American League park next week that it will Alonso who DH's.

Looks like Nola vs. Walker in game 1 and Petersen vs. Moore game 2. With our luck we beat Nola and Moore with the above 7.00 era throws a two hit shut out. Rest McCann game 1 or 2? Give Lindor a game off if we win number 1,

You may get your wish.

Per Peter Gammons of The Athletic (paywall), there is no way that the Mets will allow deGrom to pitch in the ASG.
Curious, how would it work if he were selected to the team? Does he have the right to decide to pitch or can the team declare him out?

If there's a "bonus" involved in his contract, I'm sure the Mets would make good on that part. I'm thinking he accepts the selection, and puts the team 1st, attends for all the pageantry, and sits on the bench and cheers the NL on.

Missing the point. Smith is a better first baseman than Alonso. Smith is a worse LF than any other option we have. The defensive difference between Smith and Alonso at 1B is way less than the difference between Smith and another LF player (e.g., Nimmo). When you have both Alonso and Smith in the lineup, it makes sense to DH Alonso. You ah e both of their bats and it keeps Smith out of the outfield.

And you're missing the point that Smith is one of the better run producers on the team. And you want to sit him for defense. Not late innings, but at the start of games. When it's producing runs that has been the problem in recent weeks.

I’ll still take Nimmo when he returns with his .870 obs and better D over Smith and his .685 obs in LF and keep Pillar in CF.
