Needless to say a loss would be inexcusable after they just traded away their top 2 players, and our ace returned for the first time in ages.
Social media and our competitors fanbases would eat it up. Like the Mets made all this big deal about deGrom returning and then went out and lost to the lowly, last place and even more depleted Nats.

Asleep at the wheel
It’s August pennant race time vs a horrible team who has given up on this season
It happens but it annoying frustrating and nauseating infuriating sickening ect ect ect

Posts like this (and many others in this thread) call to mind the words of Tim McCarver, "In New York, you play 162 one-game seasons."

This should have been an easy. sweep. And it's like they thought they could just show up and win. And Buck is managing it that way also. Bringing in very back end of the bullpen guys as if it was 9-1 as opposed to 1-1. When just about everyone except Ottovino should be available. Like yeah we can just throw anybody out here against this team.

As for the Nats today on deGroms return- I don't think managers/players/GM's are looking at what our hitters did or the BP- they just saw deGrom look like deGrom. Max/Healthy Jake/Bassit/Waler/Carrasco is looking pretty scary right now.

Facts have no place here.
Mets should have steamrolled this team.
their pitcher had like an under 2 era...maybe he is good. but it is a flat day for the hitters- has nothing to do with deGrom which was as good as anyone could hope for. You bring in a guy that has been lights out and he has a bad inning. it happens

Someone posted his triple A numbers: 4.98 era and 0-5

All sarcasm aside (very sarcastic tonight), Mets rarely score more than a run or two when deGrom pitches. But giving up this many runs to a depleted Nats team?

Good call online
Why wasn’t Trevor Williams tonight’s long man with a short outing expected from DeGrom ???
That is a very fair and cogent question, and one which Buck will likely be asked in the post game presser.

It is possible that he was saving Williams to start one of the DH games against the Braves.

Meanwhile, our old friend, Paul Sewald is apparently tearing it up as a reliever at Seattle. Pitching in relief against the Yanks. Just whiffed Judge.

Mets were a huge road favorite. Carton & Roberts joked about there being value in betting on the nats tonight. How frickin prescient.

Hes doing pretty good on my fantasy team and was their closer for a bit. I guess he’s their 8th inning guy now.

One negative one positive to end night …
Alvarez ,Contreras , and Piazza have as many HR at C for the Mets this year as Nido , bunting Nido who is tying run just shows you he is a 215 hitting turd

Mets win tomorrow 9-2
