Pinch me, another amazing day of baseball. Plenty of rest for the back end of the bullpen, another great pitching performance and working the count leading to early exits for opposing pitchers. Tough series coming up with Philly as they are hot. Could be up 8 on the Braves and 11 on the Phils if things break right tonight. I'll take it.

Looking at the box score from today's Mariners game (beat Yankees again), I couldn't help but think about the guy who got away.

It took awhile, but he is now showing the world why the Mets acquired him in the first place. Hitting, speed, defense - the whole package. I'm not saying that the Mets will miss him THIS year. But with Nimmo's upcoming free agency, it sure would've been nice to have him ready to step in.

Yes, I do believe the Mets will miss Sam Haggerty.

Really? He was kind of unspectacular in the minors and not much at this level. I’m not seeing speed, power or BA…
Not sure why he would even be in anyone’s rear view mirror much less missing him…

maybe I’m missing something

So the Mets are not signing Nimmo?

What you are missing is my failed attempt at humor. I thought that the reader of my post would immediately think I was talking about that other guy who went from the Mets to the Mariners. His name escapes me at the moment.

No one has a sense of humor in here. I got it.

You got me my friend. Funny thing is, the post seemed very unlike you…

The next three weeks will decide the season. Braves, Phils twice, Yanks and Dodgers with only the Rockies, who can hit, as the only sub .500 club. We maintain the status quo over this stretch and its highly unlikely anyone catches us in September with mostly sub .500 teams on the schedule.

Phils came back against Alcantra late. He might be the best pitcher in the game. Went into the 8th with only 73 pitches after pitching into the 9th last time out. Throws 98 but pitches to contact to save the pitch count. Love the way he pitches.

No need to be a DB with your holier than thou post.
Sorry. I thought my response was self-deprecating if anything.

To your concern about Nimmo.

1) While anything's possible, I am quite certain Nimmo will not sign an extension prior to free agency, because that is not how Boras rolls.

2) Once Nimmo reaches free agency, I assume that the Mets will push hard to re-sign him, as the free agent market for CF's is otherwise weak, and they have no in-house replacement on the horizon.

3) Other than that, I have absolutely no clue.

I wonder if Mauricio gets moved to the outfield if Nimmo leaves.

We have 50 games left...looking at the upcoming schedule- 33-17 looks to be very realistic. maybe 30-20 at worst. That would have us between 102-105 wins.

If we can do at least the 30-20, can't see any way for the Braves to catch us.

Crossing fingers over the next 2 weeks- Phils/Braves/Yanks we could walk away and have it all but locked up or we could come away in a dog fight...Hoping for the former.

You do have to like our chances against Phils at home with Max/deGrom/Bassitt and a fully rested team...

Looking at Lindor this year- so glad that this kid is on the run he is on. He made some mistakes last year but it is very hard not to like him.

If I remember correctly- earlier this year, not sure if someone posted it here or I so it somewhere else- but they had him ranked something like the 11th best SS in MLB.

If you look at it currently- It is Turner, Lindor, Swanson (in that order) and then everyone else.

Phils drop the finale to the Fish. Lose another 1/2 game. Fish should have won last night as well. Fish can pitch.
