OT: Official 2022 NY Mets Season And Post Season Thread

I was at Shea - game 7 vs cardinals in NLCS when Chavez made that catch. I was sitting upper deck and the stadium was actually shaking. No joke.
I think it was 1985- maybe his rookie 84 season but a late season game against the Cubs. Doc was pitching a gem also with big hits- every damn pitch from the 5th inning on, stadium felt like it may come down.
I have been to at least 3 playoff and WS games each year the Yankees had their late 90’s run, besides that game Doc pitched and 06 L’Ville- nothing compared.
I would assume the 86 Mookie hit was there too but…
If Diaz comes out for a WS final save and those trumpets are playing- it may be something no stadium has ever seen. Even all the Mario Sandman entrances.
yankee fans are not as loud as we are in these moments.

The basic rule is that anyone who is on the 40 man roster or on the 60 day IL as of 8/31 11:59 PM ET is eligible. So Megill is eligible. He does not require an exception (although an exception protocol does exist).

I am sure that is why the Mets promoted Gore today instead of tomorrow. They may want him on the postseason roster as a pinch runner and defensive replacement.
Thanks. Do you think Gore brings more than Jankowski could in that role?

Gore is a base stealing specialist. Jankowski is a better overall player. Neither is a major league hitter.

I can definitely see Gore on the postseason roster, as teams traditionally shorten their pen due to the many off days.

Cripes- Nimmo has really become a player...

deGrom- 5/230...
even if he only has 3 years in him- most dominate pitcher outside of Koufax/Pedro/Gibson for a 5-7 year period. if we can get 2-3 more- he won't have career numbers but most likely a Koufax legacy
guy goes 7 with 3 hits and 1 run and you almost feel like it wasnt a top game for him.
One great play for sure and his reaction after was priceless. deGrom is amazing but I always hold my breath the next day. Uncle Stevie will do all he can to keep him. Has he been hurt of course, is he worth a 3 year risk,of course. Big game pitcher, no doubt.

No off/travel days in NLDS . Teams are going to need 4 , most likely 5 starters or destroy your bullpen with a bullpen game.

Not true. In both NLDS series (best of five) there is an off day between games two and three. That said, it is true that there will be fewer off days than in the past.

Here's what I think is the rationale:

1) Mets have soured on Vientos at 3B. They now view him as primarily 1B-DH. I know that fielding percentage is not the be all and end all, but Vientos' fielding percentage at 3B this year is .915, which is Godawful.

2) Vientos is not getting any time for the Mets at 1B. I think we can agree on that.

3) So... it's Ruf or Vientos - as it has been since August 3. That dynamic has not changed. And the Mets are not ready to give up on Ruf, who is under contract for next year. They just aren't.

4) Whomever you bring up isn't going to play anyway, and is just holding the seat warm until Guillorme returns. Whom do you prefer to have on your bench? Vientos to pinch hit a couple of times a week? Or Marrero as a defensive infield backup?

I'd still rather have Vientos. Maybe he would get a key pinch hit to win a game. Whereas Marrero's value is just to hold the fort in case somebody needs a day off.

For all the hand-wringing, Mets and Dodgers split the 4 game series at their stadium, and we split 2 close games again. One more to win the purported preview to the playoffs.
Yep- this playoff series is now going to a final game 7. This plays out almost exactly as it would in NLCS as the dodgers would have the home field advantage with 4 home games in the series.

It will be interesting to see how Medina performs down the stretch. In the little I have seen of him this year he has looked like he has the stuff to be a leverage reliever. Would love to see him perform well and give Buck another 7th inning option.

hopefully Uncle Steve just goes buckwild this offseason and signs off on retaining most of the upcoming FAs, but then signs Judge too. Good to be able to even think about this possibility after the Coupons.

The only remaining games after today that give me pause are the games with Miami. The Marlins can pitch and the way our offense has been lately that could be a recipe for disaster.

I cant see any way that the Met's are NOT the highest bidder for deGrom.
What that is, who knows.

If, the Met's are the highest bidder, one would have to ask how he could turn it down. Yeah, sure, he could sign with LA or someone like that who is in the playoffs every year but...I am sure he sees that this Met's team will most likely be in the playoffs for the remainder of his career as well. And then, there really is legacy.
He is going to get his money- so if that is out of the way, do you go the route of a gun slinger or play your entire career in one place?

More than that give me pause. Certainly Milwaukee can trouble us with their starting pitching and we often struggle in that park anyway. Besides that some of the road stops can be like falling into a trap. The Yankees found that out in Oakland where we also have to go. When you don't score a lot many games will be tight because you're not always going to be able to shut out even the worst of teams.

DFA Ruf on principle. Worse than feared and expectations were abysmal
And we traded JD for him who is hitting .268 with 4 homers since the trade. You would think we may have at least gotten Wilmer back for what we gave up.
