Interesting article on contingency plans for Braves series.

Options under consideration:
Moving the Friday game to afternoon.
Scheduling a split doubleheader on Sunday.
Scheduling an "if necessary" makeup game on Thursday October 6 (day before WC series).

Options NOT under consideration:
Moving the series out of Atlanta.
Scheduling a game this coming Thursday

Yeah but we just have to credit the Braves.
Not a good stat by any means, but a cherry picked one.

If you add the Pirates into that mix, then they are 5-6. Still not good, but not quite as horrible.

No one likes what has recently transpired, but you gotta be fair about it. Well I guess if you're the New York Post you don't gotta be, but you really oughta be.

I dont know if it's a cherry picked stat when it may well be the one that decides the division and 1st round bye. We remember the we just have to make it to September when the schedule tilts heavily in our favor takes. We all said it; because we all bought heavily on it.

It is cherry picked because the stat omits the results of games against another bad team (also at home) that took place within the timeframe that the record shown was accumulated.

As DW wrote, including the Pirates results (where the Mets over exceeded) still shows the Mets underperformed against that group, which may end up making a difference in the division winner as you wrote.

I feel certain Mets go through the motions and it reflects when you see their play. What I don't get is Buck continues to play them over others. Ruf is stealing opportunities from someone else. My daughter has the same BA as Ruf. Nido isn't setting the world on fire, but he's playing better than McCann. There is no way that they should be splitting time.

I understand keeping guys fresh and sharp, but the Mets are in a dog fight for the division and it makes a difference for playoff seeding. That's one less round and wear and tear on the team.
If your daughter has the same BA as Ruf, I would rather the Mets play your daughter. She can probably field better as well.

Based on the local forecasts I've seen here this morning it looks like the best opportunity to get the games in this weekend would be Friday afternoon or Sunday. Would they switch Friday to a day game and play a twinbill on Sunday? Who makes the call the Braves or MLB? I just heard someone float the idea of one game whenever they can this weekend and then a doubleheader on October 6th.

This would be a call from MLB.

My educated guess (more "guess" than "educated") is that as long as the Braves stay within their three day scheduled window from Friday to Sunday, they have autonomy., subject to network TV commitments.

For instance, under normal circumstances they would be free to move the Friday game to the afternoon, cancel Saturday, and play a split DH on Sunday. My guess is that that's Plan A, weather permitting.

However, since Saturday's game is a Fox game, they probably need MLB approval. Which I would think is a rubber stamp. Unless the forecasts are completely off, Saturday will be a washout.

Any decision to move a game outside that three day window would have to be made by MLB.

MLB, Mets, and Braves are all trying to figure it out. I would think MLB will make the final calls as a neutral 3rd party.

How this all plays out due to the storm is fascinating. MLB and Fox have their agenda, Mets have an agenda as do the Braves. The easiest thing to do would be to move the games now to a neutral site. Probably not the Braves first choice, but if the ATL loses power, the games could not be played even if the weather clears.

Playing thursday ……..Mets had extra day off Monday. Their rotation can pitch (Bassitt) with their normal days off. Don’t know how Braves set up. Most likely the starter would be going on a day shorter rest

That may well be the reason.

Expected rainfall totals for this area have now been lowered with the storm expected to take a more Eastern track and hug the coast. Rain Friday evening into early Saturday and only a 20% chance of rain on Sunday. I'm no Meteorologist. Not even on here so just relaying what a local weatherman just forecast. So what that means for the series I don't know. But based on what he said it sounds like Saturday night is possible.

Are the Mets going to not score again? Just wait and pray for an Alonso home run?

An Alonso home run would constitute scoring. We will take whatever we can get. Although the likelihood of three consecutive balks is slim.

1 hit in 3 feeble innings in a game you absolutely must have against an inferior team

The guts and fight they seemed to have earlier in the season has completely disappeared lately.
Hopefully it comes back this weekend in Atlanta

Marte is still wearing a splint also so not even sure he's close which sucks.

I don’t think there is a slower overall team than the Mets. I realize Marte is out but this team is horribly slow….Vogelbach, Alonso, Ruf, Nido/McCann, Guillorme…yikes.

Dumb post. Vogelbach and Ruf are role hitters (provided they are hitting, but we are talking about runnin). By nature, catchers are not fast, but a few exceptions exist. You are seriously going to pick on Alonso? And Guillorme is not that slow.

Mets fans being salty.

Imagine the bases loaded with Vogelbach, Alonso, and McCann. You need a HR to score

In terms of overall athleticism, Mets are average at best. Probably below average.

However, you don't need really good athletes to win. You need really good baseball players.

Why on earth was walker still in this game against the hottest batter on earth who already hit him hard twice tonight?!
