While I haven't conceded this game, I do plan to enjoy the wild card. Is there anyone in this thread who will not? I mean, it's not like the postseason is a routine occurrence for this franchise.

I will enjoy the wild card. (Game one will be same time as Nebraska game).
If you told me preseason we’d be the top wild card I’d have been thrilled. However if you told me we’d have a 10+ game lead and lose it…. Here we are.

Nido hitting for McCann. When the Mets passed on Realmuto to sign McCann, could anyone have predicted this?

Now that it’s over
DeGrom and scherzer can now rest until Friday and Saturday.
Really wanted to be at Nebraska game Friday without having to check my phone 1000 times for the score.

Well the bullpen has done its job. 4.1 innings, 1 run. Gave the offense a chance, but that chance has gotten very slim.

Poor managerial decisions caused us to get swept. Just needed to win one game and couldn’t. Bucks stays with pitchers in trouble too long and using Vientos and Alvarez at critical times and early in games is unbelievable. Tonight was the worst case, Vogelbach hits a homer and a single and gets replaced by a player who doesn’t own a major league hit and Vogelbach is unavailable for the rest of the game.

Okay slick. Tell me this could he have done any worse than Ruf did? Something tells me he would have hit more than zero home runs in 2 months.
But what about Ruf. He stinks. Who could've done worse? Well, McCann, he stinks too. You know who else could have done worse? Baty. Vientos. Alvarez. Would you put JD Davis in that group? Or were you a high-level thinker on that one, arguing that JD just needed time because he's hit in the past and so he's a good bet to hit again.

Here's the problem. The Mets are a top-heavy, salary-laden, organization. They have little depth. They spent years getting this way. Cohen wants to change it. He's only signing FAs who don't cost draft picks. He hopes he's put the right people in place to turn the system around and he's trying to give them the tools. But it will take time.

In the meantime, all the easy and obvious trades that you want done, and all the laser-like micromanaging of the advancement of prospects that only you can accomplish, won't happen or work. We don't have the prospects to make the good trades. The prospects that we want to keep aren't ready yet and, other than Alvarez, may not be all that good. These problems go away when we get prospects, lots and lots of 'em. And that takes time.

OK, not-so-slick?

Speaking of the wild card, it will be a letdown series for me.
Most importantly, I hope the team recovers mentally from this disaster.
Im unsure they will.

There are four wild card games on Friday. They will be scattered throughout the day and evening. I suspect the Mets will get prime time but do not know that.

Padres are 1 game ahead of Phillies for 5 seed - and opponent for Mets in wild card. If they end up tied , who holds tie breaker advantage? I hope Padres. I want no part of Phillies in wild card.

What a ****ing disgrace. Just win one goddamn game. ONE. With your top 3 on the mound. And you get swept.

But in realty…who couldn’t see this coming a month away if you’ve been a Met fan all your life?

The Phillies have the tiebreaker. They do have to play the Astros while the Padres get the Giants.

Brewers are still alive but I don't think they can get the five seed.

I agree, want no part of the Phils. They have Wheeler lined up for Game 1.

Carrasco and Walker will start tomorrow and Tuesday, and that could be the last we see of either of them in a Met uniform.

Ugh. Thanks. I was fearing that. Astros have nothing to play for. They clinched home field

Team could not and has not recovered from losing Marte. He’s too important to this lineup. Unfortunately I don’t know when he returns. I’m not expecting him in wild card round

They have three games against the Nats to regain their focus. I think they'll be fine by Friday.

As @Doctor Worm says above, the Phillies have the tiebreaker with the Padres. The Phillies are capable of screwing anything up and the Mets have had little difficulty with the Phillies this year. But of course Wheeler is always tough and Nola has had a good September.

I would add that they've got Nola going tomorrow night, which would line him up for Saturday.

Wheeler and Nola are as tough as a 1-2 combo as can be. Phillies have been peaking as of late which is scary.
Not that Darvish / Snell are chopped liver but I can see the stench of Wilpon rising again with Wheeler pitching a gem in game 1 of WC Round.
Please give me (us) the Padres !

Welp, no sense even watching this Nationals series. Virtually meaningless now. Tune back in on the weekend.

The final weekend line on the Mets "Big Three": 14.1 innings pitched, 11 earned runs allowed. That's an ERA of 6.91.

Needed just one of them to come up big. Just one.

Only thing that can take away the sting from this one would be to make a run to a title. Not gonna happen this year but Mr. Cohen we need one in the worst way.
