Not resting anybody tonight. I guess you really can't, not being mathematically eliminated. Hopefully Braves clinch tonight, and Buck can rest people on Tuesday and Wednesday without remorse.

See NOW would be a good time to get Alvarez some at bats in a meaningless game (they aren't winning the division)... makes no sense why we let him go 0-7 in the biggest series of the year

Would be shocked if Padres/Mets don’t get the prime time slot.

There’s too much star power between the two teams.
Only other choice would be Cards-Phil's with the Pujos stuff and Harper on the Phil's.

DeGrom vs Darvish
Scherzer vs Snell

Plus all the other big names in each teams lineup.

Prime time for every game of the series.

Tough weekend for the Mets. I don't follow this thread regularly but went through the comments as they melted down over the weekend. Interesting. Agree that the Alvarez call up was strange but I don't get the criticism of Buck. He has been pretty consistent in how he is managed all year with regard to platoons at several positions. If anyone was standing out, and had earned the job, he would have stuck with them. What is Vogelbach's average against lefties? Not good. We just don't have enough right-handed hitting depth and thus Marte's injury hurt us more than it should have. The question is whether he will be back for the playoffs.

I have felt like the Braves are the better team for awhile, yet I thought we would get one this weekend. They got key hits and beat our best pitchers when it counted. We have too many guys/position that just do not produce enough consistently at the plate. This next week or so will be important because they have a lot of big decisions to make in the off season. Braves are set up for another long run as a contender.
On SNY Baseball tonight even Terry Collins thought putting Alvarez in yesterday was a bad move. I think Omar Minaya agreed. But what do they know?

On Monday Night Football, they just announced the Wild Card game times: 1, 2, 4, and 8. We will see what gets slotted where.

In unrelated news, Pujols homered again! It wasn't long ago we wondered if maybe he could catch ARod. Then if maybe he could make it to 700. He is now at 703.

Who would have thought that the Cards would be the team that no one wants to play, and that Albert Pujols would be the reason?

Phillies lead Astros 1-0 top 6. Nola no-hitter through 5. UPDATE: Nola perfect through 6.

Who would Mets fans rather play? Padres or Phillies? Mets have owned the Phillies this season and struggle with Padres.

I only don’t want to play the Cards in St. Louis, although would be a cool spot to see a game.

Cards are below .500 on the road this season.

Prefer the Phillies.

As to @Doctor Worm 's post, while improbable, would you mind if the Braves lose the next two and the Mets win three in a row? Stranger things have happened.
Would not mind.

But part of me would have preferred that the Braves close it out tonight, enabling Buck to manage the final three games accordingly.

If Mets are still alive going into Wednesday, do you use (and potentially waste) deGrom? I wouldn't.

Fair point. But could they make Wednesday a bullpen game with Tylor Megill starting?

I’m worried about even taking 2 of 3 from the Nats. Down on the team right now and deservedly so after that royal goose egg in ATL.

Sure. Although I'd be inclined to start Peterson.
Good option too. I get your point about figuring out your rotation for the wild card games. But would rather have the opportunity for a bye going into the last game of the season than having to play the Phillies or the Padres and then have to go to the division series.

Braves game has gone final. Marlins win 4-0. Not sure how I feel about this.
It prolongs the agony. Sadly I would have preferred that Braves wrapped it up and we can rest and get ready for playoffs. Now we have regulars playing 2 games tomorrow.

Mets hanging by thin thread. Can the Marlins swept Atlanta and can Mets sweep Nats. Not having the tiebreaker gives us no room.

Brewers win in 10 and are still breathing, but probably only for another few minutes. Phillies lead 3-0 in 9th and are poised to close them out

Weather looks bad online the next 2 days out east. More rain-outs? 🤦‍♂️

And the Phils do close it out. A combined 3-0 two hitter. We now know who the six playoff teams are, but the seeding remains uncertain.

Padres -Giants still scoreless headed into the sixth.

I'm a Buffalo Bills fan. Once they were down like 35-3 in the 3rd quarter of a playoff game vs the then Houston Oilers before they relocated to Tennessee. As the largest comeback in NFL postseason began to unfold I can recall watching the game with disdain when they made the score 35-10. Like so what. And then they made it 35-17 and I was still angry thinking ho hum just window dressing to mask the ass kicking we've suffered. And it wasn't until they made it 35-24 with plenty of time left in the game that I really started to re-engage myself in the game. I Got hyped at that point. So I say that to say that I will not allow myself to engage in any thoughts of a possible miracle unless the Marlins were to win again tomorrow while the Mets win 2. And even with that I would only look on more eagerly while keeping things in perspective. Knowing that for one thing the Marlins have already said they are shutting Alcantara down from what would be his scheduled start on Wednesday in the finale.

That is indeed a concern. I think tomorrow could well be another washout. Should clear up in time for 4:00 Wednesday, I think.

Sets up a scenario where if the Braves continue to lose, Mets might play two on Wednesday, and an "if necessary" game on Thursday. If that happens, then you definitely pitch deGrom on Thursday, since you know it's win and in.

The more likely scenario of course is that the Braves win and the rainouts are not made up. Which I would not mind.
