Speaking of Alvarez he is now rated the #2 overall prospect in baseball per MLB Pipeline. He'll be #1 before year is out making my preseason prediction correct that he would become the #1 overall by most publications.

Can we release Lugo next? I'm tired of high-stress situations every time he enters the game.

Not gonna win many games when the 1, 3 and 4 hitters go 1/12. The bottom of the order is another sad story, but the top of the order has to produce too.

The top of the lineup has been more consistent, so it's not like it's an everyday event. The bottom of the line is a chronic problem. The other concern is Buck going to Shreve and Lugo often. Finally, management had enough and tossed Shreve in the trash. It should be time for Lugo too.

Lugo just shouldn't pitch back to back games. He's still an ok middle reliever but need to pull him out of the high leverage situations especially if he is pitching back to back.

How many straight games for Alonso without an RBI? I know he hasn't had one on this road trip. Having Davis and any of our catchers hitting back to back in the lineup is like playing with a handicap.

Pathetic. Of course someone will come along and say let's just win tomorrow and win the series. As if that's satisfying enough against one of the worst teams in MLB.
Let's just win tomorrow and win the series.

No that isn't satisfying, but what else is there to say? This isn't college football where to lose to the worst team is a humiliation. The worst team in baseball history won 25% of the time. Including some wins over some very good teams. It happens. It just better not happen too often.

Allow me to pose the following hypothetical: Which would you prefer?

A. Tonight's actual outcome.

B. Mets win 9-7, but Scherzer gets knocked out early and clearly isn't right.

I am honestly not sure. Taking the long view, I might prefer A.

The Mets are not releasing Lugo anytime soon.

What could happen is that he is demoted to a lesser role in the bullpen. But who replaces him? Hunter and Holderman, maybe?

I remember that in the past, Lugo had some kind of physical issue which mitigated against him going back to back. Not sure if that is still an issue.

Presuming Alvarez hits and defends decently at AAA, he needs to be our starting catcher by Labor Day.

McCann and Nido may be the worst combo of catchers ever assembled on a Major league team.

Horrible OBP /No RBI production / Can't hit / Eternal Rally killers

lol....our bullpen is not very good excluding Diaz.

Can't cut Lugo but he has not been the same for awhile and it's time to realize he's on the downturn of his career.

Besides some bullpen arms, we need a DH Productive hitter (Josh Bell or Andrew Bientendi)/ 2B and a catcher (hopefully Alvarez when rosters expand if not sooner).

Hope Ottavino is ok. Don't know why he didn't pitch today.

I may be old school, but I remember when the primary responsibility of the catcher was to handle the pitching staff. Granted, this was before pitch framing became a thing.

I do know this: If the veteran pitchers on the Mets staff are not comfortable pitching to Alvarez, he will not be the starting catcher until they are.

He's slumping......swinging at balls in the dirt etc......he needs protection in the lineup....he doesn't have it.

Team needs to pick up guys like Jose Uribe / Kelly Johnson (or more like Josh Bell / Andrew Bientendi) at deadline to put stiffs such as JD Davis / Dom Smith etc on bench...they're awful....non productive

Not old school thinking but you're not going to win in playoffs with zilch production from catcher / 2b (Guillorme) and DH. Scoring is necessary - something that's not happening too well as of late due to the above.

Regardless, Alvarez will be the starting C next year so the pitching staff will need to come grips with it unless Max or Jake want their own personal catcher I guess next year.

I'm not so much pissed that they lost as im at the way they lost. Looking overmatched against a rookie pitcher, terrible at-bats and woeful situational hitting. Unable to score a single run in a park that's known as a hitters paradise.. Vs a team that Gary Cohen mentioned as having a historically bad bullpen ERA.

Think Lugo will be OK.

What a play by Matzek tonight for the Braves:

"A" without a doubt. Who would want to face Scherzer twice in a 7 game series "IF" we got to a 7 game series? Even a 5 game if he started game #1 and came back to finish a game #5? deGrom if healthy puts either a 5 game or 7 game advantage Mets against anyone.

Did we lose McNeil?

Mets have to get to the playoffs first (which they will… hopefully) before worrying about who pitches when in a 7 game series.

Nido has made some nice throws recently but his hitting has become atrocious. Even with all of his flaws, IMO he’s better than McCann at the plate. What a terrible acquisition McCann has been…you almost pray that he strikes out so he doesn’t hit into a DP.

I thought I covered the "if" with a 5 game series, meaning "if" we make the playoffs, but I can see I should have been clearer. Of course need to get there first.
